Seven Year Hair Cycle - sad day for me...

She is trying to hide the fact that she can't have it both ways. She misses the curls, but would never come out and say it. That would prove I was right.;)

And we know "mom" can't be right:rotfl:

Amen to that... Added to DD's Christmas list, hot curlers idea provided by Lisa Loves Pooh - another Mom!!

Can I suggest this? http://www.ulta.com/ulta/browse/productDetail.jsp?productId=prod2127495

I have it and LOVE it. I'm 23, so not terribly older than your daughter. It gives your hair a really cool kind of a curl. I use it a lot and get nothing but compliments on my hair. It does not give you ringlets, but more like how Taylor Swift's hair is curled. It takes a little getting used to, but I can't get enough of it!

Thank you. I am working hard to get a Santa gift to lift her spirits. She went back to her dorm tonight and tried everything to get the curl back. Nothing worked, and she was extremely upset.:sad1:

Well it's not a permanent fix, but it works well enough. It looks just as great the second day too, if not better. If she wants a more permanent fix, what about a perm? They are a lot different know than they used to be, and have a lot of new techniques so they look natural. I think i'm going to be getting one myself in the next couple months.

I am sure she will have to "sit" on it for a few days. She got the haircut today and she thought with the dead ends off it would curl again, just didn't happen. I have her home for a month, so I am sure we will figure it out.

has very straight hair. But when she was a toddler she had about 6" of beautiful curls on the bottom. Because I am crazy, we didn't cut her hair until she was 5. (it was WAY down her back.) I cut off a few of the curls to save them before we went to the hairdresser. When we came back and they were all gone I was upset. She asked me why, and I said, "because I miss your curls" and she said, "Why? They're in a bag in the cupboard."

OP, I have naturally curly hair, and I went through a period from the age of about 19 until I was 25 when it was straight. I never straightened it, either with a flat-iron or chemically, it just went away on its own. It wasn't pin-straight or anything, but I just didn't have the tight curls that I'd had before. And they did eventually come back. I never really put it together as a "cycle", but it makes perfect sense! So anyhow, it's entirely possible that your DD's hair will get its curl back! :thumbsup2

As a child, I had ringlets underneath. Later, still as a kid, I got perms and didn't really know what my natural hair was like (it was the 80's...). Then I grew it long and all one length and it was pretty straight. Finally, at about age 30, my sister cut it shorter and layered and coaxed some curls out- they had been weighted down by length. I still have to work at it when it's not humid out- Pantene curl shampoo, conditioner, and mousse, and John Freida curl spray. Maybe she could try some of those?

My girls both got curls- DD12's is long and more wavy being at that length- on a good day it looks almost like Taylor Swift's. DD9 at shoulder length can get some serious boings, especially in summer. I love it and I would be sad too if their curls went away. They were SO cute as toddlers with ringlets all over their heads.

All three of us look better in humid weather- we love summer and Florida vacations :)

My hair has been straight as a board, baby fine, and thick since the day I was born and it still is and I am 37. It seems to grow faster and faster each year, I have to have it cut at least once every 4 weeks to keep it looking professional. In the summer I have to have it thinned out a little, because it is so hot otherwise

It was funny, when I was growing up, my mother and grandmother wanted me to have curly hair, so they would put a home perm in it and when they took the curlers out afterwards, it was still as straight as it was when they started. They finally gave up, but I slept in those pink foam rollers for most of my high school years for curls to last an hour.
