September 2013 - lots of questions....

Sorry, it's me again! We're still weighing up our options for this September as, for those who don't know, we booked accommodation and tickets with WDTC over a year ago now, however, our circumstances have changed (we recently became homeowners!) meaning our trip is looking unlikely.

Our balance with WDTC is due next month so really it's decision time as I'll absolutely need to give up on it then (I'm still living in hope that we can go :goodvibes). Over the last week or 2 we have been looking at other holidays :scared1: but nothing is taking our fancy and the places that are are costing just as much, if not more, than Florida would.

Enough background, onto my questions....
  • Is there likely to be a flight sale over the next couple of weeks that would include September? I looked back on a couple of my older posts and someone (I think Netty) had mentioned there has previously been a sale around the last week of June/first week of July but not sure if this happened last year?
  • There was a load of cheap last minute flight deals last month - am I right in thinking September is similar to May cost-wise? If so, what's the chances of a cheap last minute deal?

I think I've resigned myself to not going but wanted to ask the above anyway! I'll be gutted if we cancel and then there's cheap last minute flights but that can be a how long is a piece of string question!

This thread might be helpful for flights, but I would say waiting until the last minute for a last minute deal is risky. September is usually cheaper than May.

Thanks, I'd seen that thread and annoyingly the dates we are looking for but going next year are actually cheaper than I've ever seen them for this year :headache: We're currently looking at £620 each from Glasgow, they did go down to £525 a couple of weeks ago but have shot back up again :(

Sods law is as soon as I cancel our Disney booking then I'll find a good flights deal.

We have been to Florida in May and June fairly recently (early June last year) and our flight price was reasonable - about half the price that summer school hols would have cost us - but then we did book early (with Virgin)

Then I managed to get a week off work third week in September and started looking around a month or so before and the prices were really expensive and more than we paid in June easily - could get a decent deal on accommodation but flight prices put us off.

Having done September a few times the airlines have cottoned on to less people travelling at the time and have reduced flights hence higher prices.

We went September 2011 and I booked flights in the summer in the sale however previously we had got good prices earlier and I was starting to get worried!

We are going september next year and going on last years prices we intend to book around christmas though the earliest I have booked for most months we have been is 5-6 months before. Its a case of checking 5-6 times a day everyday. Flights for this september are around the £750 mark. As only two of us we are prepared to go indirect so hope to pay no more than £650 each.

Ditto, we also go lucky last year with a flash sale and stupidly low prices even for September, but I am still eyeing out October this year and it's way too high for what my head and pre-programming is telling me is 'ok' .....

We're stuck with June next year and I have no idea what to expect! I'm ONLY paying deposit on my WDW booking in case we have to cancel due to flight prices costing us out (pessimistic I know lol)

Were also looking at October this yr! It was going to be September as long as the sale of our house went through, it looks like the sale is going through :) BUT then our lovely Dis friends asked if we could go with them and they go the 26th October! Flights I have seen are insane!!! Like over a £1000 for an adult,

This is what worries me! The OP has been actively hunting flights for MONTHS and September should not be that hard to find reasonable prices, which does make you worry a bit. I know that it cost us a little more when we went in October in 2010 than it did for our 2011 Sept/Oct trip and we paid even less for flights for last year going the first 3 weeks of September.

As always, you just can't predict flight prices at any time

ScottishGirl fingers crossed you get your special trip this year. :goodvibes

I can't remember if you had looked at this, but are you going for a 14 day trip? Just wondered about charters, but they do lock you into 7/14/21 day dates. Just wondered if a great deal on a charter would justify getting a shuttle and paying for it to and from Sanford ?

I know!! We have booked for September flights many times, so that doesn't give me a great feeling :(
I'm now thinking is go with any airline and yet I was looking at only virgin or BA, we have flown into Sanford quite a few times and never found it to be a problem or expensive to get to Disney and back, it's certainly way quicker getting through immigration lol then MCO you just go through passport control collect your luggage and walk out to the bus park so easy!

If we see any great flights I'll let you know! I can't believe we are even looking as we're not meant to be even going to next may! Damn sale of the house has now forced us to look at Disney trips lol

Ditto :goodvibes

What's with everyone moving. Such a bad time when we have flight prices to hunt (for ourselves and for our fellow DIS buddies!! :lmao: )
I move next week :crazy2: .... so rightfully I should be packing, not obsessing with flight searches ......

ScottishGirl, I'm hunting EDI departures although I will do GLA as well, but I assume you're on the Glasgow case so if I see anything good from Edinburgh, shall I message you anyway?

Ironically I got my June flights in 2012 for a better price than my September 11 ones!

You might be pleasantly surprised'

Thanks for all the replies, I think my expectations for September have been a little unrealistic as I thought it would be easier to get a deal seeing as schools are back by then.

Thanks, Lee. I have tried mixing it up by altering the duration and checked prices from every UK airport (although, realistically there's only a few I'd be willing to drive to), Edinburgh included (which has been more expensive than Glasgow for anytime I have tried) but nothing jumping out. I think Manchester is coming in at about £520pp each, indirect, but by the time we add the cost of petrol, plus I'd want to drive down the night before so a hotel too, we're looking at little or no saving on going from Glasgow.

Oh well, can't say I haven't tried but I don't think we'll be making it this year. As we can't decide anywhere else to go, think we'll be hitting travel agents up a couple of weeks before our dates and see where in the world we end up. I'll be gutted though if they offer us a last minute cheap deal to Florida when I've cancelled my Disney booking though! Sods law no doubt!

Glasgow have Thomson flights 8th to 22nd Sept for £548.98 or 15th to 29th for £558.98. Sorry don't know your exact dates. Good luck

I saw that this morning, actually. I'm sure Thomson have been £700+ previous to this. Those are the dates we're looking at (anything inclusive of 6th to 22nd) but to go to Sanford it'd have to be a better saving for us as we don't drive when over there, we'd be better off paying the extra £70 each to fly into MCO and get ME.

I'm losing hope now anyway :( Disney balance is due next month so we only have a couple of weeks left. I really will be gutted though if there's last minute deals when we've already lost our Disney booking.

I found September to be cheaper than May due to school holidays, mainly!

September is my favourite time of year to go, the weather is beautiful (sunny and very little rain compared to May/June and comparatively quiet to other times of year.

Hope you get the flight prices you need. We also bought a house after booking our last trip and had to tighten purse strings, but hopefully it will be doable (even if it means living off packet noodles and beans on toast until September) ;)

I thought September would be a good bet as well but there doesn't seem to be any budge in price :( Have even looked at going from Manchester, etc. but there's not enough of a difference to make it worth our while!

Have started looking at other holidays but absolutely nothing we're interested in that isn't just as much as Florida!

PS. I'd be quite happy to live off noodles but the boyfriend isn't as dedicated to the cause!

I really hope you find something - I'm actually desperately trying to find cheap prices for September from Glasgow too so will let you know if I find anything!

We havent been planning a trip but my boyfriend stupidly suggested to me we could 'maybe' go if we could find flights around the £500 mark....I am now obsessed with going and cant stop thinking about it!

Best of luck and please dont be upset about it :( xx

Good luck to you too :goodvibes You sound alot like me....I seem to be searching flight prices constantly at the moment :surfweb:

American Airlines and Southwest are currently having a big sales event until Thursday. Even if you are flying into the country, it might be a way to get a really inexpensive flight from a major city, like New York to Orlando, rather than paying a more expensive amount if you have to make a connecting flight.
