September 30, 2012 - "To San Francisco and Beyond"

This might be a silly question but I have read that most rooms do not have a dresser or trunk, do any have a closet? I am just wondering where we will hang DH's suit and my dress?:confused3

I'm not sure what room class you are reading about. Click these links and check out the 360 view of the staterooms. Standard Inside Staterooms shows drawers in/next to the desk in addition your night stand drawers and the closet. Deluxe Inside Staterooms and Deluxe Outside Staterooms have another set of drawers and typically have stand alone multi-shelf cabinet as well. I'm thinking one cruise we didn't have it, but the other times we did.

In the past, the three of us traveled with 5 full size pieces of luggage and 3 carry-ons full of clothes, toys and stuff. We were able to completely unpack and stow the empty bags under the bed.

I meant to say some and not most. I should not post when I am tired. :)
It's just the two of us so based on your description I am sure we will have enough space. I am just trying to plan what clothes to take and room for the FE things I am taking. I don't want to be tripping over my luggage all week :) Thanks for the help.

We are in a 6A veranda stateroom and have also read there is no trunk. Not to worried as I am sure we will have enough storage space.

I have stayed in a Cat 11. with 4. No steamer trunk

There should be plenty of room. Your luggage can go under the bed.

You will have a small set of drawers next to the closet. There is storage in the desk and night stands.

I was little unclear from the wesbsite so I emailed them directly. I got a reply back in about 24 hrs. For our family of 4, we can get a private van for $47 each way (including a 5% discount currently listed on their website, enter promo code "gorapid"). This is from LAX to the Port. It also includes free carseats/boosters (you have to insure proper installation yourself). So we're looking at $94 RT for this private transport. I really rely a lot on personal recommendations, so I was hoping somewhere here had used them before I go ahead and book it.

Is Payless Shuttle private? Maybe I should look at them, too...

Btw, Rapid Shuttle also offers "meet and greet" (they meet you at baggage claim and help you get to their car) for another $12 each trip. Thinking I might do that too cause one of the things that really stresses me out is finding the car/shuttle people and feeling rushed to get to them quickly enough.

I'm still looking too... is Rapid Shuttle a better deal than Payless Airport Shuttle - Specials - LA Cruise Ship Shuttle ? It looks like Payless is $10 pp OW. For our family of three that's $60 RT.

Anyone know how far off-shore we'll be on the various legs of the cruise?

...just wonderin'...:confused3

LOL,
This is going to be our 3rd cruise this year with 2 booked for next year (Caribbean and Baltic - both on Celebrity) We haven't told to many people that this vacation is another cruise as they will think we are nuts.

Agree that cruises are a great way to relax - no phone, no Internet, no trying to decide where to eat and how to get where ever you are traveling to.

I am so looking forward to no phone or internet!! :cheer2: I have a habit of working while on vacation, DH might have to hide my phone when we are on land. :lmao:

Hi everyone,

Our family (myself, DW, DD (2) and DS (.5)) will be joining you all on this cruise and we couldn't be more excited. We've never done a cruise before nor ever been to Mexico. So needless to say we have a million questions. But one for which I can't find an answer to is can I bring my toddler and baby on an excursion (particularly in Ensenada?) The descriptions show prices for ages 3 to 9 and then 10 and up, but there isn't any mention about children under 3. Is that just because they don't charge for under 3 or are they not permitted. Could we even bring strollers onto a buss, and where would a baby sit if there are no car seats? Or is it simply not a good idea to go on a port adventure with two little ones?

Anyways, I'd really like for us to get off the boat in Ensenada if only so I can say we've been to Mexico, but after checking out the town in Street View I can't find a beach within walking distance and I don't get the impression that walking around the dock area with my toddlers would be much fun. I hope someone can convince me otherwise.

Thanks,
-Paul

Can someone shed light on SF weather?

I's seeing contradictory info. Frommer's: Oct temp - High 64/Low 53. Then I found ... It predicts we'll have days in the 70's but the description reads partly cloudy and cool :confused3

Hi LiseG,

I would never try to predict the weather in SF even 6 days in advance much less 6 weeks but I'd say you can expect it to be in the 70's once the fog burns off, if there is any fog that day. Early October is usually quite pleasant. That said you should always dress in layers in SF. Always bring a jacket but be prepared for it to be hot too.

Sorry if that doesn't clear up much

Welcome! You are your family are going to have a great time.

Not sure about excursions since my kids are older. You can always send DCL an email if you don't want to wait on hold. It usually takes a day or two for them to respond.

I have not been to Ensenda, either. My mom wanted to do the horse back riding. All my Mexico visits have been on the Caribbean side.

I know the weather will vary above board and that wind would make it on the cool side but I'm wondering about inside the boat... do they tend to be chilly w/ strong air conditioners or 'just right'? I know it's all relative but I'm trying to figure out if we should back more shorts or more pants. Thanks!

Inside I've always found it to be 'just right.' Infact, they do such a good job that I haven't even thought about it until now!

Welcome to our fun group! We are glad you joined us :) We might get off the boat in Ensenada but we are going to wait and see what we want to do when the time comes. It is my understanding that the beach is not within walking distance. This is my first cruise so I am not much help with questions but there are many here who will help.

I am usually be fine in shorts and a t-shirt. I hate cold weather. I usually bring a light sweater with me( if I have on a sundress) it the dining room just in case.

I am trying to decide where to stay before the cruise. We arrive Friday 28th at 10:30am.

Santa Monica or Disneyland.

I am leaning toward Santa Monica staying at either Loews or Holiday inn at the pier. I figure these are central locations to the beach, pier and promenade areas.

I was thinking on Saturday we would take the Hop on bus and see the sights.

My mom does not travel. I want to show her as much as I can since I don't think she will be on the west coast again. She has driven from MI to TX a few times to visit my sister. She went to Fl as a teen but WDW was not open yet. She has been on a Royal Caribbean cruise with my family about 10 yrs ago.

So I was walking downtown today and ran into Sully!
He said to say hi and looking forward to meeting you all next month! ;)
