Thanks to all who have answered my concierge question

My wife and I will be traveling with our fickle 13 year old and a fraidy cat 7 year old. Are single children as anxious to attend the kids clubs? Should we wait to travel with another family?

Do they rent those Nextel type direct connect phones on board?

Is either cruise more kid friendly/interesting?

In reading others post, there seems to be alot of dropping the kids off, going your own way (Palo seems to be mentioned often, are no kids allowed), and then picked up. Are the kids services that good.

What kind of restrictions will be placed on the 13 yr old??

We are just about to jump on or off with our decision, it's not the end of the world, if we don't do the cruise we will go to WDW, but I am dying to cruise!!

Bob, my daughter (almost 9) has been on 4 Disney cruises so far and we literally have to drag her out of the kid's programming. It's THAT good. She is an only child and has no problems at all jumping right in to activities. Kids who are shyer may have a little more difficulty but there is so much to do I'm sure they will find things to keep them occupied.

The 13-year-old will be in Common Grounds, the teen activity center and I HIGHLY recommend he/she go to the meet the first night. That's especially helpful for teens to meet others; I know many teens who have cruised who have formed lasting friendships from kids they have sailed with. The key is to get started early in the programming so they feel comfortable. The teens are allowed to come and go from activities as desired. The younger child will not be able to sign him/herself out of the programming, you will be given a pager and they will page you if he/she wants to leave.

I'd go for the longest cruise you can possibly go on.

No, they don't rent direct connect phones.

GO CRUISE, I promise you won't regret it! :D

You can get a text pager from the club so they can contact you if necessary for the 7 yr old. No kids allowed in Palo.

Bellmawr Bob:

Hi! We're from Brooklawn, just one town over. We're doing the 6/29/02 Eastern 7 day. Our boys ages 6 and 11 are so excited, they won't stop asking when we go. I think you'll enjoy the cruise. This will be our first disney cruise, but we're very excited. We've been to WDW so the cruise will be something to add to our Mickey Mouse memories. Go and have a great time!!!!

We last cruised in Feb 2001. My DD then 4 and my DS then 7 had to be DRAGGED out of the club every night. My DD wanted to spend the entire day at sea in the club, but we told her she had to eat with us! Both kids have talked about the cruise at least once a week since we got back!

We are cruising again in Sept. and they are already driving us crazy!

GO FOR THE CRUISE!!!!!

We will be going on our 6th DCL cruise this August (yes, we like it that much!) as do many others.

My teens 18, 17, 14 all prefer the 7 day compared to the 4 night for teen activites and fun. They meet other teens the first night at the teen 411 and then have a whole week to bond. My kids are still keeping in touch with kids they met on all our previous DCL cruises.

Now my 18 year old is allowed in the adult clubs, activities and Palo so she is discovering a whole new side of the DCL experience!

No, there's no NexTel service onboard, but you can make do with radios that use the Family Radio Service (FRS) bands.
