Tonight a stray firework ember found its way onto the seven dwarfs mine train and it started a fire. The area was evacuated immediately and RCFD showed up and the fire is now out. No word on injuries or damage. A similar fire started from a firework on the under the sea journey with the little mermaid earlier this year.

It's like they are going to have to start having better fire watches in place when they use fireworks! There safety department is going to have a lot of explaining to do. Hopefully the damage isn't too bad.

Fire is out, minor damage the area has reopened, ride is still closed for time being.

There was a report that the structure began to collapse, according to a couple places. I'm trying to looking into it.

I heard this as well. Could you imagine?! Just think how long it will be for them to reopen if major damage is done.

Here's an early news report from the Orlando Sentinel:

http://www.orlandosentinel.com/news/breaking-news/os-dwarfs-mine-train-fire-20141101-story.html

According to the article: "The fire was small and is out, Disney officials said. It was on the outer part of the structure, and not on the train itself."

So the report from the "Disney officials" suggests that nothing collapsed and that the fire was not serious. Then again, Disney also downplayed the damage in Tiki Room Under New Management fire. It took a long time for the Enchanted Tiki Room to reopen.

Just heard from an IG user who is there now, @festivaloffantasyparade : Fantasyland reopened and everyone's fine, a lot of guests waiting back in line for SDMT. No structural, all superficial damage according to CM's. Fire department cleared for it to reopen and will soon be available for EMH guests. No structural failure despite reports.

Hallelujah.

Ride has reopened and is fully operating strictly cosmetic damage that probably can be fixed over night or in a couple of days.

IIRC, this is the 2nd time since the new Fantasyland expansion that sparks from the fireworks ignited "decorative elements" (i.e. vegetation) on the top of the mine train.

It was months ago, but I thought I heard at the time that cast members are always positioned on the rooftops with fire extinguishers, and besides they're going to redesign the decorative elements, etc.

If the same thing happened again, or a very similar incident, isn't summa gonna be in summa bigga trouble? Besides the danger to employees and paying guests, it kinda looks really really bad on the news and on social media. It's one thing if a random, unforeseen electrical problem happens but to let the exact same thing happen twice due the same apparently unfixed design fault ... ?

It's actually more common than you think. With that amount of fireworks being used on a daily basis, it's actually surprising that it doesn't happen more often. It only takes a spark and some vegetation to start a fire :confused3

Is this a line from the song for the revised Figment ride?

Just one spark... in the vegetation...could be the start... of dwarf cremation..

If this keeps happening disney world will become like disneyland and they will close fantasyland for the fireworks and really have to limit where they shoot them off

Most likely yes but this has happened on two nights that were very windy and low humidity so I think disney needs to be more aware of the weather as well.

I'm not from the US and English is not my native language. I do take phrases from songs whenever I'm having trouble trying to express myself :lmao: Not Figment this time though.

i am glad they reopened it. Also glad that no one was hurt.
I am hoping it stays open for when we are there in 13 days. It would totally suck if we go twice in one year and miss it 2x. lol.

I saw this on Tumblr last night and really thought someone was just messing with everyone. So glad everyone is okay.

Brilliant...but now I will have that tune in my head for the rest of the day.
