Seriously? Compass Books gone and Starbuck's coming?

Um, I think you're all glossing over the most amazing fact in this article... that Earl of Sandwich might be coming to our Downtown Disney!!!!

I've seriously had dreams about this. Heck, I'd start making the hour and a half drive down there way more often just for a sandwich (and I already go at least once or twice a month).

Mmmm... Earl :cloud9:

Although I am sad about Compass Books closing. I always loved walking through there at the end of the day.

Well now I am kicking myself for not going into compass when we were just there at Christmas. I guess I am in the minority cause I cannot stand starbuck, then again I am Canadian and have that Tim's addiction going on.:lmao:

I agree with you MJ, not happy about Compass Books or Island Charters. It is not coffee any more, its coffee with addtives..like a fine steak with catsup.

Jack

Thank you! At least there are a few who agree with me. I feel the exact opposite of a pp - Starbuck's is last choice (although the syrup Dutch Bros. calls coffee is worse) while Peet's, the espresso at Compass and a bean I used to get from Italy are REAL espresso. Not the syrup, sugar, milk concoctions that people think are coffee.

Haagen Dasz says they have Peet's, at least for espresso drinks.

Yes, I remember someone (maybe you?) saying that in another thread. Problem is it's like getting Starbuck's at Safeway. The baristas aren't trained correctly at all. They are trained by (or not trained) and are employees of Safeway, not Starbuck's.

We have a Peet's on campus here and the students they employ do NOT know what they are doing. There is also a limited choice of drinks. Just the basic ABC's. So I don't hold high hopes for the Peet's at Haagen Dazs. I could give it a try once on our trip. But if Compass is still there we will be patronizing them.

Sad about Compass Books. It's one of my favorite places in DTD. Their coffee used to be really good but the last few years have seen a definite decline in quality. It's the merchandise part I will miss, though. They had some great selections and very interesting things for all of my family members. My girls loved going there and often selected their one souvenir from Compass. For me, kindles et al will never replace real books, though I understand the appeal. I guess I have a rather romantic view of reading which includes a whole range of sensory experiences not found with a computer screen. I guess I ought to add that I am an English teacher so that might have something to do with my idiosyncrasies.

As for Starbucks, they're ok. I'm glad they'll be going in since I'm not at all fond of the yuck they offer up in the parks. I just hope they'll open before the parks so I can get a cup of coffee on my way in. If there's one thing I can't stand it's that swill you find in DLR that looks like they dipped a bean on a string in hot water a few times.

Well that's not good news. We haven't been for a few years so if they have changed the company they get their beans from or don't train their baristas well - that's too bad.
