Severe help needed to name my new Bengal kitten

Hmmmm, an Asian cat name....

What about Chop Suey? ;) Actually, he looks more like a little dumpling to me...which would be a cute name. :)

My 3 cats all have Hawaiian names. Popoki, means cat in Hawaiian. Puliki, means huggable in Hawaiian. Polohena, means misty, smoky, gray in Hawaiian. I found their names by reading different sites on the internet. I'm sure you could find a suitable name by doing the same.

Mushu, Ping, Yao, Chien-Po..... all from Mulan (which I think would be an awesome name if "he" was a "she") :goodvibes

We have two possible Tushar(meaning snow)or Sabu(sanskrit for snow leopard or ghost cat). It doesn't have to be asian. The brown kitty is Taj(4.5 month old)and most current Silver baby pictures(Thurs. will be 2 weeks).

Oh my. I want one too! I love kitties and I have been dreaming of a bengel some day. Unfortunately my daughter married a man that is alergic to cats and I am lucky enough to be able to adopt her kitties...so I have to wait!

Whatever name you give him...he is darling. Send more pictures whenever you can.

Out of total curiosity, how much do these cats cost? There are a bunch that live out of the dumpster at my country club that look an awful lot like the brown one. Are they bred for a specific temperament? Do they do something that regular cats don't do? I don't think I have ever heard of this kind of cat before. I thought from the initial kitten photo that they must be larger cats, but the brown one just looks like a cat.:)

My cats have Hawaiian names too - "Kaila" - which is my mom's name (Gail) in "Hawaiian" -- that's quoted because I don't really know how Hawaiian it really is. When you're in Hawaii, that's her name on all the souvenier trinkets ;) My other cat's name is "Kanoah" (or Noah for short) which means "free" in Hawaiian. . . a friend gave him to me, so I thought that was fitting.

Now, sorry that I hi-jacked your thread to the Hawaiian names!! Your kitty is just adorable!!! Soooo jealous! Why can't they stay that little forever??? I like the name "Grey", but also really like Dim Sum for what it means!

Bengal kittens range in price from $400-$1200 in my experience. They have spots instead of the stripes you would see on a tabby on the street. I am not the OP, but I believe she said the older cat was not even 6 months old. Bengals aren't necessarily larger than other cats, but are usually very muscular. As for temperament, they are like a cross between a cat and a dog and are very smart. Here's some info I found online:

What is the Bengal temperament?

While the Bengal is a beautiful and graceful creature that attracts us all, their temperament introduces unique characteristics that keep us all coming back for more! While beauty may only be skin deep, the intelligence of these cats provide an intellectual rapport not easily attained with other domestic cats. The Bengal is curious, active, loving, and has an amazing memory. They usually like to sleep near or with their owner, with many of them adopting a special place at the foot of the bed. The Bengal is not a sleep-all-day, soak-in-the-sun type of cat. They are loving, but still independent.

What is the typical Bengal personality?

Bengal personalities can vary, but overall they are a curious, tenacious, humorous and determined cat. They are as comfortable taking the challenge of walking the 2" railing on the second level of the house as they are trying to burrow under the dryer to retrieve a toy they swatted there three months ago. They are not an in-your-lap type of cat, but they do love you, and want to be with you, near you and well, even do your computer work for you, if you will let them. Their personality is both entertaining, daring and captivating. They can be trained more than most cats, and we sometimes even call them "puppy-cats" due to their dog-like behaviors they can sometimes portray.

How big is an adult Bengal?

The average Bengal cat weighs between 6 to 8 pounds for a female and 9 to 15 pounds for a male. The Asian Leopard Cat is a small cat ranging in weight between 5 to 7 pounds. Thus, the size and substance of the Bengal comes from the domestic side and not the Asian Leopard Cat as many may assume.

Are Bengals good with kids? How do they interact and respond?

Yes, they are excellent with kids. As with any domestic cat, if Bengals are raised in loving environments with human interaction, they tend to have a special bond with children, and we've frequently seen kids train their Bengals to do tricks such as fetch and "play dead".

Love, love, love my Bengal boy, Pharaoh! He is a big boy at 20 lbs and all muscle. He is inches taller and longer than my other cats too. He walks on a leash and is non-stop movement during the day. At night, he sleeps on my son's loft bed; climbs the ladder every night and sleeps at my son's feet. He "talks" to the bird, to the door, and to us with very unique voice. He knows how to turn on lights and if he had opposible thumbs, I swear he would open doors(jumps up and hits the doorknob with his paws) I wish I had gotten another Bengal when I got my two kittens, but I was worried about the cost. Of course, now one of my rescues is costing me more than my Bengal in medical costs, but that's another story.

