Is it ever an issue to find a few nice loungers under an umbrella at SB? I know that the family beach got very crowded when we were there... If we were to play at the family beach in the morning and then head over to SB would it be tough to find a nice spot?

We've never had a problem finding an umbrella. 5 times there. Sometimes you may need to walk down the beach a bit, but there's plenty of loungers/umbrellas.

It won't be tough, although I wouldn't exactly call the loungers "nice." Standard weatherproof sturdy beach chairs and adjustable loungers. In our experience (lots of visits there), there are generally umbrellas and recliners available throughout the day somewhere on the beach. As you walk, look to the right all the way back to the hedge border, there are often seats there and it will save you walking too far.

Serenity Bay is very nice. My wife and I spent some time there on our cruise in June. It's very peaceful compared to the family beach. Just keep in mind that there are more shark sightings at Serenity Bay than at the family beach. However, your chances of being viscously attacked by a shark at Serenity Bay are very low. Have a great cruise!

Even the chance of seeing a shark in the water with me will keep me on the FB side for my cabana! I'll pay the extra for the protected water of the family beach and take my chance by tram for lunch at SB

Does anyone know if there is a waiting list for cabanas on Castaway Cay? We have a 5-year-old, so we'd be looking for one on the family beach. I was hoping to reserve one, but having never done this before and depending on a travel agent to help me (who didn't), I was too late. Thanks!

We have been many, many times to SB and we have never encountered a line at the SB BBQ. We were there 5 times this summer alone and thankfully never a line. I'm not saying it doesn't happen but it doesn't appear to me to be a troublesome problem.

Also, if heat bothers you, I don't suggest walking from the 2nd tram stop to SB. I have seen many people, me included, that got over heated. That runway is long and hot.

Chairs are plentiful even with the larger ships holding more guests. Umbrellas are a bit more hard to find if you get there late. Sometimes hammocks are very scarce.

In July, they were handing out towels two at a time. We definitely made use of them so don't worry about asking for two.

As you leave the ship they hand out towels and it's worth grabbing some. The first time we were on Castaway Key we went to Serenity Bay and it was so quiet I was bored (!). This time we stopped at the family beach where we grabbed a setup under an umbrella and in the treed area. This way we stayed out of the sun almost until 2p. Plus it's so much fun to grab the chair to sit in the water watching all the kids playing - so restful when their not yours
