Last time we were on the Fantasy, we expanded our interest in DVC which overran the card (oops).

They stopped us from getting off the ship and sent me back to guest services to pay up. I didn't call their bluff and did have another card to put the remainder on.

Here is my question though. If I didn't have another card or way to pay up - what exactly was their end game? Not let me off the ship? Cause I'm not sure I wouldn't have been okay with that - even if I had to scrub the deck so to speak. :rotfl2:

i think they really didn't think that thorough enough.

Oh, if only that were true....

<me> buys 200,000 DVC points onboard

Wash 2,700 dishes.

Well for more then 1 reason they would not keep you on board............likely you would have to sign some agreement to promise you are going to pay them. I am sure Disney has a big staff doing that collection stuff. Not to mention they would destroy your credit.

That's what I'm sayin'. Time to go crazy on the ship and leave my card on shore. See what they do with that. :-)

If you don't pay your tab at a restaurant, they can call the police. It's similar to shoplifting because you're taking merchandise or using a service that you are agreeing to pay for in advance and then not paying for it as agreed. I would expect DCL to do the same because it's a lot easier to collect after the fact with the threat of criminal charges hanging over someone's head. I would imagine most people have a second, third or fourth credit card and DCL would probably push their credit card if you didn't (run the application right there while you sit in the brig ) just to get it settled up before you're off the ship. I imagine some have had to call home to family or friends and borrow money to settle a bill too. For as wonderful Disney is at all the wonderful things they do, they are EXTRA wonderful at getting your money. I'm sure they have lots of plan Bs just in case.

Funny this came up - my parents traveled with us on our last cruise and my dad had his credit card info stolen in port. When they tried to run it for his bill he got the call it got declined and he kept insisting he would just deal with it when he got home. They were pretty insistent he come settle it immediately obviously and he took care of it but we were always curious how far it goes before you get in trouble or sign an agreement lol

Not on DCL, but when we cruised a few years ago on RCL I was at guest services on the final day and couldn't help but notice the guy next to me was telling the staff he had no more money to pay his bill...his card had been declined. They had him sign a promissory note to commit to pay the bill. Legal document that acknowledges the debt.
