Setting Up a Camp Kitchen (for tents)

Okay, we have a 9.5 x 13.5 foot screen house that I want to use as our kitchen at Ft. Wilderness. Right now we have a 2 burner Coleman stove, an electric cooler, a regular ice chest and a few miscellaneous tubs and bins. I also have a set of cast iron camping cookware. I'm thinking about bringing the crockpot. What else do we need? How would you set it up? Unless it's absolutely freezing outside we plan on doing a lot of eating at the campsite.

I always cruise thru the 1500/2000 loop to see how tenters and pop ups set up camp. We're going to Durhamtown in north GA next month to ride our 4 wheelers. I too want to have an outside kitchen as 3 families are going and we'll all be sharing cooking duties. One thing that I have is a lot of portable tables. You just can't seem to have enough table top space. I have an outside shower that has a hose or shower head attachment. I'm thinking of bringing a laundry room sink to do pans and stuff in. Portable shade tents seem to be popular now too. Type in camping sink on Ebay and you'll see a lot of options for portable sinks as well. Somebody post a link to Tim0500 I think it is. This guy has more info than you need. He has a great site.

If you have the space and can carry a larger stove, something like this:

I use it whenever we are frying bacon, sausage, burgers, anything that has the potential to splatter lots of grease, not to mention it has tons more room than the trailer stove.

An extra table is always nice. Sams has a very nice one that folds up really well. Electric griddle is good too. LOTs of good quality paper plates and eating utensils help cut down on dishes. This might be hard to find, but a campbox on legs would be nice. Something like this is good.

Okay when i camp for a week or more I carry (big Bertha)She's a 3 burner tri fuel coleman stove,A coleman propane skillet,crock pot,microwave and my coleman refrig.2 coleman stands for coolers and at least one portable table....With that being said i also carry a coleman kitchen with me and a spare 5 gal propane tank,I also carry a eazy up!!!! To put this all under...Yes as my wife likes to call it THE BIG SHOW Yes we do most of our cooking at the camp site......Now if i could only talk my wife into that beer tap i saw at sams club.................

If you wanna take everything AND the kitchen sink....this is what we got right before our trip to the fort this month. It came in handy, especially washing out those refillable mugs. Notice the drain goes to a gray water container and it can be emptied at the comfort station:

That is very, very nice. What is it called? I want one! I don't know if Scott is going to go for it, he's a backpacker (read camping snob) and is also worried about cramming all of the junk I'm ordering into the Camry. The camp beds came in today and the box stands chest high to me. The UPS man is starting to complain.

We just use the willing help at Trail's End. I might just take a coffee maker but that's about it. We try to spend most of our time in a Park.

Now when we stay in a DVC resort, we might cool a little, but, with the DDP, why bother?

BTW, your kitchen setup seems nicer than the one in my TT!! LOL I want to set up an outside kitchen as well. I like to cook outside. My TT has a little holder for an outside stove and the hookup for propane, I just need to get me one!!

Quite the opposite for us. It would have cost just the 3 of us $1,052.73 for 9 days on the DDP. This last trip we paid $ 494.85 for the 9 days...that's eating at the campsite most meals (groceries from Wal-Mart) and includes once at Chevy's, twice at McDonald's, once at Buffalo Wild Wings, the Hoop-dee-doo and twice at Disney Quest, two breaksfasts at Trails End....and almost forgot the most important...the F&W Festival at Epcot.

We feel the same way. We've tried the DDP twice and it's just not for us. We're not huge fans of the counter service places and don't really want to bother with a restaurant every night. Last (free) DDP trip we had tons of credits leftover. It wasn't a big deal since it was free but if I had paid for it I would have been mad at myself for doing so. We actually like eating in. For our 7 day trip we have reservations for dinner at the Plaza and the Rose and Crown and one breakfast at Boma. That's pretty typical for a non-DDP trip for us.

Now I just have to figure out how to do this in a tent!

What is it called?

This one is the Lewis & Clark Fold & Go Camp Kitchen. Coleman has a Camp Kitchen that is similar but twice as much. These were sold at Sam's last summer but when I went to purchase it, it was sold out so I got our's from an online store, can't remember where now. But I saw Ebay has some new in box at a lower price (well, for now).

Yep, we were once camping snobs too, but the Fort will change that . We used to camp with the bare minimum mostly primitive but now when we camp at the Fort, we take out three seats in our mini-van and still carry a luggage carrier on top. The trick is packing it. DH has it down to a fine art so I just let him do it and I stay out of the way
