September 30, 2012 - "To San Francisco and Beyond"

My kids started school today:cool1:
My daughter (6th grade) has been ready to back for about a month. She misses all her friends. My son (9th) would never go back if he had his choice.

They will be happy when they get home because I just booked a DCL cruise for Easter. I wanted to lock in rates since they were just released today. I am hoping to rebook it on the ship with a better rate and OBC.

It is an 8 night out of Galveston.

2014???? I'm on hold with Disney right now. I didn't hear that 2014 was released yet. If so, how exciting. I want a 2014 Easter cruise too!

Edit: I see now, there's a thread on the new cruises out of Galveston....it's an 8 night Bahamian out of Galveston in 2013. That will be an awesome trip! I'm waiting for a 2014 Fantasy Easter cruise and will book 2 dummies on this cruise for it. That will be the last time my dd16 will be able go to the kids clubs.

Elf 1 - this is definitely not our 1st cruise ever, but our first one on Disney...and we are "kidless" as well. But we live not too far down the freeway from Disneyland and have been there many, many times and I worked there in college. Looking forward to meeting you if we can make it to the Promenade by 3pm ( we are boarding at 12:30).

Speaking of which....where does one have lunch after boarding? I am assuming the buffet? On Princess, one of the Dining Rooms is open for lunch, does Disney do the same?

Lise - Yup, we heard about the rotational dining....how does one start out with that? Are you just assigned a dining room and table for the boarding night and then rotate after that?? We are 2nd seating.

Also, thank you for posting Hollywood Glitter's link, have copied that as well...and thanks to Hollywood for posting it....and Hollywood, we live just south of you in Mission Viejo.

More questions....how is the smoking policy onboard? I can't imagine with families onboard that it would be very liberal. One thing I hate is paying for a balcony cabin and then not being able to use it or leave your door open for fresh air when the balcony next to you is used for smoking! (OK, I will get off the soapbox now!)

2013.

Disney pulled the cruises about 2 weeks ago to change the itinerary. It was a Western Caribbean.
It is now Castaway Cay, Key West, and Port Canaveral (w/ 1 day park hoppers to wdw and transportation) and 4 sea days.

Today was the first day to book these cruises.

ETA: My kids would love a cruise with all sea days. They will be excited.

Wow that sounds fun with a visit to Castaway Cay and a day at the Parks to boot! My dh would absolutely disown me if I booked something for 2013. I promised him I wouldn't since we are doing so much this year. Tempting though...very tempting......but I'll be good and stick to the plan::yes::

Thanks for the welcome. We have the 11:30 check-in so should be in and settled to see what's going on at the meet and greet at 3.

Managed to get all the family together in January at Fort Wilderness with the motorhome. It will be nice this time to relax and leave the "driving" to someone else.

They open one of the restaurants (Parrot Cay) and Beach Blanket Buffet for lunch on embarkation day, both are buffet style lunches. (be sure to try the strawberry soup" :hyper:)

Yup, that's exactly how rotational dining works. You'll be given a dining 'pass' which has your rotation order printed on it. I believe it's also printed on your key to the world card. You'll be at the same number table each night, with the same serving team and table mates, just in a different restaurant.

I'm not very familiar with the smoking policy, there are A couple of public areas on the outdoor decks designated for smokers, but I have no idea about on verandahs :confused3 I'm pretty sure DCL has that all on their website though. I would be extremely annoyed to find someone smoking on the balcony next to me too!

Hope that helps a bit!

Wenuwish....I called Disney today and unfortunately, yes, they allow smoking on balconies which greatly surprised me since it is such a family line. I just hope there are none next to us!!! Will definitely write this up at the end as there are lines that prohibit it....Princess, and Regent Seven Seas come to mind.

Welcome! Happy to have you join us!:) we are having a meet and greet at 3pm at the Promanade lounge, deck 3 (I hope I got this right) on day of departure. Hope to meet you, your wife, and son there.

Awesome you were on the Hawaii cruise. I wanted to do that one too, but it wasn't in the budget! I bet you had a great time, huh?!?

Hey Neighbors!

Welcome to the cruise! You're going to luv it. What other cruise lines have you been on? I've only been on Disney but I feel like I've been spoiled.

I used to work at Disney too! What dept were you in?

So I was just wondering if anyone is thinking about doing a pre TR or a TR for this cruise? I know Hollywood Glitter has already started hers and I don't want to miss out on any other build up to our cruise that might be happening! :woohoo:

Wow...I can't believe this has been going on for 67 pages and I just came across it. It's a big internet.

This will be the DW and my second cruise but first with DCL. It's good to see there will be many others sans kids. Ours are all off on there own but I don't want to miss out on the fun stuff just because they aren't coming along.

Sounds like a good group and a great time. We're looking forward to the week.

 Welcome

DD Sabrina started 6th Grade yesterday... backpack, volleyball gear bag, saxophone and lunch. First year of middle school...she was excited to reconnect with old friends who went to different elementry schools!

She's having fun posting on KID ONLY - To SF and Beyond. Maybe your DD wil be on a cruise with Sabrina in the future. Easter, eh? :daisy:

Does everyone know about this but me?? I've just gotta figure out something fun to do with these!!!

Mail a Smile - Forever Stamps

I could mail cards to our house to surprise DD and DH and continue to build their excitement :thumbsup2

And DD Sabrina can send postcards home to friends from the ship :sulley:

Thank you Lise for the information. We went to our local post office today and bought both this year's and the ones from last year. I also bought a few of the "Aloha Shirt" postcard stamps too. :cool1:

Welcome ErikdaRed and your family. Our DD was about 4 on our first Disney Cruise. I bet meeting the the "live" Pixar characters will be just as awesome for your son as all the Princesses were for Sabrina! :sulley:

Marina and Matt were loaded up with their school supplies. Matt had his viola.
My kids attend a performing arts charter school. It is K-12. So, even though Matt is stating HS. He is in the same wing as last year.

Marina would love to meet your daughter. If you book Easter, just let me know. I can have Marina get in touch with Sabrina. Marina has a lot of friends she has met on cruises that she keeps in contact with via facebook, Skype, and texts.

Bot kids would of loved to went on the Pixar cruise but their school does not like you to take them out. We found out last year when we took them out for 3 days (for an 11 night cruise over Easter) that they have a hard time making up the work.
