Several DVC questions

Well we are going for my 40th b-day officially now. We are flying in Sat afternoon, spending all day Sun for my b-day, and then flying out Mon am. Total whirlwind trip. So I want to do the DVC tour.

How do I arrange a tour? Is there a number to call?

I gave my e-mail a while ago, and have a person who sends me info, do I have to use her as my guide?

We want BLT, do we get to choose a Use Year, or will it be pre-assigned?


Is there a question you wished you had asked before you bought?

We will be there 1/10. I know the current incentive runs out 1/14. If the "next" incentive is better once we get home, will we be able to switch?

If I buy in January, do I automaticaly get those points to use in 2009? If my use year is say October, will I get another load of points then? Or will the points given in January not be re-issued until October of 2010? If I get the points in Jan, and they are "re-loaded" or whatever the term is in Oct, will I have to have banked the points given in January if they weren't used??

The developer points that are the incentive right now, they have to be used by October 3rd? Do they have to be used all at one time, or can they be spit into a couple of stays?

You can arrange the tour from any DVC kiosk at the parks, hotels or other Disney venues, like Downtown Disney.

I can't really answer about the incentive switch, but my guess would be it's possible, but don't get your hopes up.

You cannot use your BLT points anywhere until BLT opens. I don't really know how it works if you have a use year in the months at the end of this year after the resort opens, but I would assume you get points for this year to be used after September and you'd get your 2010 points in October 2009 if that's your use year.

I'm pretty sure you can choose any use year as long as it has points available.

Developer points can be split into different stays so long as your stays are complete by 3 October.

And yes, the person who sends you info is your Guide. DVC knows who you are and they'll ask for your name and address and figure out your Guide even if you don't tell them. They're watching.

Re the UY, when I bought in early December, I needed June or later and my guide had to double-check that they were selling beyond April UYs. I don't know enough about timeshares to understand, but I did get my June UY.

you get now developer points to be used until Sept, 2009 - then you get your 2009 points.

developer points can only used used at SSR in WDW or DL in Cal. If you get enough points (160 or more) they can be used in II.

say your use year is June - so in June, 2010 you will get your 2010 points.

that say you can bank and borrow - so in 2010 you can use your 2009 banked, your 2010 points plus your 2011 points borrowed.

the developer points can not be banked - they must be used by Sept 30, 2009.

think right now you can get $1,000 for buying 160 points if you are new member - much better than the $5 discount per point that members get.

you would have to buy 200 points (not 160 - the minimum now) to get any discounts offered next year.

In Jan, they will likely be selling a March or April use year for BLT but you should be able to choose a different one . There are no 2008 BLT points, thus if you choose a Dec use year, your first allotment of points will be Dec 2009 (thus you might want to rethink getting an Oct or Dec use year -- understand that use year has nothing to do with when you can go to WDW which is any time of year). Whatever use year you get, none of the regular BLT points can be used for any trip (at any of the DVC resorts) except one that begins after BLT opens (Sep 2009).

Not sure cut-off dates mentioned above for using developer points are correct. My understanding was that you would have a year after sale to use them, although I could be wrong.

Possible that if new deal is better you will be able to change upon request. The thing is you have 10 days after signing all the documents to cancel the deal and thus if the change in deals comes during that 10 day period, they may be willing to do a switch because otherwise you can just cancel the first deal and start again.

One thing I learned and it came in handy.

If you purchase a large number of points break those points into smaller contracts if they will do that.

Example if you buy 200 get 2 100 contracts, it will be the same contract number just a number 1, 2..etc after the number.

If you purchase 300 go 3 100 or 2 150.

Smaller contracts are so much easlier to sell if you have to than a larger one.

They are changing points limits around, they started with BLT.

UY as of last wk, was Feb. I signed my contract last Tue. "BLT is the place to be". Happy 40th, mine is in June.....we are getting old. lol lol

If you go in stating you want a certain BLT use year, your guide should absolutely be able to make it happen for you!

We often take January and February trips and unfortunately, my husband isn't able to secure each new year's vacation weeks until December of the year prior - in other words, 1-2 months before we plan to travel! The use year that DVC is currently pushing just wasn't going to work for us. We didn't want to chance losing points if we had to cancel a January/February trip (which is always a possibility with vacations chosen in order of senority), so we went with an October UY. This was based on the fact that we also plan to travel to WDW in October, November, and December in the future.
