hi
We haven't been to WDW for a few years so are new to FP+ and haven't ever been on SDMT. We couldn't get FP+ to go on it. Any strategies for not getting in a long line? Any ideas how long the stand by line is if we get there at RD? We will be there first week in Aug.

Thanks

Getting there at RD is a good strategy. CMs will tell you to go through the castle to get to 7D, don't do it. You're going to want to veer off to the right of the castle, there will be much fewer people going this route and you will get to the 7D line quicker than the mass mob that went through the castle.

If you're not near the front at rope drop, then by the time you get to the mine train it might be a 30-45 min wait. Best bet is to either be among the first at rope drop, hang a right at the bridge right before the castle like you're going to the teacups...or our favorite, ride at night. Line dies down a lot late at night and not to mention the ride is a lot better at night vs the day. Looks better and feels a lot faster.

I did a night ride once at 12:45am (MK was closing at 1am) and the line was still packed. I waited about 40 min to get on. And this was November week before Thanksgiving so fairly light crowds in general.

Have you considered looking for a pre-RD breakfast reservation at BOG? It will get you into the back of the park and very close to SDMT before the main entrance RD guests arrive at the ride. We've ridden with FP+ a few times, but wanted to see the games in the queue on our upcoming trip, so this is our strategy. It's a counter service meal and you can even share meals if you don't want to spend a lot of $$ on a breakfast.

I would also continue looking for FP+ as something may pop up! Otherwise, I would go right at RD.

This! I didn't look at the whole week, but checked Aug 4th and there is still an 8 am spot open (I looked for a party of four) - which I found surprising!

What are the rules for this? In other words, if I have an 8am breakfast, and the park officially opens at 9, and I eat my breakfast really quick and am done by 845am, can I leave and go wait in the 7D line?

You can get in the SDMT line as soon as you finish Breakfast.

"Most" days recently, they have started letting BOG Guests start riding SDMT around 7:35 AM-we got 3 rides in before the maingate line arrived during our trip earlier this month.:)

We found last year, that the queue was about 45 minutes in the evening (about 10pm)

Though I would recommend riding it both during the day and at night; as they are totally different experiences IMO

At night, as the crowd decreases, the wait time is often less than the posted time as it takes time to get it updated. Twice last summer we got in line as it showed 40 minutes and our wait was closer to 20.

Do the pre-park ADR at BOG. When you finish eating you can ask a cm where the line begins as you won't be able to get right up to the line. The cm will walk the line AHEAD of the other rd lines coming from CRT, CP and the front of the park. You will walk right on. If you are lucky and at the front, maybe twice.

For the night time lines. The line is never a walk on. However the later you can wait the more the wait time decreases. If we ride it at night we usually wait about 20-30 min. During the day it's usually around 60-90 min

The BOG breakfast works really well. We did this twice on our recent trip. The first time, they started letting ppl ride mine train around 8:45. We got 2 rides in before the RD crowd hit the line. The 2nd time, they let people ride closer to 8:40. We did 2 rides and got at the front of the line for a 3rd when we saw an absolute wall of people from RD approaching. Both times we were out of breakfast by 8:40. This was in early July.

As for nighttime riding, the lines for mine train stay pretty long. We got in line around 12:30 am during EMH 12 am-2am (July 11 iirc). The wait was still about 45 mins. Big Thunder and Space were walk-ons by that time.

So happy to see this! Just this morning I snagged a 8:05 BOG for a 9AM MK opening. I'm glad to see that the extremely early morning will have a glorious payoff!

We were just there last week and did not have fast passes either. One night, when the park closed at midnight, we got in line at 11:15 or so and waited MAYBE 20 minutes. Then got off and rode it two more times in a row before the park closed. So we rode it 3 times in a row in 45 minutes. It CAN be done and we did the same thing when we were there last November. Go about 45 minutes before the park closes and look carefully at the line. Sometimes it is much shorter than it's posted time.

We rode in early June right after Wishes. The posted wait was 65 minutes but the actual wait was 5 minutes.

Last summer on opening week for the attraction, we were easily able to ride twice each night during the last half of operation.

Keep on eye on the park opening time. We had BOG 8:05 AM ressies for this WED coming up 7/29. They just released new opening time of 8AM for MK on that day. I cancelled my BOG ressie because the main reason was to get there early and have a good spot for Mine Train line. Boo.
I'm very happy I did not change the mine train FP+...I was considering it.

Same thing just happened to me. I had an 8am early entry ADR booked for 8/5...but they changed park opening to 8am instead of 9.
