September/October 2009 Dining Reviews - Updated 11/1

When is your next trip? Have you decided on where you're staying? When can you make ADRs?
Haven't booked it yet, but I want to go in the spring for the Flower and Garden Festival. I'm hoping to get a pin code, if not, I'll be waiting for AP rates.

Sauteed diver scallop on hearts of palm and peeky toe crab relish with grapefruit scotch bonnet mojo. Made by Dominique Macquet from Dominique's on Magazine in New Orleans, Lousiana.

This was good, the scallop was beautiful and cooked perfectly. The grapefruit sauce gave a nice acidity to the dish, and lots of flavor. It gets an;

Chile-spiced mahi on a warm tortilla with roasted tomatillo salsa and fresh cilantro. Made by Mike Dillard from WDW park operations.

I really did not like this. It wasn't bad, it just wasn't to my taste. I ate the fish, which was well prepared, and left the rest on the plate. Also, way too much cilantro.

It gets an;

Two other items in the octogon section that I did not try;

Chiappetti spaghetti, which were stuffed spaghetti bites, made by Steve Chiappetti from Viand in Chicago, Illinois, and;

Deconstructed venison pot pie with roasted vegetables, made by Brian Rodgers and Paul Napoli from Olivia's Cafe at Old Key West.

Boar tenderloin with forest mushrooms, savory pastry, and crabapple-cranberry ketchup. Made by Josh Noid from Mama Melrose's at Hollywood Studios.

This was good, I loved the boar. The pastry was boring, but the ketchup had a lot of flavor and went well with the boar. It gets an;

One other item I did not try; wild turkey and smoked duck white bean chili, made by Stephen Lawlor from Cape May Cafe at the Beach Club.

That concludes my review of Party for the Senses. I only have a couple more left to do, Sweet Sundays, Kringla og Bakeri, and one item from the food booths, as well as a short summary of the festival center. With any luck these will be done by the end of the weekend, as I may be losing intenet connection as of the 1st. I don't think I will be, and that it'll be taken care of tomorrow, but in case it isn't, and I'm not around after Saturday, you all know why.

I'm all caught up now :goodvibes

WOW! Some of those dishes at PFTS look/sound amazing :banana:

Got my new laptop up and running, so no delay in the reviews. :goodvibes

I absolutly love my new one. The screen is huge, and the picture is beautiful. I got one with a blu-ray player, so video's great too.

Food porn is great in HD. :rotfl:

I just wanted to include a quick post about my thoughts of the Center this year.

The wine shop was in the same location this year, and seemed to have about the same amount of wines as in years past. I did buy two bottles my first night, to drink after returning to my room from the parks. I finished the first one in three nights, but ended up having half a bottle of the second one the last morning, that I couldn't bring myself to pour out, so ending up drinking quite a bit before checking out. :laughing:

Didn't do any of the wine tastings or culinary demonstrations this year, so can't comment on those.

I loved the champagne bar this year. They had fruit and cheese plates with dorothea cheese, and that made a tasty snack two days. I love the dorothea cheese.

They also had a short video about the making of wine in the theater that used to show the Making of Me. I watched it twice, it was decent and was air conditioned seating.

The book shop seemed to have a little less selection this year, though it was early on in the Festival, so maybe they've added more since then. There are two I decided I wanted, though I didn't buy them there, as I know I can get them cheaper here at home, Upper Crusts, which is a bunch of recipes featuring bread, and Fear of Wine, which looked like a good general guide to wine.

The merchandise this year I thought was good. I was dissapointed that there were no more bags left made from last year's banners, and I can only hope that they start making some that way every year, as I'm sure eventually I'll be there for the first day of the Festival again.

They had a lady selling food and wine-scented soaps this year. I almost bought some, but didn't. I did buy a tote bag, the cook book, wine glass charms, and the Tinker Bell pin.

The guinea pig in your avatar looks like the one I used to have. His name was Yoda, and I had him when I was in middle school. He was such a sweetie!

That was my guinea pig named Gus Gus. He was a great pig. He weighed 3 lbs and was huge! I love them as pets. Yoda is a great name.

My sister was obsessed with Star Wars when we got that pig. Gus Gus is a cute name too! :goodvibes

Thanks so much for posting all those lovely pictures from PFTS. All in all, it was my favorite Festival Event and something I would attend again and in a heartbeat.

It is a great way to spend an evening.

Food & Wine scented soaps??? I'm not so sure about that
Some of them smelled a little too different, but there were a couple I really liked.

Fantastic Reviews!!
Thank you!
