Seriously cannot believe the prices at Southwest

Southwest prices tend to drop. The prices quoted when they open dates are high. Keep an eye on them though. Also subscribe to DING. You can get super low prices.

I have found the opposite to be true. Last year I purchased tickets for $79 each way out of MDW the day fares were released and they didn't ever go lower. I purchased tickets for this September on 02/08/11 which was the day fares were released for $97 each way (Saturday flights) and I don't expect that to go down since the costs of flights seem to be skyrocketing.

They price differently at different airports. I saved $50/ticket when I waited to book.

Southwest is too expensive, even without bag fees. We only fly Southwest for leisure when we use my husband's business awards.

I guess it depends where you are. We've flown from MHT, BOS and PIT for $59/each way in the last 6 months-1yr. Our current tickets for this month were $69/each way from PIT. With the free bags and free change/cancellation, it's the best airline with all 5 of us...soon to be 6 traveling.

I'm also looking at air tix for our Sept 24~30 trip from PHL to MCO. The prices are around $550 for two and just scares me at this point.:scared1:

We live South Jersey and have Spirit Air (which I do not like but sometimes prices are great). Last year, we actually took Spirit to Disney since it was the half the price around $350 for three of us and they actually had early morning departure for arriving MCO and late afternoon departure for leaving.

Even their prices are around $500. Since we do have sometime, I'm going to wait and keep looking. Spirit tends to bring down the prices around 45 days before or so.....

If not we are seriously considering a long drive to WDW.:sad2:

$144 is for a one stop flight. I paid $102 for non stop arriving in Florida before 10am. Even if all 5 of us check bags, which we won't it will still be almost $80 cheaper to fly Delta. I live in Miller Place. Islip is so much more convienent but I want a direct flight. I am flying with my 2 boys who will be 6 and 3, along with my 12 yr old cousin and my hubby.

Yes I am going because I am a teacher and can swing almost a full week vacation only needing 2 days off.

I'm glad you found flights that work for your family. Southwest tries to charge more for flights which are more popular such as morning N/S flights. Some people book and hope to get a credit toward future flights or book the less desirable flights and hope to change their flights if discounted seats open up on the flights they want. I'm not sure I'd do that if I needed 5 tickets.

I don't know how you're getting to the airport. The increased cost for a car service to LGA vs ISP will more then offset your $80 savings. Hotels near ISP let you park for $6 day, no hotel stay required. It will probably cost twice that to park at LGA. The extra gas and parking cost will probably offset almost all of your savings.

You got flights that work for you. Flight times and non-stop service is worth something to you.

I'm looking for flights 10/8-10/10 from Providence RI. Quick trip to Food & Wine. I know it's Columbus day weekend but this price is crazy $ 475.00 round trip per person.
I used to always buy my flights 4 or 5 months in advance.. I've been waiting until a month before, and I havent paid over a $100 per person one way.

I've only ever flown Southwest.
I noticed that airfare to and from Chicago/Orlando always goes up the closer it gets to my trip dates.
We always go to WDW the end of September/beginning of October and the cheapest airfare is always when they first open up their schedule.
When I wait until a couple months before our trip, the fares are always higher.

I had to kind of chuckle (in a sad kind of way) when reading through this thread. It's always been expensive flying from Arkansas to MCO. Paying $300-$350 per ticket was the norm. Anything under that was just a bonus - and rare. It's close to $500 now - for one person! I'm trying to find airfare from Little Rock to Providence, RI in August. For two people, SWA wants $1200. It's unreal!

We are going Aug. 23rd- Sept 2nd. from Phila. Airport. The flights going just dropped to $99.00 but come home is is still $137-$183.:confused3 To high for me, when you are buying 4 tickets. I was just looking at USAir. They dropped to $99 going to. I'm going to wait a little longer and see what happens. With the problem SW just had I'm scared to buy tickets right now anyway. I might just give in and drive.:headache:

Any time I've checked SW's fares they've always been a lot higher than other carriers. When we originally looked for fares for our trip in 10 days :goodvibes, the fares from Philly to Orlando were well over $500! :scared1:

I seriously couldn't understand how other people found all these great fares. I think now that many of their planes are going to need maintenance, those fares are here to stay.

I'd kill for $99 down and $137 back. We're going Aug 26- Sept 3 from Islip, Long Island. The flights back on Sep 3, MCO to ISP, are $259-$277 (flights down are $144-$185). No flights either way have dropped since they released those dates.

Amen! I've been tracking airfare for trips in May and Sept from Houston to Orlando - it has kept steady at $380/per person - I remember the days when we paid $180 and that was only two years ago!
