My DD's hair dresser confirmed today that her natural curly hair had run it's course. I am in mourning for her curls. I miss them so much. I really wish she didn't straighten it so much when she was younger. Here she is last year at her H.S. Graduation..... I know it seems silly but this week she turns 18 and it seems every little part of the "little girl" is gone. :sad2:

Your daughter is beautiful. I didn't get the part about the seven year hair cycle.

Thank you.

Her hair dresser said your hair can change in cycles usually around 7 years. So the texture and or natural curl may change. For her, the curl is now gone. It was so beautiful. Don't know if the 7 year thing is true though.

I just googled this...

My hair is on year 10, yes 10 of being curly, but not tight curled like your dd.

I had a baby in 2000....and my hair looked like it had been permed. Still does.

But right now, I think it is in it's short cycle and I would really like it to shift to a more fast growing cycle.:rotfl2:

Will the curl come back?? I know I should google it, but I don't want to see it if the answer is no.

I will wish upon you quick growing hair!!!!!

My hair got less curly over time but not in a cycle. I'm actually happy that it's straight. What does your daughter think?

Lengthy article--but it is making me feel like crying...

I had cut my hair in 2004 really really short and it has grown so slowly. I keep wondering why it isn't getting to the longer middle length I had prior..I'm guessing my latest hair cycle is short hair--meaning it doesn't grow for very long and then falls out. :(

Here is the link---I'm still reading.

I had curly hair and it straightened out. The curls came back when I was pregnant with my daughter 17 years ago and it's still curly now!

Here is the part on curly hair...

Variations in hair structure

Scientists do not fully understand why the different types of hair grow straight or curly or wavy. This is probably determined by several factors, which may vary in their importance during life. This is why some curly-headed children have straight hair later in life, and vice versa. These factors include:

* the way the large bundles of keratin are arranged within each hair shaft
* the position of the hair bulb in the hair follicle - in African hair the bulb may lie to the side of the follicle, and so the hair shaft grows out of the follicle at an acute angle
* irregular growth in the hair bulb - if it varies slightly to one side or the other the hair may grow wavy
* the shape of the hair follicle, whether it is straight or curved
* the number of twists per unit length.

All hair, even the apparently perfectly straight hair of Asian people, twists as it grows. The number of twists in a given length of hair determine how curly it is: the more twists there are, the curlier it will be. Some African hair has 12 times as many twists per centimetre as Caucasian hair.

She is trying to hide the fact that she can't have it both ways. She misses the curls, but would never come out and say it. That would prove I was right.;)

I'll read with you, sorry I made you sad.

Well, my husband and I both have had curly hair our entire lives, although I did go through brief spells of it being a little more wavy than curly, and it was right around your daughter's age. I have a couple of friends whose hair has never straightened out.

She said she is going to work with it tomorrow to see what happens. I need to act like it is nothing now.

My mom was a bit upset when I cut my hair short when I was about your daughter's age.

I am not upset with her at all, she could shave it bald if she wanted, just a bit upset with the growing up that I am finding hard. Okay, I would be upset with a few piercings and tattoo's, but we won't tell her that!!;)

Hers is still past her shoulders, just straight. She doesn't look like her anymore.
