We are planning our next trip (yea!!!) and am considering trying Kona for the first time. We LOVE O'hana - it is our fav. meal so far! So considering trying Kona as well. But have several questions -

1) Other than that is is served family style at O'hana, how is the food at Kona different?

2)Is breakfast or dinner better at Kona?

3)What are your favorites for dinner and b-fast at Kona?

4)And if you have eaten at Boma for dinner which is better for breakfast?

We ate at both in Sept. Didn't care for some of the dinner items (the seafood dishes) at Kona but I've read that their steak is good and my DSIL said the pork chop was the best he's ever had; their breakfast is great. Kona is not family style, it's order from the menu.

Here's a link to all the WDW restaurants and their menus:

I've only had breakfast at Kona but I can tell you that it was yummy. The Tonga Toast is very good, but very sweet, and it's a good item to share with someone. The breakfast is also on the cheaper end. Even though we were on the dining plan, we paid out of pocket and saved our table service credits for something more substantial. Plus even though we made our ressies while it was still the 90 days out rule, it was an easy ressie to get. In fact, the place was pretty empty the morning we went, but we did go on the later end of breakfast around 10:30.

Hope this helps! :goodvibes

We love, love, love Kona!

It has become a must do for us every trip. Breakfast is good, but dinner is fantastic!

The wings and teriyaki steak are winners with all the men in our family. They get a thumbs up every time.:thumbsup2 DH & I both love the Tuna Oscar. I crave this dish....OMG:lovestruc

Also you can order sushi from the sushi bar if you are a fan. We love the sushi here too. YUMMO:banana:

Kona is a great place for dinner. Breakfast is good too. You can't go wrong with the Big Kahuna Breakfast or the Tonga Toast. But if your in the mood for Tonga Toast only, just go down to Captain Cooks and get it for a half the cost and no ADR needed.

Boma is really great for breakfast too, so I would have a tough decision between the two. My deciding factor would be location and accessibility for breakfast. Basically, whichever I were closer to would be the winner cause there are no losers with your options.:goodvibes

I was not a huge fan of Ohana but Kona was one of our favorites of the trip! I had the crabcakes as an appy, and the Tuna Oscar, and although my tuna was slightly overdone (i like mine very rare) it was still a great meal....my BFs steak was amazing, and my friend had the almond chicken salad which was great. the bread is to-die-for!! It is pillowy soft and has great flavor...also desserts were fantastic. I had the coconut tart and it was my favorite dessert of the trip!

OMG!!!! How could I forget about that wonderful bread!?! The bread itself is worth going for. The macadamia nut butter.....hmmmmm! (okay, I think I just drooled all over myself)

:blush:Time to clean up...:laundy:

Kona was such a favorite of ours on our trip in September that we ended up cancelling another ADR just to go here again...we couldn't get in so they asked us if we wanted to sit against the windows at the sushi bar and the entire menu is available there as well. So thats what we did. The teryaki steak is yummy! THe wings super yummy!
BUT DESSERTS IS WHERE ITS AT:goodvibes

We tried both Kona and Ohana for first time this spring.

Kona was a much better value for us. We stayed at SOG and ate at Kona nearly every monring on our way to the monorail. We had tonga toast, pineapple macademia pancakes, the fruit platter.

Our evening meal at Kona was good too. We had coconut encrusted chicken, it was very tasty but not really out of the ordinary. Definitely would eat here again for both meals.

We really enjoyed Kona on our last trip for both breakfast and dinner. The Tonga Toast is so good but very filling, you won't be hungry again until dinner time! My husband had the Big Kahuna which he really enjoyed as well. The coffee (presspot) and juice are excellent as well.

I had the coconut chicken which was yummy and thechef was very attentive as I have nut allergies.

My three boys enjoyed the selections at both breakfast and dinner.

Overall, it was a great experience!

We've eaten at both for both breakfast and dinner. I love the Tonga toast and the macadamia nut pineapple pancakes at Kona, but would still have to give the edge to Bomas for breakfast.

For dinner at Konas I love ordering sushi off the sushi place's menu, the tuna oscar with fried green tomatoes or pomegranite pork chop for an entree and the banana chocolate creme brulee for dessert. I'd still go with Bomas over Kona though, if I could do just one. I love Boma's soups, salads, and desserts. I could easily make a meal just off Boma's soups and would go there just for them. Their coconut seafood soup, carrot ginger soup, and gumbo are out of this world. Of course the zebra domes are not bad either.

We love both Kona and 'Ohana although they are totally different experiences. Some of the food we love for dinner:
Appetizers: Sticky Wings and Pot Stickers, although I would skip the appetizers and just enjoy two loaves of the amazing bread and butter.
Entrees: Barbecued Pork Chop, Ginger Crusted Ribeye and Teriyaki-style New York Strip
Desserts: Banana-Chocolate Creme Brulee, Kona Kone and Chocolate Fondue.
