The Chicago marathon ended in tragedy and sadness with a death and many athletes being hospitalized.
(I have only directed small in town 5K races so I really can't speak of how good or bad the race management there were. But it appears that they dropped the ball on some things. Maybe Robert will comment since he has a good bit of experience at race management.)
But it shows the serious side of our sport and puts it in perspective. We laugh and joke around alot, me probably to much, but long distance running and walking do have dangers.
We of the WISH team are a varied bunch, we come in all shapes and sizes, we come from varied backgrounds and we come from around the globe. But we share a desire to test ourselves, we are not comfortable with the bounds and limits we are supposed to adheare to.
For the last 2 years the Disney January events have tested our desire and our character. 2006 was freezing, 2007 was vertually the same as the Chicago conditions. Anyone who did one or both of those, deserves a big High Five. You took the best Mamma Nature could throw a you.
If you took on the challanges of 2006 and or 2007, stand and be recognized as an athlete and a warrior, can you say "Heck Yes I was there".
Some of you deserve extra credit for your courage, Cam who took a bad fall and still kept going. Linda who hurt her foot and still finished the Goofy. Many many stories of courage and desire, so many examples of toughness.
Train hard dear friends but train safe, in 19 days a lot of us will tow the line at ToT in a different kind of race. A race that will be a celabration of health and friendship and wicked good fun.
