September 29, 2012 - Ropin' Some Magic in the Western Caribbean

I am ECSTATIC! Being first time cruisers we booked the cheapest, smallest room...well someone told me to call DCL and see if they could upgrade as we are closing in on the sail date... SOOOOO...

CALLED....and...

went from an INSIDE room... to a VERANDAH room (and on the same floor I wanted!) for a mere charge of $73 TOTAL....so... yeah we have a room change!

going FROM room 5137 TO 5150

will change in the FE list too, sorry for the late changes!

That's fantastic!:cool1:

I called them a couple of weeks ago and asked about upgrading to a veranda room (as per the offer they're running right now).
I was told that if I upgraded it would cost an extra $66 each and I would lose my $50 onboard credit that I got from booking on my disney visa card. :(

Glad your upgrade worked out better!

I just called and they told me it would be 210. :( We currently have a deluxe inside room 10B. Is it worth the 210 for the veranda?? We've never cruised and I was told that you are rarely in the room anyway. Thoughts??

On another note- I need favorite colors for Faithfullyeeyore

The veranda rooms are nice. You can put your wet clothes on them to dry for one thing and if you smoke, it is a must. I don't smoke but Ii love my veranda rooms! I can't believe the good rates they are giving you.

To have a verandah (balcony in my past experience) or not seems to be pretty specific to the preferences of the couple or family. This is my eighth cruise in six years and all but two were with balconies. I loved the balcony in Alaska and I loved it in Cozumel. I love the balcony in the wee morning hours and late at night when most of the lights are out except for the stars. You can find some places on deck with that experience, but I would not feel as safe alone in a dark corner of a public deck in the wee hours.

One of the reasons I love cruising is because I am able to disconnect from my job and other responsibilities unlike other vacations. When I sit on the balcony and contemplate the stars and thier creator, or sometimes just ponder navel lint, I am able to unwind. That is a bit more difficult for me to do with the laughter, music, and wonderful fun that is usually up on the main decks. I like the fun, but I need the quiet times.

I will have my young grandsons with us this cruise and while we will have to be very careful with them on the verandahs, I also imagine we will enjoy the verandah view if they ever decide to take a nap. ;) Of course, I may well volunteer to be the napping grandparent who stays with the boys while their parents are enjoying another area of the ship. I love naps and especially on ships! ::yes::

That is a good price for a veranda. To me it is worth it.....I love sitting on the veranda and drinking coffee first thing in the morning. I enjoy watching the sunrise and sunset. I also really like reading on the veranda and watching the ocean. A lot of times, dolphins follow the ship out of Galveston (and back in) and that is fun to watch, too.

My room has to be accessible (I can't get in or out of a standard tub--and I'm sure my fellow passengers would appreciate it if I were clean!) They are often in higher priced categories.......which I don't think is fair......but it is what it is!

Is that $210 more total or per person? I love the view of the ocean, but we got an ocean view room with one window because the veranda makes me nervous with kids. My kids are older now than the last time we cruised so it would probably be ok, but they were 6 and 11 last time so I didn't want the veranda at all!! I was very paranoid!! If it was just me and my husband I'd definately get the veranda.

As far as how often you're in the room, that really depends on you and your family. My daughter got sick on our last cruise. (104 temp on pirate night) My husband had to stay in the room with her so I'm sure he would have loved the veranda then!

In my opinion, $210 for an upgrade to veranda isn't bad.

We did the upgrade! :thanks:
I will upgrade the room number on the FE list once they assign it.

GRATS! :) for the $210 extra, I'm not sure how we are getting deals and you aren't :( I was a category 11b before... I called them mentioned I saw great deals on http://cruisefish.net/ and asked if they could do anything for me :) My regular Disney person, Noah is GONE :( :( so I was bounced around a few times but the lady I ended up with was very nice (her name escapes me)

My pink shirts came from Jiffy shirt yesterday! Washed them. Now to do the iron-on this morning! I love their cheap prices and super fast shipping! (Added bonus since I no longer have a car!)

Saw this countdown calendar on Pinterest...thought it was cute!

Is that the one that had questions on the inside of each one too? Like which character are you looking forward to meeting?
DId you see the cute Mickey frame that is probably a 5 x7 frame turned side ways. You add those little suction cups to the glass part with little tags to hang your numbers on. Its so cute. We are going to make that one. I tried to post picture but it wouldn't copy it for me. :scratchin How did you get it to post a picture?

Have to say I agree with Piper. Having the veranda is so nice to sit out and enjoy some quietness and see the beauty in the morning is wonderful. Even in the afternoon. If the kids are off busy doing their Disney clubs. Which they love and never want to leave. I love to sit and read a book out there. In the evening love to see the moon hit the water.

So the five of us (Dad 40 , Mom 36, boys 10,8 and the princess 5) booked this cruise - first time for both cruise and Disney for all of us!
Would live to take part in every thing you are planing if still possible- if someone can still explain what we should do it will be so great!

Also a question for the 10 years old ( actually 10 and seven months)
Who loves mostly sports activity, in which club(oceaner or edge) he is most likely to find partners for sports activities? (assuming they would even let him jump to the edge)

Thanks for everyone !

Welcome aboard! You are going to love the Disney Cruise. From our past experience they only let kids go where their age group is. We went one year when our oldest was in the older group and middle child was only so many months being in that group with his sister. They wouldn't let him go with her. But, have to say he still loved his group. That year we had them in three different groups. This year the two older ones will be together and the younger in different.

I think it is. Just think how great it it to be able to get fresh air in your room.... It might minimize on germs :)

We have a "secret balcony" room and I think that's the thing I'm most excited about... having my morning coffee on the deck! And, checking out the fireworks from our balcony!
