Have the servers who are moving to the new ship already left the old ships? Last year when we sailed the MR in January the wait staff was made up of a lot of new staff. Actually, the whole ship had a lot of new people and the results were not always great. We sail the MR in 2 weeks... are we going to be experiencing this again?

We sailed on 12/29 and our server was leaving for the Fantasy after the 1/3/2012 cruise. There was a lot of training going on both the ship and on Castaway Cay.

We sailed on the Wonder 5/31 and the wait staff had not improved by then, IMO.

I don' think your cruise will be effected by a change in staff; you might have some trainee's on board being shadowed. You can always try requesting an experienced server on the Wonder, a DIS member can mostly likely make recommendations.

*Wow-as per the post above mine, servers are already leaving for the Fantasy? Isn't the sailing a good month or so away?

Surprised they are leaving so soon for the Fantasy. We go on the Fantasy on June 16tth 2012 we can't wait. We have friends going with us who have never been on a cruise. She is a single Mom with two sons we can't wait to see their faces the 1st time they see the ship.

We were just on the Dream and learned that many of those leaving for the Fantasy are doing so on the 29th January.

They're going to Bremerhaven to help get the ship ready to roll out. I'm told there's some heavy lifting and shifting involved, but I'm sure it's mostly putting stuff away and finishing touches and LOTS of training for new CMs.

I was on the Dream in December and there had been a lot of CM changes. I don't think will be as back as the Dream with the training curse, but I really did notice the customer service a little of on the Maiden Voyage and then our December cruise. Part of growing pains.:)

Grr- we are on the January 29 MR!! I certainly hope the servers I have requested are still on board. We loved our Palo server and my kids loved our dining room server so we put in 2 requests.
I will not let this wreck my vacation though. (repeating over and over and over to convince myself!!)

Serves have been moved to Germany in stages....some left in December, some are leaving this month on a staggered schedule.

I don'tthink it is too early at all.....they need to get in the groove, mesh with their fellow crew and I am shore there is much shoreside training and helping out to get the ship ready.

That's the date of my cruise, I hope the team I requested is staying on the ship.
I thought that given the amount of weeks between my cruise and the launch of the Fantasy that we would avoid the growing pains.

Fortunately, our sailing doesn't seem to be too full which I hope will offset the inexperience of new CM's since they might not have as big of section on a full sailing.

Pun intended? :lmao:

I agree, there is a lot to do on the new ships. Our head server on the Dream in August came from the Magic. He said they take the ship out and run without the stabilizers to see how the ship reacts to rough seas. He told us they had to replace almost all of the dishes from the kitchens because they kept falling and breaking.

There is so much for the CMs to learn on the new ships. The systems/kitchens, etc. are all different than those on the Wonder and Magic, so if you are moving CMs who have only been on those ships, they have a lot to learn (even just the layout of the ship).

We hope Cedomir will be on the Fantasy! We couldn't ask for a better head server!

We deal with life-threatening food allergies and need a very experienced team of servers for safety reasons. I hope someone will have a good recommendation before our cruise in May.

My niece works in Youth Activities and is home right now...she leaves for the Fantasy on Jan. 30th.

Ha, ha....nope just brain freeze!!

We are following our server Dwight "from Jamaica" to the Fantasy. He was the best server we have had so far.

Cedomir is on the Fantasy now. He left the Magic on 12/17 for a 3 week break, then to Germany. He has been promoted to head of dining room. PJ from Palo is also supposed to be reporting to the Fantasy...as is Nelson (food and beverage manager).

We are just off the 1-2-12 Wonder MR Cruise and our Palo server, Daniel from Italy, was leaving when we returned to port for a visit home and then to the Fantasy! He was great and we'll look forward to seeing him when we sail in June! :dance3:

We just got off the Wonder on Sunday, and a number of servers were ending their contracts. Petar from Serbia (in Palo) and Robin (Cruise staff) from Orlando were both finishing their contracts (but coming back to the Wonder), as well as our server Tobias from Brazil (who wasn't coming back).

Our previous server from the Magic (Leasa from Jamaica) was also on the Wonder, and she was moving to the Fantasy-- she said we'd see here there next January. Also, Zan (head server) and Anna-Marie (Palo), who were on the Magic last January and on the Dream in August, were considering moving to the Fantasy but hadn't decided as of then. At the time, Anna-Marie told us that for the Dream they flew over to Germany and sailed the TA with the new ship and did things like paint and lay carpet, etc. to finish off the ship-- a lot of manual labor, not a lot of "training". ;)

Seems like there is generally a lot turnover--not sure if it is the time of year, the new ships, or if it's just rolling, and it's the nature of having ~1000 x 3 crew members.

Cedomir was our head server in November '10 on the Magic, and he did a great job managing our daughter's multiple food allergies. Prior to sailing with her, we didn't have much involvement with our head server, but it was great to have him working with us the whole week.

Our head server on the Dream last January was not good at all, but we had developed a relationship with one of the chefs, so we just talked to him and didn't even involve the head server in our food decisions. It was much easier that way.

Tomislav, Sutas and Ivo (and his wife) who were basically a "serving team" on the Dream are on holidays right now but will be bringing the Fantasy home and staying with that crew for now.
