I have a question for you long time DVC'ers after reading these post I'd like to know ..........

1- How many contracts do you have currently?

2- How many contracts have you bought and sold over the years?

Thanks Just curious to know as I try to make my decision on buying through DVC for first time or going through resale

We knew in 92 what we wanted. We bought one contract for 2000 points. That's it. Did not want to buy more or sell any of it. It meets our needs. Now that grandchildren are coming though, we may think about buying somewhere, however, I think it will be a resale. Just be careful on the resales....

We've been owners since early 2000. We bought 300 points at Boardwalk which we felt suited our needs. We offered points to my in-laws once and found they loved Vero Beach. So when we had the opportunity in late 2002 to add on at the same price we paid for Boardwalk we added on 100 points there. We've never sold our points and don't have any plans to. We are happy with the points we have now and I don't see us doing any add ons either.

Not sure if I'm a "serious DVCer". Actually, I hate being serious, and can only put up the serious facade for a short while.
I'm also not a long time DVCer; only since 2002.
Gee, I'm starting to wonder why I responded to this thread?? :teeth:

Anyway, to answer your Q's-

1) Six
2) Bought six, sold zero

Good luck with your decision! :smokin:

DVC is a great value, but only if you stay at the Disney resorts and only if you purchase the amount of points you use.

We purchased 5 contracts through resale. Currently in the process of selling some.

We have been owners since 2002. Bought 350 VWL points in 2002 and 230 OKW points in 2005. We've never regretted the purchase and don't have any plans to add on more or sell.

Member since 2000. Originally bought Vero then added on at VWL. Sold Vero and replaced it with SSR. Never went to Vero so it didn't make sense to pay those dues and deal with the 7 month booking window at WDW.

I have 0 intentions of ever selling our current contracts. In fact after staying at BCV right now I am thinking about an add on here, this is a real gem among DVC resorts.

We have purchased 3 contracts direct from DVC. We hope we never have to sell any of them.

Debbie, just curious - why the warning about resales??? Other than the possibility of ROFR, there's no problem with buying a resale that I am aware of. I bought one contract from Disney, and one contract resale. Both were equally easy and both work exactly the same. Did you have a different experience??

We bought our first contract at SSR about a year ago.
We did an add on contract at SSR just this week.

I prefer to go through Disney myself. There is so much less hassle (IMO). We had looked very seriously at resale prior to buying our first contract, but it truly had many more "pieces" to deal with.

With Disney, it was literally a phone call, a deposit made by CC, papers arrived. We signed the papers, and we were completely done. The points we purchased were in our account less than 24 hours after making the CC deposit.

Disney takes care of all of the closing costs. If you need to finance, they also take care of that. I also like the fact that the time it takes to get into their system is sooo much faster (less than 24 hours). We actually had made our first reservation before our paperwork even arrived. With resales it is definately not that fast.

Although, you may save some money with a resale, and if you want a specific resort that Disney doesn't have inventory in, and you are not in a hurry, then resales are probably for you.

We have 4 contracts - all at OKW

1st was 230, 2nd +50, 3rd +50, 4th +150

We have never sold any and have been very happy with all our points at OKW. We plan to keep them all too, even though we are building in Celebration and plan to move there.

We bought two 250 point contracts last year and don't ever plan on selling them but we will pass the on to our neice and nephew.

Owned since late '03. Have bought 6 different times, 4 from Disney (BWV and VWL) and 2 resales (VB and VWL). Total of 550 points, and we don't envision selling any.

I have 2 boardwalk contracts. 1 was through Disney and the other was a resale. I saved a little bit throught the resale(well, not really because the cost was a few dollars more by then), but it was a bit tense wondering if it would go through rofr. I also factored in the closing and it didn't come out to much difference. My sister went through 2 rofr's and both were bought back and they seemed to be a little higher priced and we were very surprised at that. It took her months before she finally got one, but she almost gave up, but I told her to wait it out. There is no way to be sure what gets bought back and what doesn't. You go right through Disney and you don't have these issues and you can also plan your vacations almost immediately after commitment ,where you need to wait aprox. 7 weeks after you offer (rofr, closing and into Disney's system)and then longer if it gets bought back by Disney.I hope this helps.

We have 2 contracts at BWV bought through Disney. They may have been rolled into one contract as they are the same use year - total 300 points. We also have 150 points at OKW bought at resale. We feel we have it just about right for us.

Purchsed VWL in 2000 from Disney and BCV in 2002 from Disney. Both were 1/2 down and payments for 1 year-so easy.

We've never bought a resale, however, I noticed on some of the sites that you buy them but points are already used. If I would buy a resale, I would want to make sure that all the points are available. I saw one resale that the points were not available until 2007. Other than that, I'm sure it would be a good value to buy resale.

Actually I was told if points were not available right away that those contracts were sold at a lower price. Plus buying a resale is a way for some people to get into a resort that is already sold. If we were to rebuy we would want to buy at BWV so a resale would be the only way to go. We have absolutely no interest in SSR.

OKW 220 in 1997 BCV 150 presale SSR 150 presale - Absolutely no intention of selling unless financial sdisaster makes it necessary.

We bought a contract at OKW with a September Use Year in 1997 from Disney for 200 points. We bought a second contract at OKW with an October Use Year in 2002 via resale through The Timeshare Store for 230 points. The first one we financed and paid off in about 3 years. The second one we paid cash for.

These are the only contracts we have ever bought.

We are pretty sure that these are all the points we'll need. We would not sell them in unless we were in a case of extreme financial hardship.

A word about buying points. There are some who would recommend not buying one contract with a huge number of points, but to buy several smaller contracts which would equal the # of points you would want. In the event you had to sell, smaller contracts are easier to sell, and if you had multiple contracts, you could potentially sell one and keep the other(s).
