Seven Dwarfs mine train trains on track UPDATED! First drop test

Iam not sure you should say that all that Universal has built recently is notas good as this kiddie coaster.I do believe right now Universal has stepped there game up big time and is actually at the forefront of ride technology and there theming is off the hook aswell.Disney is still a great destination,but New Fantasyland is not gonna cut it in the general peoples eye,s when it comes to what is hot and new.

Completely agree. I think Disney could take a cue from Universal in new ride ideas. I feel like every time they make a new ride, its a version of another ride.

Ex: Toy Story Mania. Just like Buzz Lightyear Space Ranger Spin. Ex: Voyage of the Little Mermaid. Just like The Seas With Nemo. Ex: Magic Carpets of Aladdin. Just like Dumbo. Ex: The Three Cabaleros. Just like Its A Small World. And now it looks like Mine Train will be awfully similar to Thunder Mtn...which already IS a mine train.

Don't get me wrong, I like all these rides. Would just be nice to experience something totally different.

Does anyone have any idea on time-frame for this? I keep reading "2014" but that's still rather vague. Maybe in time for spring break? I'm not gonna hold my breath that it might be ready for early 2014, when I'd like to take our next trip (end of January).

Cool pics though! Looks like it'll be fun. BTMRR is one of our favorites, so we'll look forward to checkin this one out when the time eventually comes.

Well, true. You're absouletly that Disney has repeated the ride experience with different theming, but Universal is kind of a victim of this too: Transformers is like Spider Man, Kang and Kodos is like One Fish, Two Fish. I do think that yeah both will have the mine train setting, but this will (hopefully) rely on the dark ride section and that might make it alot more different

They should be able to make a lot of progress soon,for we will be out the rainy season soon.I will guess by spring or early summer.They will try to push this quickly to open before harry Potter phase 2.Hey just for the fun of it which opening do you think has more anticipation for opening 7 Dwarfs or Harry Potter 2?

None of the train cars in those pictures look like they are "swinging". I thought that was the whole "new ride technology" that was supposedly engineered for this ride. ????

Anyone else think those seats look incredibley uncomfortable?

I partially agree I guess you can say. Like Dumbo and Aladdin to me probably the most similar because of the type of ride, themed just different. Small World and Three Cabaleros, yeah, I see that. Little Mermaid, Seas with Nemo, yeah I see that. Toy Story and Buzz, a interactive ride, yea shooting at stuff, but I get different experience at that. I think I will with this new ride too because its going to have a dark ride feel to it, a good mix.

Like someone else said like Universal has, Spiderman and Transformers. So sometimes this is going to happen, a same type of ride, but yes the experience needs to be different. Which with a coaster ride it can be done. We will see how it is. Maybe go into with average to low expectations of it and then be pleasantly surprised. If you go into it with super high expectations then yeah, you might be disappointed.

Well working at Disney all I ever hear is where are all the thrill rides,and I can only say we have a few.The biggest draw at Disney Parks are when they do something with the VILLIANS all the time,so wish they would come up with a great ride and theme concept with that in mind.I also wish they would do a greet and meet like Princess fairy tale hall with the villians.

I think I have reached the point in my life where the thrill meter is being overtaken by the experience meter. Hoping it will be a good show.

I have gone and will go to ETWB just to see the mirror.

~Yeah, I'm gradually approaching that point, but not without a fight! The most "thrilling" part about this ride for me will be the diamond mine -- oh, I just can't wait to see those fabulous gems!!!

The coaster is indeed "too cute". It looks like it's going to be the next most popular family ride in the "World". Better get ready to FP+ this one. On the flip side, it is definately a step below BTMRR on the thrillmeter. Combine the outdoor area shown with a slow, indoor dark ride portion and this will be a "fun little ride".

~Yes! This coaster is so unique because it is literally two rides in one -- part dark ride, part coaster in addition to the swinging aspect. I expect this to be coaster to become a huge favorite.

In an interview with a Disney Imagineer he was asked the question about thrill level and he replied somewhere in between barnstormer and BTMRR.

I couldn't agree more. This ride will be very popular but I think its time that a new ride of great stature has been added to the other three parks. Universal just keeps building and building and building it's taken 5 years since it's been announced for this ride to be built 5 years universal has announced and built rides in one year. Yes those rides may not be as good but I think disney needs to add some more attractions to the parks to keep them fresh new and exciting.

~I agree. Disney is committed and focused on building DVC and developing real estate, I see no signs of this slowing down. I can't stand the concept of DVC, but just the thought of buying into Poly DVC is becoming increasingly irresistible.

This is a good question-- If it is under motor control, the ride can greatly be enhanced with forces opposite of the expected momentum force. They could create the feeling of the mine car leaning onto the outside two wheels as it rounds a corner. That would be cool.

Well tell them to go to Six Flags if they just want thrill rides. If they want a good experience that the whole family can enjoy, with a little thrill her and there that even some small kids can ride like ToT, (got my 4 yr old nephew on it) then they are in the right place.

At Six Flags you don't have as many rides that the whole family can enjoy. If you go to kiddie land there, its hard to get adults on some of those rides, they have to watch. If you go on the big coasters, you may not be able to get your young kid on it.

I,m by no means saying Disney World isn't set up for a family experience,but times have changed.I see most children 6 and older wanting to ride roller coaster,s or dark rides that are fun.The only little ones I see that are into smaller and less thrilled rides are usually girls(most are there for princess,s).I am not saying they have to build huge roller coaster,s or extreme rides,but they need to amp up the thrill factor quite a bit.In my own honest opinion I think LEGOLAND is probably the best children park I have seen.Look at Universal for instance.They have great themed lands that the whole family can enjoy,plus in those areas are thrill rides that are not to extreme.

I guess I was expecting more. If you watched the video of the Imagineers testing it out in a back lot somewhere, it swung around a lot more.

I see value in both thrill rides and dark/story rides. I love Tower of Terror and Space Mountain, but I love Haunted Mansion and Splash Mountain just as much.

I even enjoyed Peter Pan on my last trip as I got on instantly during EMH rather than waiting 2 hours for it. Any ride is better without a 2hr wait.

I completely agree. I'm not the worlds biggest fan of the Universal parks because they just seem to be missing the magic, but their ride technology is worlds above anything Disney is doing for some reason. Universal has majorly impressed me as of late. Can't wait to check out the new Gringots ride.
