Serendipity3 Review ???

We are headed to NYC for the day in Dec. We will be eating lunch, dinner and seeing the Rockettes Christmas show. I have heard interesting things about this restaurant but my mom says she doesn't want to go anywhere so loud we can't visit.

So, is this a place that has decent food and not so loud that we can't visit with each other during the meal???

If it isn't can anybody recommend a restaurant that would be?

Hey zurgswife,

this probably isn't the best choice for a "visit" kind of place. First off, it IS noisy, and sometimes there is a line, there are lots of kids, etc. Serendipity3 is better known for their desserts--sundaes and frozen hot chocolate, etc, than a full meal.

So, are you just looking for a snack-type place for after the show, or is this a place you were considering for one of your meals?

Thanks for the advice. We are looking for two places one for a light lunch and one for an early dinner..5pm. Sounds like serendipity isn't the right choice.

Any suggestions that wouldn't be a long distance from Radio City?

You won't be too far from Times Square, which has lots of places. Lots of chain places, but there are some non-chain choices. They are good at getting you out in time for your show too. One place we've been to that was pretty good is Bluefin, in the W Times Square hotel.

Sorry I don't have more suggestions for you--we usually go down to Greenwich Village or Chelsea when we eat out in NYC.

If you are looking for a white tablecloth place close to Radio city, China Grill does asian fusion. I think Bobby Flay's Bar Americain is also close by. There are also some nice deli/sandwich shops. I think an Au Bon Pain is right across the street on the 6th Ave.

If you are heading down to Times Square area, Ruby Foo is not too noisy if you seat away from the sushi bar and close to the windows. Virgil's BBQ is quieter on the upstair. In fact, if you go for an early dinner, any restaurants in the area should be not too noisy. Cosi is another sandwich/salad place that has several locations in mid-town. I love their salads. Of course there are many small ethnic restaurants, but the places I mentioned here have websites you can check out.