They are purebreds and even though you can't see it in the photo Taj has spots that are tri-colored or as they are called rosettes. They are not cheap but if you like them you can find some older ones(retired breeders for alot less) They are VERY smart cats with more of a dog-like personality . She is being leash trained and loves the water like most bengals. They also have a very different kind of fur more like a pelt(like petting crushed velvet)and shed very little. They can also be glittered which she is highly . They also tend to be better for people with allergy and have talked to many that have reactions to regular cats but not bengals. Even with this said i would find a breeder and visit there cattery before as long as it's not life threating. You can find more info. on google about the breed and very funny videos on youtube.

Wow torinsmom you got in before my post and i could not have said it better. Did your cat go through the ugly fuzzies because Taj never got fuzzy(good genes)? Do you have the book getting to know the bengal cat by Gene Ducote(very good book on bengals). That is Taj breeder and she has spots that are just as pretty as the ones in her pictures.

Melinda

Venya~

Gender: Girl

Origin: Sanskrit

Meaning: Lovable; wished for

Pronunciation: (VEN ya)

We are totally going to steal that for the name of our (potential) new female kitten we might be getting next week if her shots and tests come back ok. We have a 21 month old grey female named Mischa. New one would be a 4 month old grey female that looks almost identical. The names would go together quite well: Mischa and Venya (and she is also suppose to be quite loveable and she is certainly wished for). :thumbsup2

Pharaoh is way down the line, so he has never been as beautiful as some Bengals. He was bred from two Bengals, but not by a breeder. I got him from the owner of an animal reserve who has all kinds of exotic animals. She has a male and female bengal that she has in together and whenever they have babies she sells them for much cheaper than breeders($300 for Pharaoh). Truth is, Pharaoh still seems to have the "fuzzies". He has spots and some are elongated. His tummy is so golden with the pelt like fur and beautiful black/brown spots, as is his head and neck, but the rest of his body is not as beautiful as your bengal. He has the bengal temperament though. I love the way he growls like a tiger when I bring him in from outside, but would never think of biting or scratching me, LOL. I have never read that book. I think my other cats need to read it because they have a hard time keeping up with him, LOL

Here's a few pics from when he was younger(gotta find my newer ones)

A friend of mine owned a Serval named Sher Khan. He was such a gorgeous cat.:love: I love your kitties too!!

Marsha,
I love your boy too! Pharaoh is a great name for him. :goodvibes

This is exactly why we need another one the other cat(Angel and not living up to her name)is a senior doesn't want to play but Taj keeps tring and won't give up.

She and He are also further down the line(sbt). I choose this because they are better behaved than the foundation bengal and will be for the most part indoor cats.

So of the names posted Which does everyone like: Tushar, Sabu or Gabriel(breeder calling him this)add Grey aka Sylar(this is what we'd call him).

Melinda

I like Sylar, just has a nice ring to it and kind of sounds like silver too.

Marsha

Ohhh he's sweeet looking reminds me of the savanah cats but smaller.
Boy they sure like to sleep tummy up which makes it hard to get pictures of there spotted backside and at other times there're just not still enough for pic. Thanks for the pic.

Now that Pharaoh is older, he has mellowed some and knows when to mess with the others and when to go find his toys or us to play with. When we first got him, we had a 14 year old cat and a 5 year old cat, both very sedentary. I think he thinks he has gone to heaven, because the younger of the kittens will play with him quite a bit. The little girl thinks she is too pretty to play though, LOL.

OMG, Pharaoh loves to lay on his back! And when he's lying on his side, if you just look at him, he will roll over to show his tummy and he looks so cute! SOmetimes when he is in a bad mood, I will say "Pharaoh, show me your tummy!" and he will roll over and get so sweet. He's probably the sweetest cat I have ever had and I have had cats since I was born 38 years ago.

Yours will probably calm down in a couple years. Pharaoh used to climb the Christmas tree and climb the door jambs(well, he still does this but not as much) and was in perpetual motion. We had to get lots of toys to tire him out and I have had two cat trees since he was one year old. CLimbing and scratching that seems to help. Going outside really burns some energy. I only let Pharaoh out on a leash. He just walks around the yard and runs after bugs and other animals, as well as leaves. People always stop in to see him, because they have never seen a cat on a leash. I even used to take him to Petsmart when he was younger and the fear of unknown dogs hadn't set in. I would hold him up by the bird cages and he would talk and talk. LOL, not too nice to the birds, now that I think of it.

I love Sabu!!! It has a very exotic sound to it! Friends of ours named their brown bengal Java which is very fitting for 2 coffee lovers, but it also sounds exotic and fits their boy so well.
