Welcome to the September 2024 WISH thread!

Happy to have you join us as we enter a new season!

We're a group of dis-ers of all ages and geographic locations who are here to support and encourage each other in our healthier living goals. Whether you are looking to exercise more, lose weight, eat better, work on self-care or any other healthy living goal, please join us!

We have weekly volunteer hosts and typically follow a Monday-Sunday format:
MOTIVATION MONDAY - TOPIC TUESDAY - WOOHOO WEDNESDAY - THANKFUL THURSDAY - FREE FOR ALL FRIDAY - SOCIAL SATURDAY - SELF-CARE SUNDAY

Ha ha… what’s chasing me is that it is now just under three weeks till vacation and I’ve done very little to get physically ready. The panic should get me going. I hope.

Yesterday on the whale boat we saw an orca family then a humpback. I got to see humpbacks in Alaska last year but this is the first time locally. They said he is very boat friendly and did come up quite close several times.

This morning I misread the tide chart and rushed out of the house at 7:45 to get down to the beach at low tide, but when there the water really wasn’t out that far so I checked again… low tide is really at 10am, so I’m having breakfast first. It is misty damp this morning, hopefully some of it will burn off by 10am.

The rest of the day will be spent cleaning house and getting myself organized.

Not sure what my motivation is right now. Work is going to get stressful pretty soon so I guess I need to be motivated to move to combat the stress snacking to come. Did take the kids to the aquarium today so that was a decent walk.

If everyone wants to sign up for a week I’ll update post 2 😊

Catching up from Saturday!!!!!

Our cookout went great and we finished up literally within seconds of the rain starting which was great!! DS1 and family were obviously not able to make it so I took food to them and got to visit with the baby…she’s just so precious!!

Sunday was church, a training for Sunday school volunteers after and then I came home and deep cleaned my closet! Got 4 garbage bags full of clothes going to DS2 girlfriend and then on to her mom!

Unfortunately I woke up sick today, sore throat and body aches. I went and walked dogs form 8-10am this morning and only got worse while I was there. I am resting now.

I am motivated to get back on track with my eating starting tomorrow…this weekend has been awful for me!!! Too much good picnic food and leftovers!!

Topic Tuesday - Are you good about asking for help when you need it so that you can tend to your own health?
No. I am horrible at asking for help. I usually run myself ragged. DH and I talked about it this weekend. I so wanted to do all the stuff we had planned but DH told me I needed to rest. I spent the whole weekend on the couch with a cough that just kept getting worse. I did go the the doctor this morning. I have a sinus infection and now on an antibiotic. Hopefully I start to feel better quickly.

I think I've gotten better at asking for help, when I realize I need it. But I'm not always timely with that recognition, like it usually has to get pretty far along before I do something. It can also take me some time to connect the response with the correct cause, so I know what help to ask for.

Really depends what I need help with…if it’s something related to like the kids or work I will often ask for help before I get to the point of overwhelmed. If it’s something related directly to me I am not great at asking for help until I get to the point of mental shut down…need to work on balancing those things out.

I can take the week of the 16th

I was gone over the weekend. DH, DS and I went to NYC to watch our team play the Yankees. It was such a fun weekend! It gave me my motivation for the next couple of months before our next trip though. I HAVE to start doing some kind of exercise / intentional physical activity. Our first full day there, we walked over 10 miles and day 2 we walked about 6. We eased up after that, but I'm still recovering today!

I know that's a lot, but it affected me a lot more this trip than on any heavy walking trip in the past. At one point, we were getting up to leave somewhere and DH bumped into me. He said "why did you stop?" - I said I didn't stop, I just haven't started lol! It took me awhile every time I stood up to actually get going.

Woohoo... going to Pilates two times a week is starting to show progress. Now I need to remember to do some at home once or twice a week as well.

Woohoo... my hair is not green. I decided I didn't want the lavender while I was on vacation, so went in yesterday to have the color lifted. I'm not sure why she didn't just dump bleach on it, but with multiple applications of different products it went thru multiple shades of green, until the very end when she was able to neutralize it with pink. It's now a light blonde, which is good enough. No more messing around with color for a while.

WooHoo - it is Wednesday - this holiday weekend really threw me off for some reason this time! I think with it being the beginning of a new month too or something!

My WooHoo is that we had a somewhat major (definitely very inconvenient) problem crop up in July and we were able to work through it all in August and now that the new month has started, it looks like everything is back to normal, so we can move on from the problem that we created!

Although it's never good to cause a problem, sometimes it just shows you that you can work through just about anything and keep going!

Whoooooohooo due to the cooler temps I have worn pants multiple days in a row and they all fit…I had to put on a belt today for the first time since probably April and I was too big!!! So I have not lost weight according to the scale but maybe an inch or two here and there!!!

Whooooohooooo super short week for me-3 days!!!
