September 2011 - The Planning Continues! (2nd Thread)

It has been a crazy hot summer all over the country. We always taught the girls at camp if their pee is yellow, they are not drinking enough water. (Good tip for everyone, really). Most kids just don't remember to stop to drink.

So we are having a huge heat wave here, with the heat index temps are above 100 degrees and expected to climb higher later this week. Of course, this is the week DD has GS camp :scared1:

She managed today but they stay outside all day in the heat...no air conditioning anywhere at all, she was wiped out when we picked her up and a little dehydrated. We gave her 2 huge bottles of water but she only drank one and was complaining of a headache

Right now she's in the pool :) but I just hope the rest of the week goes well. I know that I couldn't manage all day in this heat being outside like she does!

So, with all the camps and DD turning 8 this Friday we are carzy busy so I haven't had much time for my daily Disney obsession  lol

Hope to be back on the Disney track soon!

Happy birthday {early} to your daughter! We're having the same heat wave here in lower Michigan. Our heat index got up to 117 today.

Well ladies, we are cancelling our trip. With my mom's health, issues with our daughter's schooling, and (sad to say) past year's behaviour issues with our kids - we just are not going. :sad1:

So, L-Harper, if you could please - remove us from the September list. Thank you.

I hope everyone has a wonderful trip!!! :wizard:

AND, I will have a BUNCH of ADRs to cancel in the upcoming week or so. They include 3 different Ohana's, 2-1900 Park Avenue, a Garden Grill, CP breakfast, etc.

Yes, multiple reservations. Please - no flames. I've been stressed out enough these past few months. I *know* it's bad form but I was really really hoping for a minor miracle that we would still be able to make our kid-free trip. But I also had to be prepared to have 4 of us instead of 2...

In any case, I thought I would offer up the ADRs to those of you here before posting them on the September cancellation thread first. I will post them this week. Ohh, our original trip dates were Sept 19 - 28th. LOL - it just occured to me that everyone here is most likely already reading the Sept ADR cancellation thread anyways!

At least the good news is that my husband agreed to have our front living room bow window replaced since our trip is being cancelled. :)
It's still the original wood frame from 30 years ago. No screens! Ugh.

What a bummer! :sad2: Sorry you had to cancel! I didn't know a cancellation thread existed!! Can you post a link for me in case I can't find it on my own please? Since we rearranged our dates, I've been stalking the reservation system for Ohana and CRT!! Thank you!!! :thumbsup2

Didn't I read that you are celebrating your 10th anniversary at Disney this September? My DH and I are as well.

YES!! we are so excited...we disneymooned and well 9/11/01 was the full 1st day of our trip...not so much fun-especially since we were NYers at the time-and were freaking out about getting in touch with family/friends back home. Parks got closed we were shuffled back to the resorts, and when they reopened 2 days later we were hit with a tropical depression and it poured the rest of our trip. So, we are gonna try again....

Happy Anniversary to you!!!! In this day and age with so many divorces its nice to hear stories of others making it work and keeping the committment! Marriage is work! I commend everyone that works so hard to keep it going. Congratulations

Does anyone know if they have a rule against swim rings in the disney pools? Our 3 year old discovered that he could manuever himself around the deep water in a ring and he's so much easier to contain with one! It's a starfish shaped one and not very big...
Thanks for asking, I was wondering the same thing.

I was on hold with Disney to ask a question for myself when I came upon this while waiting I asked and was told: "People may bring floats and other pool toys to play with as long as they are not obnoxious to other patrons. Disney provides swim jackets for children free of charge at the resort pool area, but it is ok to bring your own rings, tubes and arm floats!" :thumbsup2
Thanks for answering! Yay!!!!!

Thank you!!! That thread will be easier to stalk than the reservation system! :rotfl:

I stalk the reservation system like crazy. I mean every time I go online I open mozilla, then internet explorer JUST for the reservation system because since I downloaded the new mozilla the res system won't run on it.

So then I enter the same four or five searches every single time I go on the computer. Last night one of them opened up and I almost passed out. DH was sitting next to me and I am pretty sure he thought we won the lotto because I was very enthusiastic :rolleyes1

But yeah, stalking that board is fun and since you only need ADRs for 2 you may find what you are looking for :thumbsup2

So sorry to hear about your trip getting cancelled, DaniB! I hope your next trip will be extra fabulous because of waiting though.

Here in Milwaukee it's been 95-100 degrees as well. Ugh! I'm trying to think "it won't be worse than this on our trip, I can handle this!" since it's been pretty humid too. But all this heat. Ick!

I have finished 3 out of the 5 dresses I'm making for DD for the trip so feeling better about all I have to get done! I have a lot of freezer paper stenciling ahead of me though. My MNSSHP "costume" is a purple shirt with the Haunted Mansion wallpaper stenciled on it--no, I'm not "going" as a wall from the HM! :lmao: I just wanted a spooky themed shirt and I :lovestruc that place. So that will take me a while too.

