September 3, 2005 --- Who is going?

Got the Docs today. We wish Sept 3rd was tomorrow.

one is it's the home of oriental trading company and they have a local store. Went tonight and got all kinds of suprises for the kiddies. (even a new eyepatch for the dog which may make it via photo to out cabin door!) I won't divulge the nature of the treats as there may be kids lurking but it sure was fun and I had guessed about 24 kids so I was close! Walked out to a huge thunderstorm and convinced DD that running through the rain and puddles was just practice for the beach.

Costumes were out and I must say that I was tempted to go the pirate route myself but decided against it. I find that pillaging is best done undercover.

No docs yet

omapcw1: We are also from Omaha! (me, DH, DD(age7),DS(age10). Small world huh?
I knew the oriental trading company was in town, but didn't know there was a retail store you could actually shop at. Where is it located? I feel the need to shop!
When are you flying out? We are heading out at 8am Friday morning, staying at the airport hotel friday night so we can get to the ship early, early early!

dw called me on the way home from work today to tell me that there was alittle brown box on the porch when she got home. oh happy day, we're dancing now. time to get to work on the door sign. i'm gathering the clipart and getting the disney font to put the words on. it's official now, we are going!

WOw...

... I feel like we're gonna be the very LAST folks to get our docs at this rate. Maybe I should just rescheule my flights now or convert my trip into a WDW vacation instead?!

So - I'd like to invite any of the kids who are going to go whether they would like to exchange emails (possibly digital photos) with my daughter - age 4. If so - then please send a private message and we'll swap email addresses or we can handle the communication strictly with private messages. I've already started a bit - but I don't knowif any of the 4 year old boys had any interest in swapping communications.

Oh well... I guess that last comment admits that we actually expect to eventually get our docs and sail. If not on Sept 3rd then when-ever they get our docs to us.


As for canine door signs - I really like that notion. It sort of gets our pooches on the ship in spirit for the sake of our kids if not for the pooches themselves. I think I'm clearly going to need several different door signs to address all the different concepts we want to engage in. Of course - these are just plans right now - what we get around to is another matter. Lets' see.... I gotta make doors signs, get a pirate outfit (4 actually), get a new tux shirt, pack, and so on... the list is unfinished.

BUT - once enroute - ready or not - we're gonna have a blast. And anything forgotten will be acquired in Orlando or otherwise!

We havent gotten our docs yet either. Driving me crazy as well . We went thru a local travel agent, so we're going to call tomorrow (and bribe if we have too! )! Last year we had them over a month before we set sail. Have no idea why its so late this year.

Kim: It is a small world! The OTC store is actually Nobbies. It's owned by the Watanabee family and I never would have guessed the connection but my old secretary went to work for OTC and she connected the dots for me. It's good fun right now with summer sale and lots of Pirate gear. Were flying NWA midafternoon thru MSP. I fly a lot for work and try and keep everything on one airline for the precious upgrades. I'm pretty much assured that at least 2 of the 4 of us will end up in first class. I let Grumpy sit up front with which ever kid sat in coach the leg before and I and my coach pal watch the portable DVD and plan for our trip.

Are your kids OPS? I was feeling guilty about taking mine out during the first week of school but figured they wouldn't miss that much. After all, they aren't covering brain surgery in Grade 3!

I'm thinking of staying somewhere near the airport, renting a car and hitting character warehouse before we head to port! Let me know if you want to escape.

Thanks for the reassuring me we are not entirely alone on this matter. Not that we're in crisis yet - that doesn't happen until we get to the pier and watch the ship sail .... without us.

Mic-Maniac.... maybe they're holding off of sending us our cruise docs because they can't decide whether which of us gets the Walt suite and the other the lowly catagory 2!

Remember... They just can't decide who should have the suite. Well if the powers that be are reading this, I'm more than happy to give it to captaincrash if we could just get our docs!

I was feeling guilty about taking mine out during the first week of school but figured they wouldn't miss that much. After all, they aren't covering brain surgery in Grade 3!

glad to see someone else with such a healthy attitude about the beginning of school. at that age our dw was ready to dropout of school at two weeks in, because she already knew everything. it took us a while to figure that they were reviewing the last year and she did already know it.

she is in christian school and they give 5 grace days to be used however the family wants. maybe they don't intend for you to burn them all at once like we also do, but the teachers have always been very helpful with lessons for her to do while we are gone, and have never seemed to have a problem with it. in fact, her teacher goes to church with us and i mentioned it earlier this summer and she said that there will be no problem with her missing. so she starts next thursday and we leave the following thursday.

Glad to see there are others out there that still don't have their documents. I am getting crazed. I jump up every time I hear a large vehicle approach our house hoping it is the UPS man. I even checked the DU website and the Disney cruise website to make sure we were still listed as booked. Where are my docs? Hopefully, they will come today.

We are pulling both of our boys out of school for the trip. Our principal has been very understanding especially since we took them out the last week of school last year. I promised her after this trip I will try to get myself under control with these trips but we just had to go on this cruise. I really think this family time is more important in the long run, and the rates are so much cheaper in September than in the summer.

Now if I could just get those docs

For all of you concerend about the kids missing school...

My DW was a teacher for about 8 years and now tutors part time. I'm sure for a nominal fee she'd be happy to meet with your kids in the conference center or the library on Deck 2. Right honey? Have to find a way to pay for all of our on board expenses!

Thats nice that at least of couple of you are 1st class! We haven't gotten our docs yet so I have no idea what airline we are even on (but we'll definitely be coach! Darn!)

We live in Millard so as of right now we are still Millard Schools (what a controvery!) My kids start school next week, so they will have had almost 3 weeks of school before leaving. I've already talked to their teachers and neither has a problem with it. DD is 2nd grader, DS is a 5th grader. We went last year about the same time and it really wasn't a big deal missing a week -- so I wouldn't feel guilty. Vacations have a lot of real life learning anyway(different cultures, sights & foods, meeting new friends ), so its good for them!

Let me know where you decide to stay...I may be interested in that char warehouse! We may head down to downtown disney for the night if we don't have any delayed flights.

Our docs came too!

We were getting ready to back into the garage and I told Andy that we needed to check by the front door, that I had a good feeling. He got out of the truck and walked outside and then he came back in and said, "Nope, just your Avon boxes...no docs." A few minutes later he casually mentions, "Oh, yeah...there was something behind the Avon." And he held up the long-awaited for little brown package. Yippee!!!

But on the other hand ... maybe they have NOT assigned the Walt suite yet....

So DDF... if you move into the UPS hub... do you suppose they'll allow you internet access on their phone lines - otherwise you won't have an easy time of it to "lurk" on the DIS boards.
