Seriously considering DVC

. Must be saving that for the "Glengarry Glenross" moment in the DVC office :lmao:

Sorry a little off topic

"Glengarry Glen Ross" moment. What a great movie, but from what I hear this is not how Disney works.

Favorite Quote from movie: [Blake]Your name is "you're wanting", and you can't play the man's game, you can't close them, and then tell your wife your troubles. 'Cause only one thing counts in this world: get them to sign on the line which is dotted.

We purchased AKV 200 points in June and were told that the DD would be ending end of summer. We chose the discount over the points as that we knew we would not be back in the next year.

In fact, now kind of kicking ourselves in the butt for purchasing at all. Husband hurt is back and is not working.... figuring out what to do now. Going to go more into this under another thread - just trying to figure out where!!! New to the board, trying to figure my way around here :offtopic: -- I know!
Thanks,
Deb

If you get 500 points the first year can you use the xtra-250 to reserve at your home unit-guaranteed? Or will they only accept the 250 11 months ahead and you have to ewait ttill the 7 month period to use the xtra 250.

It's all dependant on what is available. You can get a reservation at any DVC resort with those points within the booking deadlines as long as there is availability. IF all rooms are booked and there is "no room in the inn", you might find you are limited. I believe you have normal booking windows with them (11 months home, 7 months non-home), but anytime after those windows open up as long as there is availability.

It's official!!! WE ARE DVC OWNERS!!!!!! WE called our guide on sat morning and boy, did we make him VERY Happy....

I can;t wait to go back!! I think we are looking at october!!

Thank you for everyone's help!!

Congratulations and welcome home. You made your guide happy and he made you happy. It's the perfect win/win situation.

Just one bit of advice I wish i had gotten prior to purchase. Buy the minimum points to get in, then do small add on contracts to get to the points total you desire. In the event you need/want to sell in the future it makes it much easier to sell several small contracts rather than sell one large one. Just something to consider. good luck and enjoy your new home:goodvibes

This is great advice and is what we will be doing. We have scheduled our tour for Sunday 9/9/07. After giving it a lot of thought, I am not too concerned about the DD points if the inceentive lapses by then. It is a "nice to have", not a "must have" after all.

This way we can get the initial contract paid off quickly and plan properly for "adult onset add-on-it-is" LOL.

Thanks again to all on this board. The advice has been excellent. I will give an update from DW mid next month and hope to have some knowledge I can share.

Regards,

We did the tour at SSR on Thursday 9/13.

To make sure we made an informed decision on our buy, we stayed at AKL for the week and also walked the grounds intensively at SSR.

We went with SSR and think this will be the best home resort for us as the years pass on. The rooms are so light and airy. We also like the spread out feel to the resort (as long as we have bikes and a rental car of course). 5 bus-stops.......yikes! the lower maintenance fees did play a part too.

DD points were not offered. Just single points or the 10$pt discount. However, we did get 2006 & 2007 points & the use year we wanted. They will let us bank them all for 2008 also. This is a lot of points to use for 2008. sure hope it isn't difficult to book a GV at SSR at my 11mo.......

Thanks again for the info you offered. It helped us make the right choice.

Now, I will wait impatiently for them to offer the Mexican Riviera DVC. :thumbsup2 I can feel a case of addonitis coming on strong.

Welcome home! We went with SSR too when hubby and I bought in March. We love it, definitely see us using it long term and not getting sick of it. We love the upscale decor of the rooms, and the beauty of the buildings, plus the location near DTD. Enjoy!!:cool1:

I stayed at AKL in a regular room, not AKV. We had a savannah view room but not a villa. I did tour the AKV suites at SSR. My impressions from the tour were the AKV suites had substantial improvements over SSR. Flat screen TV w/DVD ,extra bathrooms & that extra sleeper chair for starters. The rooms were very dark though. I understand that is part of the theme for AK but it just didn't fit us. I have to say, if AKV is anything like AKL as far as theming goes, it is going to be a great success. We loved our visit there and will continue to visit there from time to time but it will not be our home resort.

Also, the savannah view turned out to be somewhat underwhelming for us. We spent very little time on our balcony watching the animals. Perversely, both of our sons generally wanted to look at animals from public viewing area.....coulda saved some $ there.......:confused3 I blame it on that darn Disney classics cartoon channel (No 96) that plays the same 6 Disney cartoons over and over and over again. Somebody, somewhere needs to give them a few more cartoons to run :rotfl:

The SSR rooms were easier on the eyes to us. AKV rooms are quite dark. The SSR rooms were very light. It looked like home to us, so we went with it.

Thanks for the response. I've never stayed at AK and was looking for some perspective comparing to SSR. I know what you mean about SSR rooms they do seem like you are home and not in a hotel room. If you get a chance try some of the other resorts (BCV & BWV) we like them equally as well as SSR, they have that same lightness you mention and the location to epcot & MGM is unique on disney property.

Enjoy your many years of DVC

Glad to see you took the plunge, WELCOME HOME!!! :cool1:
