I am trying to restyle revamp a small table into a beautiful vanity for a girls room.

I have some old inexpensive lace curtains that I can cut and staple at the top to give some pleating and use as a skirt on the table that would just look gorgeous in her room.

These are very sheer lace curtains.

I am not a great sewer or able to use a sewing machine to hem the skirt.

Can someone recommend an iron on tape I can use? Brand and name?

TIA:goodvibes

Go to Joann's and head to their notions isle. There is a product called Stitch Witchery that is fusible iron on tape. It comes on a roll in a package and is made by Dritz.

Yes, check out the sewing areas of Hobby Lobby or even Walmart.

There is "iron on hem tape" or as mentioned I used to know it by "Heat & bond" which comes on bolts similar to fabric. Its a good thing to have on hand for last minute craft/sewing stuff.

Are you covering the lace stapled top? How are you covering the top...with ribbon?
I would love to see the vanity because it sounds so pretty.

You may want to be very careful and test the lace with the iron first. You can melt lace quite easily. If you are able to iron it, you may want to use the coolest setting possible to fuse the curtains.

Good point about melting the lace.

Putting scrap fabric or towel over the lace would avoid that, however use old stuff because the goo from the heated glue would probably come through the lace.

Depending on the type of lace, if it's polyester you can sometimes cut it along the pattern of the design and it will not ravel. I did this for a vanity table once. I didn't staple it, but used a Velcro strip so I could remove it for washing. It held up well in the wash, but only washed it yearly.

also be sure to be careful about putting the fusible hem tape directly in contact with the iron. Since lace isnt a solid fabric, that stuff can and will stick to your iron and make it a big mess if you aren't careful. There are peel and stick hem tapes too that work well, and even more, if you are not concerned about it being stiff, you can simply use dabs of fabric glue to tack it into place.

If you want to cover the top where staples are you can use hot glue to cover it with ribbon or trim of some sort.

I am a seamstress so if you have any questions feel free to ask away anytime :)

You may just want to use a double sided tape. As previously mentioned, the fusible stuff might stick to your iron, look to messy with the sheerness of the lace. The tape might blend a little better if it's something you won't be washing.

Good Idea! Walmart is closer.

I really don't need to cover the top. It's not seen, the top of the table has an overhang so it is not seen, but I may use ribbon just to finish it off properly.

well now you have our curiosity peaked so you need to post before and after photos!

I'm way ahead of you. ;)

I used a white damp hanky to iron the curtain. Mommy taught me well. She just didn't teach me to sew. :rotfl: jokes on me.

ah! velcro, what a great invention.

Good point about it being removable to be washed and certainly easy to do. Thanks for the tip.

I put together two halloween costumes with stitch witchery, wonderful stuff right there. It was great. But it does take some getting use it. Pick up a few of the scrap pieces of fabric like you're using to practice on. I found running the iron over a washcloth or other non important material on high, it gets the glue off pretty good.

The damp hanky may not work to iron on the tape. The damp will create steam, you need heat to melt the tape.

If it helps the iron on stuff is 50% at Joanns.
