Sesame Place or Dutch Wonderland?

I had season passes to Seasme the last 2 years. (we switched to Dorney this year which is another GREAT park)
I never could understand people making a "big trip" to go to Sesame. For me, it was great, not to far away to run over for the evening or a part day. my 3 and 6 yr old like almost every thing there, the shows were cute and they have alot of special events. My older one was in the parade, it really made her day! We had 30 min with ALL the characters before the parade started and had tons of interaction with them and only 12 families were there. PM me and I'll give you the secret spot to getting in the parade.

We considered it a "playground" rather than an amusement park since there are only a few rides total. It really depends on When you go, week days are better, before 3rd week of June is better than later in the summer and Fall is nice, they do a nice Halloween event. Stay away from Pasport member event days, they are crazy crowded. they have a free friend day that is nuts!

Alot of locals use it as their pool, spending all day in the water areas. I did see the "element" that was mentioned in PP. we just avoided it when we saw it and didn't go a busy times. I always felt safe there, I always try to be "aware" of things around me but could relax enough to enjoy myself. It is a nice park when it is not crowded. I love walking down Sesame Street and listening to all the familiar songs. You can even bang on Oscars trash can to see if he is home.

If you go, do the 2 days and you'll be able to see all the shows, (there are 3-4 depending on the day),
see the parade (usually at 3:00 and sometimes one later if it is open late, sit near the entrance of the park, the parade starts behing the lockers there and you can get on the roller coaster right after or on the oposite side you can go to the water rides with little lines)
and do rides (there are about 6 dry rides) during the parade time the next day.
You'll be able to relax more and let the kids really play. Mine could spend an hour just in the rope climb and on the slides. You can leave and go someplace else for a break and lunch or dinner and then go back. there are TONS of places to eat outside the park, it is next to a mall! Also, I think it is a Sheraton right across the street from the entrance road and they do a package of some sort. there is a Dine with Me experience in the park, breakfast was ok and you are in the park before it opens.

If your kids are into Sesame, Elmo etc... it is very cute and I would take them to see it once. I have some great shots of my girls hugging Elmo, Zowie and Rosita. they have some great memories too.

You will love it there. Great place and only 15 minutes from my house.

Thanks for everyone's thoughts. We'll be down there camping and to see the area including Thomas at the Strausburg railroad. I guess we'll play it by ear.

Thanks Again!:flower3:

Camping will be sooo fun! I just can't convince my husband to camp with our little ones...ours are 3 and 6! He thinks they are too young! Maybe next year!

Dutch Wonderland is the better of the two. They have a mini rollercoaster and adult/kiddie water slides(dry clothes type). I prefer it over sesame place.

How about Hershey Park vs Dutch. We are staying at WV...maybe 40 min from Hershey park. Dutch is closer.....I'm just not sure which...The Hershey tickets come with the package...but now I am thinking ...do I really need them??? We are only staying 2 nights....not sure how my napping 3 yo will do after 2 no nap days at WV...then to go to an amusment park the next day! I am sure it will all work out!

Out of the two, I'd have to pick Dutch Wonderland, but I, too would certainly vote for Knoebels. You can usually either get a wristband or just get tickets, and if you don't go on many rides, you don't have to waste money just to get into the park.
I'm not sure where to stay there, either. If you camp, they have their own campground. I've stayed there, and it was nice- right beside the park.

You could use Sesame passes for SeaWorld in Florida???

We had season passes to Sesame Place a few years ago, and went about half a dozen times (my kids were 8, 5, and 3 at the time). Without the water attractions, there's not much else to do. A few rides, but not worth the admission price.

However, the season passes were a great idea for our family at that time, because that year we drove to Florida and used the passes at both Sea World and Busch Gardens, Tampa. And, on the way home to PA, we used them again to gain admission to Busch Gardens, Williamsburg.

Dutch Wonderland is a good choice because it has both a water park and "dry" rides.

Knoebels has been a family favorite for years. It's a must-do attraction any time we are in the pocono mountains area.

If you only have a 3 year old the definitly go to DUtch!

Hi Daisy1234! Here's some info on SP for you and anyone else who's interested.

I went to Sesame place this year for the 1st time for Mother's Day with our 3 1/2 year old and our 15 month old. It was Fantastic, not crowded at all and very clean. I think the trick is to go early in the season (or maybe late). The water rides were open, but it was too cold for them (about 65-70 degrees) so nobody was going on them. There was plenty to do even though the water rides were closed. The park was open 10-5 and we got there before they opened for breakfast with Elmo (you have to make reservations and pay ahead of time). The food was nothing special and a little greasy, but we got to take pictures and interact with just about all the Sesame Characters in that short time frame. The characters were great with the kids. We saw several shows and the parade and went on most of the rides a few times (no waits) and to the play areas. Even our 15 month old got to do several rides. The crowds must not hit until the warm weather does!

So, if you want to try Sesame, I'd say to aim for early or late in the season. Our experience was so wonderful we'll probably go again this year as we got the 2 day pass.

We stayed at the Sheraton across the street. Got a good rate ($139) at the last minute off their website. Overall it was a good hotel (maybe not the best Sheraton ever, but good for what we paid) with very helpful staff, though we did let them know about small problems with the room. They were nice enough to credit our Starwood card with bonus points. The free shuttle to SP was helpful and the heated indoor pool was nice and fun! We'll stay there again, too!

Let me know if you have any questions!

does anyone know of any coupons/discounts for Dutch Wonderland and hershey? We are going to both next week and I need to start looking into this.

thanks.

As a family we do both of these. We have season passes for Dutch Wonderland and plan to try to go once a month. DD loves this place - the rides are really geared to her age group (3 year old). We also make a trip to Sesame Place for Father's Day. I found it to be really clean and truly enjoyed everything about it.

It has been years since we were at SP, my oldest is 16 and we used to take her every year. We all loved it. Clean/freindly/family oriented then. Like I said she was maybe 6 the last time we were there. I have actually told people about it recently and how nice it was. Now I will rethink after reading the PP. Dutch Wonderland is a very cool, laid back park for the kids. We have gone and stayed in hotels and camped both were fun and the park is small enough for the little ones that they can actually walk it. I am not sure how far you want to travel. We went to Kennywood last year. Very nice, no too expensive & clean. It is in PA, north/ west of Pittsburgh. The kids coud get on rides over and over. We do travel during the week and avoid all parks etc. on the weekends. Enjoy whatever you decide to do.

When are you going to Day Out with Thomas?

We are seeing Thomas on Monday June 16th. I think Day out with Thomas is from June 13th - June 22nd. We will be camping at Old Mill Campground which is next to DW.
Glad to hear some more positive reviews of Sesame Place. We hope to have a great time, being away from home and work is always a good time!!!!

We were a little disappointed with this last time we went. The ride was VERY short and a little over-rated (pay vs. what you get).

We have done it before here in New Hampshire and I agree it is a little bit pricey for the 20 minute ride. My son loves trains and Thomas. This is the only one I know of that is actually a real steam train. We haven't bought tickets yet, we will again play it by ear. We plan on going to the train museum in the area as well.

I don't even think ours was a 20 minute ride...

Does anyone know of any discounts for Dutch Wonderland? We are thinking of going the week of 4th of July for a couple of days.
