September 30, 2012 - "To San Francisco and Beyond"

Hi everyone!

I am Boridiva Belle, Hollywood Glitter's mom. I am also going on this cruise. This will be my third cruise. We are adult travelers (no children here). We have never felt left out, there is so much to do for the adults. ::yes::We like the second dinner seating because it is mostly adults. On my first cruise I was seated with another mom and daughter. Turned out the mom was my age and the daughter was my daughter's age.
KimnChris do not worry, we Disney people are fun people.:cool1: I live in Anaheim. What time is your check in time? We have 11:30. I am looking forward to meeting you and all the others. :woohoo::banana:

We booked super late, I think we don't check in until 1pm.. Not sure if I got there earlier they would take us earlier. :)

Thank you all for the info on bringing food on board :) I will keep it in mind!

The cupcake shop at Ghirardelli Square, Kara's Cupcakes, is indeed, good. :) There are lots of other bakeries not too far from the dock, too. To name a few: Miette, Cupcake Cove, Victoria Pastry, and Stella's.

As most of you will probably be taking a trip to the Walt Disney Museum, I wanted to note a possible FREE transportation option. The Walt Disney Museum is located in the Presidio (a park area and former military base) at the very top left of the city, which is clear across the city from where your cruise ship will be docking. There is a shuttle which goes to the Presidio that is free and as far as I know, fairly reliable (since it has to transport lots of George Lucas' employees :rotfl2:): http://www.presidio.gov/visit/transportation/Pages/shuttle.aspx Just an option to keep in mind if you will be going from downtown to the Presidio!

Hi Mel~

Thank you for the information on the cupcake places...I have never been to an actual "cupcake shop." Will have to try one of them...

Could you take the shuttle from the Tea Garden to the Walt Disney Museum?

See you soon... :goodvibes

Welcome to the cruise meet thread! Please come by and say "Hello" at the meet and greet - 3:00 pm, Sunday 09/30 at the Promenade lounge - deck 3.
Looking forward to meeting you and your wife.

No kids here either...We love Disney/Pixar too and this will be our 5th Disney cruise.

6 more days to go...

We will be there! :)

Looks like I just got my stateroom, Deck 2 aft.. I most likely will be asking to upgrade, anyone think its worth it? Was a pretty good deal to get this cabin, but not sure if its worth it to upgrade to something else? Anyone with any upgrade exp?

KC

:surfweb:Hi fellow cruisers. I am Mike, adnil530's DH. This will be our 7th Disney cruise and we're looking forward to sailing with you all. Regarding San Fran, as it's a very diverse and active city. When we lived nearby many years ago, we remember that when you wanted to find out what to do you find the "pink" section in the Chronicle and that had all the answers... Today I went out to get the San Francisco Chronicle to check out the entertainment section for the period we will be there .. for those of you who don't have access to a San Francisco Chronicle, check out SFGATE.COM maybe you can find something going on that you may enjoy while you're in the city by the bay! This site may not have it all, but it may give you some insight on what direction to seek out your passion! SF is a pretty interesting place. Enjoy!:cool1:

So you finally joined the Dis eh? Now you will know why I spend so much time up here ♥ :rotfl2:

Well, I had no idea about these boards nor this site.. My wife and I will be on this cruise, first time on Disney however we have been on many other lines..

We recently moved to Orange county from the bay area, so the stop in SF will be fun visiting with family that we left behind..

Only concern... We do not have any kids, but love disney/pixar and are season pass holders down here..

Hope we wont feel left out without kids! :P

KC

Welcome! Our children will not be in tow this trip. Not like we see them much when they are with us. You will find so much to do and enjoy. You will not feel left out. You are going to have a blast!

Looking forward to meeting you and Sigris and having brunch together. Getting so excited!

The shuttle is good to know about. DH and his brother have decided that they may want to go to an A's game while we are in San Francisco. I found a website that will plan your route via public transportation: http://www.511.org/ Put in where you want to go and it maps out which buses/Barts to take, the time and the cost involved. You don't necessarily need the address either. I mapped everything starting at Pier 35 San Francisco. Neato!

Check in time is like 1pm, but we will get there early.. We are on 2nd seating for dinner as well :P We are pretty excited! First Vacation for us in 3 years, work has been hell :P

Hi Kim and Chris,
We also are without kids and on Late Seating Dining....but we always choose late seating as we don't like to rush back to the shp for dinner and take our time getting ready as well as having an adult beverage somewhere.

Gang.....I checked the 10 day forecast again as now Wednesday in SFO shows...and it is about the same temp...but 20% chance of rain. I always keep an umbrella in the carry-on.

Packed my foldables and shoes this AM and then put dry cleaner bags over my hanging stuff........OK, I am ready!....but as usual the DH will wait until the last minute to pack!

Hi Mel~

Could you take the shuttle from the Tea Garden to the Walt Disney Museum?

Unfortunately no :( The Presidio shuttle only goes from downtown to the Presidio. The Tea Garden is in Golden Gate Park, which is on the same side of the city, but about 20 minutes away.

511 is very useful for planning inter-city trips! And BART is super fast and convenient to use. If you are planning to watch an A's game, on Wednesdays (including October 3rd) they have a special section that is just $2! http://oakland.athletics.mlb.com/oak/ticketing/bart_2_wed.jsp I love my SF Giants, but their ticket prices are ridiculous now...

Yes, we are planning on Oct 3 @ 12:45 pm but I couldn't see where to purchase the $2 tickets, the link takes me to their regular pricing. I was thinking about the $18 tix since dh & I have military ID, it's only $10. We were going to wait and just walk up and get tickets without purchasing them in advance. Can you do that? I was going to check the day before to make sure there was still availability. Thanks for your help!

I'm curious about this too. Btw, KC, you're our neighbors. We live in Mission Viejo! :wave2:

Ah, it looks like there are no $2 seats left :( sorry about that! They would show under the "Plaza Outfield and Plaza Reserved" sections, which aren't available. I guess since it's the last game of the regular season they got snatched up early. You can definitely wait and do walk up, but then you do run the risk of it possibly being sold out. If it's not something you're sure you want to do though, then I would wait to buy them in person or at least closer to the date :)

I'm not sure if you were planning on visiting the Disney Museum, but it is only open on Wednesday while you are here also. It is sadly closed on Tuesdays, so you might want to consider going to the Tuesday night A's game instead, if you were hoping to do both. Despite what some people may, taking BART to the Oakland Coliseum at night is perfectly safe --- they have Disney on Ice there every year! lol You're also not too far from the City that you could also do the Disney Museum as a day trip on another day!

Are any of you DVC members? If so, in your experience in cruising with cash, have you received DVC gifts even though you weren't cruising on points? My last Disney cruise I cruised on points, so I did get the DVC gifts. Just wondering if I should be expecting, or hoping for something even though I paid cash. Tia.....

I just came from Alaska and I paid with cash, I got DVC gifts and Castaway gifts. :yay:

OOOooooh, I wanna look so bad! But I'm making myself be surprised. That being said, I really appreciated your (non-spoiler) summary here. Thank you so much :-)
