I am thinking about saving for a sewing embroidery machine.
Now I would like one that has the Disney designs.
With that being said I know I will be buying a Brother.
However there are several different models and the prices are not cheap.
I am a beginner at the embroidery but can sew.
I am not an advanced sewer either more like beginner to intermediate.
I don't want to buy a michine and then when I get more advance will have to buy another machine.
I would rather put out the money once in my life and be able to have a machine that I can add programs to.
The thought of saving and spending $10000 scares me.:scared1::scared1:
Anyone with an opinion on this please.

I have the lower level Brother machine that has the built in Disney designs. I think I am getting the hang of it. Hopefully I will be able to get some of the cards that your can get more designs with. I am hoping they make the card writer compatible with Apple some time so I can do my own designs on the computer. I like the Brother so far. I know a friend of my mom has a $5k Viking. I wish I could afford something like that.

Interested in responses here too.

I have a Kenmore machine, and bought a Kenmore serger second hand. Both work well enough for me. I would love to expand to an embroidery machine.
Are they easy to use? Kim - you keep talking about babysitting the machine while knitting - it's really that easy????

It is mostly easy. I had to get the hang of it and putting everything together correctly. I had one thing on wrong and kept breaking needles. Once I got that right, I only broke 1. I really wasn't able to get knitting done because I had to keep changing thread and I was watching it pretty closely. That reminds me, I need to get more sewing machine needles.

My Aunt has the $5K Viking and loves it. You can go to the web and download all sorts of designs. She found a photographer Mickey for me that will be put on my huge photo/messanger bag she got me for Christmas this year

I have a Husqvarna Viking Designer SE. I love it! With the software on my computer, I can turn clip art images into design files.

I have heard that Husquarna is one of the best makes.
I was told though that if I wanted to be able to do disney embridery then I would have to go with a Brother as they have the market cornered on the disney designs.
The Brother 900 (there's a letter or two after the 900 but I forget what they are) I can get for under a $1000.
However someone else told me that if I get that machine and want more software that this machine might not be able to handle it.
I would hate to spend money now on one machine only to have to turn around in a year or two and want a bigger better machine. :confused3
What do you think?

I don't have any experience with any embroidery machines other than the Vikings. I've had the Designer SE for about two years, at the time it was the top of the line and I traded in my Designer1. There is now a bigger and better machine, but this one still does everything I need it to do. As far as I know, Brother is the only one with Disney designs, but I don't know anything else about those machines. I know there have been discussions on the Dis craft boards, maybe post a question there to see if someone can advise you before you make a purchase.

I have a software package that enables me use clip art or scan an image and turn it into an embroidery design. I haven't tried with any Disney images but it does work pretty well. I'm not sure how much I've spent between the machine and the software, but it's probably close to 8k. It is an expensive hobby, but I have also turned it into a business.

I have a Brother Ult2002-D sewing and embroidery machine. I love it. I do have some older disney cards. The one thing that most people regret is getting a to small of a hoop to start with. The bottom line machines only do a 4x4 hoop. The next line of machines will do 5x7 and 4x4. These are the hoops I use most. The top of the lines will do even big.

If I can answer only question let me know.

Do they come with a hoop that will do bigger than a 5x7?
Will will also keep this in mind when making my purchase.
I will try to find the craft boards.
Thanks! :)

Yes, the biggest, newest machine will do a 8x12. A few of the middle machines will do 7x12 and 6x10. It all depends on what you want to spend. I have had my machine about 7 years and love it. It's biggest hoop is 6x10. I have looked at all the newest machines and brother is normally cheaper and is very user friendly. If you have any local dealers I would go and play with the machines. But if you want Disney it is Brother only.

O.K. well I am still just as confused now.
I thought and was told if I wanted to do Disney designs then I would have to buy a Brother.
Now you are saying there is another brand I can look at.
I have found out we are having a creative Craft show here on the last weekend of the month.
So I think I will go and see what I can learn.

I sure hope you don't wear those designs at Disney because they are illegal designs. The only real Disney designs are by Brother on the D-machine that take Brother Disney cards. If you get them from the internet they are very, very illegal. There is one card called Taste of Disney that can be used on all brother machine. Like I said if you want true legal Disney designs you have to buy Brother. Be very careful with illegal designs, Disney is watching.

Thank you for your input.
I had been told that if I wanted Disney designs I would have to purchase a Brother. Which is fine by me as I do not think Brother is a bad name.
Now can anyone tell me other than the hoop sizes lets say should I be worried about buying a smaller Brother machine and not being able to have it grow with me.
I just don't want to buy a michine then have to buy another one in a couple of years.

I have mine(Brother Ult2002D first Disney machine) and I use my sil machine and it is a Brother 1000(not Disney). What I like on mine that is not on hers is a bigger screen, it is in color, and it has more features. I wish mine had a usb port(it has a floppy drive). For an edit program on the computer, I use Embird. I have the older brother program but I really like embird better. Don't even have the brother program on my computer. If I were you and you really think you are going to like to embroidery, I would buy the best machine you can get. My machine is like the innov(sp) 2500. I hope that helps.
