Stayed at PO Riverside xmas thru new years and had a wonderful time despite the crowds. Our first trip back since son was 7 (now 15). We loved it then and even more now and we all want to live at WDW! Our son didn't remember much from his preschool and first grade trips so even as a teenager had the time of his life (we weren't too sure how much fun he'd have at this age)! So did mom and dad!

So of course we had to stop in for DVC info. We are considering SSR for the 50 (as opposed to a resale) years as we would like to perhaps share it with our son and his future family as well as other loved ones. He is all for it and wants us join so we can go back this summer. We've thought on it a few weeks now and are almost there. We think we need between 150-200 points

We are currently a family of three and would be utilizing most of the points just for us within the next 5-10 years. I do foresee my parents might join us (or perhaps a friend for son) occasionally. Though I know from this forum (very informative) that we can always add points on later, what do you suggest as a good starting number for our situation. At this time we are limited to about 10 nights or less per year for DVC.

Hoping to make the FINAL decision within a week or two!

Good luck with your decision. We dont have kids (yet) and absolutely love Disney, and plan on going as often as we can. We love the parks, but I can see spending some time down there just relaxing, playing golf, touring around Orlando - there is much to do on a vacation, so not everything would need to revolve around Disney every visit. Its a great atmosphere

As for your decision I would think with a Family of 3 with the possibility of other guests you would be looking at a 2 bedroom for most of your trips. If you were looking at going every year for up to 10 days - I think you will need at least the 200 pts.

If you would plan on going every other year - you could get away with the 150 and bank your points so you would have 300 pts to use every year.

hi bus lady,
we bought in nov. while we were there{180}pts for a
1 bed room. after coming home 1 day we called them back
to change to 255 pts for a 2 bedroom..we figure to get
what we need and want right from the beginning....

We bought at New Year at SSR. We bought just the minimum 150 points and have added points at other DVC resorts as an add on so we can have flexibility on choice of home resort.
Will you really want to go every year or is eporter66 right in that you could bank every other year and have 300 points in the alternate years.

With the age of your son, and his probably wanting to bring a friend, you are probably often going to need a 2BR. I would play with the points calculator here at the top of this page to see what points would be required for certain times of year. Banking and borrowing can make your points go further too. Good luck!

We just bought a SSR with a June use year. We were considering 150 at first but after doing some calculations and considering the time of year we would travel (I am in education, so I can only travel during the more expensive times) we decided we would increase to 200 to start. We can always add on later. Just do what you can afford to start and you can increase later on.

Thank you all for your suggestions. Especially about the points calculator up top...I didn't see that before and it's really handy. In working a few dates up it seems we'd need between150-180 most years as if we didn't go to WDW we would visit HH, VB or elsewhere using points. I think 180 might be a safe starting number knowing we can always add on. I'm assuming you use your allotted points within the use year, or bank them for the next, or you would lose them?

Also, we might pass SSR the first trip and try for OKW as I'm a little concerned about the "construction" that will be ongoing at our home resort thru 2005. We would also save some points staying there and I understand the rooms are a nice size. Has anyone ever stayed at their "home" when it was still being built and did you see/hear anything?

I also have to work around the school schedule for myself and my son. However, we most likely will not go back over xmas/new years as it was sooo crowded we really didn't see nearly all we wanted in 5 nights (even using fast pass), though we still had a great time. Most of our trips would be during the late August heat (son's travel baseball break) and early November (NJ teachers convention - no school). It seems a lot of southern states start school mid-August so hopefully it won't be too crazy down there at the end of August?

Thanks again to everyone who helped. I "discovered" this board a week or so ago and a lot of my questions and concerns have been answered. You've all really helped in our decision to become members. Now if our loan money would just arrive we could get the ball rolling!

Enjoy your vacations...hope to meet some of you in late August!
