Sexuality (accepting or not)

this is all i'm going to say about this.

coming from a bi-racial family, racism still exists and it still cuts as deep as it ever did. and black people aren't the only people who experience it. equality is far from here. my family still recieves a check every year as retributions for how the government destroyed our ways of life many years ago.

the slate is not blank and our starting lines for running the race are not side by side. and you have to be in a certain place to see it.

I dont agree with gay marriage, but in the end people are going to do what they want, and as long as I'm not involved in anyway, I have no problem with it. Make sense?

It does. I wish that more people would realize this. Gay marriage isn't going to have any sort of profound affect on your life. You're not suddenly going to see guys in speedos and feather boas walking around macking on each other. They're already there and most people don't realize it.

I wish more people had that view (like you. thanks for having it!) :goodvibes

I don't really know how to explain, but both races are equals. Just because some radical idiot needs to make comments, from both parties, about the other party doesn't mean they're not equal.

in your eyes, they are equal.
which is good.
but there are still alot people out there who believe that blacks rank below white people.

in society, they are not at ALL equal.

In society, they're not equal because of the radicals fueled by the pride of their race and their hatred of the other.
In my eyes, and in the laws eyes, they are equal. And unfortunately, all that matters is the law in our country.

No matter what I say, no one's going to understand it because I don't know how to word it. WE ARE ALL EQUAL, whether the law or whoever recognizes it. We are all born equal. Not necessarily in legal terms or whatever. I just hate that society is so warped that we have to hate on people because they're black/white/gay/straight.

And this post probably doesn't make sense, so this is the last I'm posting about this. Please stop jumping me over an opinion that I don't know how to word correctly.

i totaly understand what you are saying.
i'm not trying to 'jump' you at all.

i thought you were trying to say that all races are treated equal, the way they should be. which they obviously, and sadly, are not.

everyone IS equal.
but the way our society is, not everyone believe that :/

That made me smile.

Anyway, I'm totally accepting. I was raised to believe that people are equal in all ways, no matter what. I have gay friends, I have straight friends. We all get along. Sexuality doesn't change a thing about how a person's personality is. Equal rights for equal people. :goodvibes

I practically worship Freddie Mercury AND Elton John.

Needless to say i have really close friends who are gay/bi.

I'm totally cool with it now, i'm not exactly...keen on calling it marraige..but love is love...and i can't really argue with that.

:)

I am accepting of gay marriage.

You also have to understand that some people were raised like that. My grandparents, for instance, are from South Carolina and they were raised to dislike african americans and they don't accept gay marriage.

I don't understand how the whole race thing came into play on a sexuality board..

That's the way I see it kind of.
Like in the Bible it says that marriage is between a man&a woman. So I don't agree with changing that by having gay marriage. But like civil unions/partnerships in a court don't bother me that much. I just don't think it is right to be called marriage.
I know that's not what you technically meant Mouse, but that's what it made me thing of.

i think marriage is just as much a legal institution (if not more than) it is a religious one. when i am married, i have rights over my husband, and he has rights over me that are nothing but legalities that tie us together as one unit instead of two separate parties.

civil unions dont have all of those rights.

that is why i advocate for gay marriage. gay couples are not equal in the eyes of the law the way straight couples are. and thats not right.

I don't frequent this board often because I never really see anything I want to comment on, but this issue is close to me.

Gay people want to get married too. They don't want to have to settle for a civil union or domestic partnership. And that's what they're doing. Settling. If every straight couple was forced to get a civil union instead of a marriage, you can be sure that people would be upset about it. It's about equality, and civil unions will never, ever supply that.

And to whoever it was who said that the comment about gay pride parades reminded them about white people who don't understand black history month, bravo. These events are to recognize a group of people who have been discriminated against. A straight parade would be boring anyway, because it's the majority.

Well spoken, Shelby.

It's true, civil unions don't have the same rights as legal marriages.

Fairness is askew here, don'tcha think?

All I'm going to say is, as much as I wish everyone was equal, they are not. If you think they are, well, it's time to take off the blindfold.

This is directed towards me, and I'd suggest you READ everything posted.

My post was not directed to you, Sonya.

It's great that you think we're equal, but that's just not true in our society. Unfortunately, I don't think we'll ever let everyone be equal and live in peace.

Awww, its has taken alot of thinking and soul searching for me to have a clear view on this stuff. Its super hard IMO!

And even if there are 2 guys walking down the street in a speedo and a hot pink feather boa, that is their choice. I'm not going to condemn that. Yeah, it doesn't agree with my religious beliefs, but I'm not even going to get into that. Its too hard to write out on a message board. lol

That's the point I was trying to get across. We are all created equal no matter what. When the radicals in society get involved, crap like this happens.

Not everyone follows the bible, and the idea of marriage did exist before too. But I guess I was never brought up religious I was made to form my own opinions (religiously) :confused3 but I did have a friend who was brought up with Christian influence...and him telling me how he was disgusted at the fact that he was gay and he tried to convince himself he wasn't etc. then again like I said in a previous post it reminds me of what was said in Prop 8: The Musical, people pick and choose from the bible to suit them.

What if gays could marry, would it be hurting anyone? is it going to cause problems? because I can't see it causing that much trouble except to the people who are deadset against it...its those people's lives and if they want to get married it really is THEIR business not what some people who don't agree with it think.

I have better things to be hung up on than your sexuality. It really doesn't affect me = I really don't care.
xD
