September Hours

The hours for all of the parks in September have changed. The water parks are now closed on certain day of the week. TL is closed on Sunday and Monday and BB is closed on Fri. and Sat. They have also taken the hours out for AK and said they have not been established yet.

I don't know what is going on. It is a little hard to plan when they keep changing the hours.

Isn't this odd? Why would the water parks be closed two days of the week? I don't understand why Disney makes so many changes to the hours. I'm trying to get all my information together and have to keep changing it.

I thought this was a joke or a mistake, but I just went to the Disney site. Blizzard Beach is closed on Fridays & Saturdays (12,13,19,20,26,27), and Typhoon Lagoon is closed on Sundays and Mondays (7,8,14,15,21,22). I have been a defender of most things Disney on the Rumors board, but this really makes me mad. I am very much under the impression that this must be some sort of technical glitch or type-o on the website. First.... why would they close the parks over the weekends? I would think that Sat & Sunday would be the days (even during the off season) that the parks would be most likely to be crowded. This just doesn't make sense.

As far as Animal Kingdom's hours - they are not on there, but hours for October are up. That doesn't make sense.

I'm just inclined to believe that it is a technical issue... they can't be that crazy to start closing the waterparks down on weekends?

Can they?

This is crazy. We had planned to visit BB on Saturday, now will have to rearrange all of my plans including PS. I can't believe they would close on a weekend. I can't beleive they would change AK any worse, I mean they already close at 5:00 PM, what next.

Especially when you consider that's major dollars lost during peak season. Doesn't seem to be very good business sense. It also limits our options when we arrive in a few weeks.

Looks like the attendance is way down and they are cutting costs by closing them. It is off season, so, I can understand the move, although I also understand how it might upset plans for folks.

Very strange since they didn't offer AP rates. I assumed that meant the hotels were close to capacity.

Considering its next to impossible to get rooms during september I dont think its because of attendance. If its cost why not shut them down on weekdays only. It is very frustrating to keep having the hours change.

I could be wrong, but I suspect some type of system glitch on their site. If you look for the AK park hours for August, it tells you that they have not been established either. I would keep your eye on the site the next couple of days and see what happens.

What do you mean it's next to impossible to get rooms during September?

I just checked AKL for my September dates a few minutes ago out of curiousity and every type of room was available.

You could very well be correct. October shows no closing for the water parks. Except for refurb. in late Oct. for BB.

Not sure what Shane is talking about as Sept. is one of the slowest months of the year.

Well, I will be jealous when I get back and you are there. ;)

Dear Friends, i think the problem in September (park hours) is the weather !! What do you think about ?

This is probably not the final word, but I just checked out park hours on tour guide mike's website (recommended by Mary Waring at mousesavers.com) and he also shows those weird dates for water parks being closed. He does however list hours for AK as 9-5, which is what they were before--I think!

Attendance at the main parks seems to peak over the weekends, so it stands to reason that it may actually decline at the water parks.

While some may call me naive, I tend to have a great deal of faith in the attendance-based decisions that WDW makes. Honestly, I don't think I've ever heard anyone say that a park was packed to capacity, half the rides were closed, and the closing time was 6pm on a single day. From my (albeit limited) experiences, Disney seems to do an excellent job of tailoring the parks to fit a particular day.

Let's face it--we, as outsiders, have access to ZERO information. Disney, on the other hand, has decades of historical attendance data, up-to-the-minute info on hotel occupancy rates, and detailed computer models with which to project attendance on any given day. Do they have to make tough decisions at times? Sure. Is is really an inconvenience to find out that one cannot visit Typhoon Lagoon two days per week? Not really.
