Serious question about the coffee...

I'm hearing mixed reports about the coffee on the ship. Some say it's really good, and others say it's awful - more like instant coffee. Can someone please clarify this for me?

My dh is a coffee-a-holic. He drinks several cups every day and is very picky about his coffee and he HATES Nescafe' or any instant coffee. If it is instant, is there any way we can take our own coffee beans or is that totally out of the question?

Please advise...

My hubby is a total coffee addict (think Starbucks) who LIVES at the Deck 9 coffee station. He claims that the coffee used to taste "instant" but that it has vastly improved. I couldn't say personally because I make wonderful iced tea from the hot flavored teas in order to get my caffeine (they serve "tap" iced tea, which I cannot stand, so making my own is the only way I can survive).
Also, hubby claims that a cappucino at Palo is quite good...again, I can't speak from personal experience as I want nothing to get in the way of my chocolate souffle.

I say the coffee is great! Especially when room service delivers it a 6:45 am in a caraffe and glass mugs with pastries, and you didn't even have to put in your contacts in so that you could go to deck 9 and get your coffee from the big stand in a styrofoam cup.

I love my coffee also.

I like the coffee that's served in the restaurants on board, even Topsiders, it's very good and tastes very close to what is served at WDW, which I like. I tried the cappucino at Palo's too, and it was the best that I can remember having. I've had the espresso that's served in the dining rooms and it was good too, but not spectacular.

I had cappucino and other specialty coffees served in Promenades and at Sessions and didn't like them as much as at Palo's.

The only 'not great' comment I have is that on our January cruise on the Magic, the room service coffee for breakfast wasn't great but it was still in the Ok range. It wasn't that consistent morning after morning, but still good, maybe just because it was delivered.

I liked the coffee from the beverage station on deck 9 and almost every evening before retiring, I would fill my drink mug with the decaf brew and go back and sit on our Veranda and make sure the ocean was still Ok, which I found very relaxing. Both coffees from the deck 9 beverage station were good and they were consistent through out the entire week. They don't have a timer on them like at Starbucks but I never found them to taste very old.

By the way, my current favorite coffee is from the Krispy Kreme Doughnut Shop. You can buy a bag of the coffee either in beans or they'll grind it for you.

I was also concerned about coffee before our cruise. However, I found it to be just fine. According to Chef Winston, on the galley tour, all coffee is 100% Columbian. No, it's not Starbucks, but my coffee at 6:30am while watching the sunrise from the Quiet Cove jacuzzi...it was just fine! My only complaint was that I never got a second cup of coffee at dinner.
