Serious Knee Pain

So I've been working out since the November of last year, taking spin classes, lifting weights, running. I even participated in the princess half marathon. No big issues.

Well yesterday I decided to take a long bike ride with DH. We ended up riding 40 miles in 4 hours. I was fine until it was time to sleep last night - that is when the pain started. Serious "I want to cry" pain. The crazy thing is, it isn't the normal muscle pain where you can stretch to feel better. This is just flat out please cut off my legs pain.

When I woke up I walked around a bit, did some yard work and was happy because the pain seemed to mostly be gone. Well it is back and in full force. Sitting seems to make it worse!!!

I was thinking about waking up tomorrow (assuming I can sleep tonight) and going for a long walk since moving is better then sitting still. The only problem is I do not want to do any more damage.

Any ideas to what I did or what is wrong with me??? If so, how can I fix it??

Thanks!
nat

Where exactly on your knee does it hurt? Sometimes knee pain isn't a knee problem, but an itb problem. No matter what you probably want to see someone. Hang in there.

The pain could very well be tendonitis. DW had bad knee pain start during last year's Space Coast 1/2M. Thought it was ITB but Dr. visit determined it was tendonitis.

You should see Dr. and not self diagnose.

You mentioned a 40 mile bike ride. Was it hilly, did you use too hard a gear, did you pedal with more pressure than other times, was this the longest ride in a long time, was there lots of wind you were heading into??????

All around my knee cap.

Hilly - yes
longest ride in a long time - first ride of the year, longest I have ever done in my life.
Wind - yes

Plus I found out that my seat wasn't at the correct hight.

My knees feel a bit better now, the pain seems to have moved down into my shins. Not sure what that means. I'm happy that I can now stand with out reaching for pain killers.

I'm going to take it easy this week and hope the pain stays away!!!

Thanks for the comments. I don't think I'm ready to go and see a doctor yet.

Take things easy and get back slowly.:thumbsup2

I had a feeling that your answers would be what you wrote and the seat adjustment just added to the aggravation. That many revolutions of the pedals/cranks with a ride like you did could very easily over stress all muscles. Like walking, jogging or running long distances, bicycling long distances should be undertaken with caution. Build up slowly and you can join me in one of my 165 to 200 mile Saturday bike rides. Of course you will have to commit to getting out on the road by 2:00AM with this 60yo geezer.

Very Impressive!!! My DH raced mountain bikes when he was younger and now wants to get into the longer mileage races. He's going to be so jealous when I tell him about your Saturday rides!!!

I feel a bunch better!!! Think I may be able to sleep tonight. :thumbsup2
