Has anyone cruised in September? How warm is the water and did anyone encounter bad weather or rough seas??

We cruised last year, Sep 21-28th on the Fantasy (Eastern Caribbean). Great weather, smooth seas....with about 15 minutes of rain one day. The Fantasy met a tropical storm the week after us, so was probably a little rougher.

The water in St Maarten, St Thomas, and Castaway Cay was very comfortable and not too cold. I would definitely cruise September again if the kids weren't in school

This question will receive a lot more attention and more replies on the main cruise forum instead of the trip report board.

By the way, where are you going? If you are talking about the Caribbean or the Bahamas, in our experience, yes the water is warm, as warm as it going to get in fact. We have never been on a September cruise to the Caribbean or Bahamas that was notably affected by bad weather or rough seas. It's our favorite time to cruise.

We did a four day Dream cruise to the Bahamas the first week of September last year. It was beautiful, the water was perfect, and only a bit of rain the day we were in Nassau. It was a day that we spent exploring the ship and enjoying room service and people watching from our balcony. We are going on a five day double dip this year the end of September and are hoping for as good of weather.

The weather was beautiful until the last night. Never knew anything was amiss until we left the final Disney show and saw castmembers putting huge chains on all the doors to outside. Got to our room and the boat began rocking (was in front of ship, didn't know the front of the ship feels it worse). I gave both my kids Dramamine, and tried to settle in. Fortunately, they fell asleep, but not my husband and I. The boat would go up on a wave and as it crashed down, the closet doors would slam one way or the other. I don't ever get motion sick but I was throwing up within the hour. I walked outside (holding on to wall) and one of the CM was coming up the hall also holding on. I asked if this was normal (this was our first cruise) and with huge eyes he said, "No, not normal, not normal!" Eventually it calmed down a bit, but there was little sleep. Later found out we went through a gale. It didn't stop us though, we went on another cruise the next year in October. Beautiful weather the whole time. Praying for good weather this trip!

We almost always sail in Sept. The weather is usually very good. It is hurricane season though. In probably 15 Sept cruises, we skirted a tropical storm only once

We did a short cruise last September on another line. Our stop at Grand Cayman was beautiful - hot and sunny. Next day at Cozumel, the sky opened up and dumped at least 6" of rain. After the cruise, we went to WDW where there was a huge thundershower one afternoon.

YYMV but be prepared for anything!!!!

That being said, I almost always plan my vacations for September.

Happy cruising :) :thumbsup2