We bit the bullet and took DD (21 months) to Winnie-the-Pooh today for her first movie and it went really well! How nice that Disney made a 60 minute theatrical release :)!

In 2 months from right now I should be asleep in my king sized bed at POR!

Disney could make the reservation system easier to search.....like allowing you to put in dates for a whole week and then search for ANY times available that week at that restaurant. I hate going day by day and breakfast, lunch, dinner times all separate. lol :confused3

I totally agree. There are certain meals I am flexible about which day I could go to and I remember being able to have a window for when I would want to go, instead of having to have a separate search for each day, last time we went, in 09. Oh well, maybe one day they will bring that option back... unless I am dreaming it :rotfl:

Yuck it is so hot here too...I didn't even want to go get the mail today! Hahahaha! But I'm glad I did...I had Mickey mail! Our custom maps came today! :yay:

Your shirt sounds like it's going to be cute! :thumbsup2

Oh I want to take my girls to Winnie the Pooh as well...my youngest just turned 2...I didn't realize it was only 60 minutes! She can handle that!! :)

My oldest is going on the disney dream this weekend with her grandparents then off to the beach for 2 days then Disney. So she gets a addtional 2 week vacation. LOL So dh and I are brining my youngest to Pooh Bear this weekend. I may bring her to our local amusment park if dh has to work one of the days. The I need to come up with something to do with her next weekend. The amusment park we have season passes to along with the water park. But last weekend it was so crowded we only stayed 10-3. I cannot handle the waterpark being over crowded.

Dani B-Sorry about you trip. :sad2:

We got married on 9/15 (my birthday) and yes it was a nightmare. Trying to finish all the wedding preparations and revise the plan daily was hard. One of my bridesmaids and DH's sister couldn't get in because they were from California and there was just no way. We didn't honeymoon til our 5th anniversary (London so I'm not complaining) due to life, jobs, having kids, buying a house, etc.

I think the secret is getting married *after* you develop a clue about what you want and need in a relationship. I didn't get married til I was 28 (that birthday anniversary thing is great for helping me keep track!) and was looking for some key elements in a relationship along with love and respect.

I also think that younger people have an unrealistic expectation of what it's like to be married. Yes it is work. Sometimes you have to bite your tongue and be kind enough to spare your partner's feelings, even when you are angry and trust that they will do the same for you.

Congratulations to you too! We discovered a couple of years ago that DH adores Disney and so I've been trying to figure out how to work in at least one trip a year for him! This will be the second time we've celebrated our anniversary with the Mouse!

I dont know! I married my DH (met on the internet) after dating for 9 months. I was 17 when we got engaged and 18 when we got married. I am 28 now and we now have 3 kids and just celebrated our 10 year anniversary in May. Not saying it was never hard, but I wouldnt have had it any other way!

I wanted t share the name of a book I have been given to review for disney that looks really neat

Walt Disney World Adventure: A Field Guide and Activity Book for Explorers

I havent used it yet since we havent gone but it looks like a very neat way to get to know facts about the park and throw in a bit of educational value.

I met my DH when I was 17, and this year will be our 17th wedding anniversary! I am thrilled to have been with him for half of my life at 34. It definitely hasn't been easy all of the time, but we're both too stubborn to give up too terrible easy! I also wouldn't change a thing; I was more grown up at 17 than a lot of 30 year olds! :lmao:

:headache:
Congrats to those adding days!!!

Right now, I am just hoping things turn around and I don't have to cancel ours!

I hope you don't have to cancel, think happy thoughts!

Thank you, she has ripped stockings, etc picked out to go with, I'm so excited. :rolleyes1 She bought a fake lip ring yesterday and wants to know if that's piratey? argh.

I'm totally with you on dreading school to start back! It starts here on the 11th of August. I'm not ready!!! I have enjoyed sleeping in this summer.
Tell her sure, the lip ring is piratey!:rotfl: I haven't slept in all summer, the girls say it's against my religion (I'm a pathological early bird), but I hate to rush them around in the morning. My youngest DD is a very cranky morning person, so it's just joy all of the way around. :rolleyes1 I just hate anyone else being in charge of their day like that. We considered homeschooling this year, and the 14 year old social butterfly was quick to veto that. :lmao: So, off to school we go ont he 17th. Ugh. :headache:

For those that have found the personal spray fans at Walmart, what section did you find them in? I walked all over yesterday and couldn't find them, and of course no one that worked there knew where they might be either.

For those of you who found your true loves at 17, that's impressive! Most of the young people I knew were not at all who they turned out to be as adults! And the ones who did marry, ended up divorced after 5 years or so.

But I do stand corrected, it depends entirely on the individuals involved! I know 50 year olds that I wouldn't wish on anyone as a spouse and a few 20 somethings that are mature and responsible people who will make wonderful partners for the right person.

I actually met the man I eventually married when I was 19. He was married to someone else, though! When she finished her phd in biochemistry she decided that she really wasn't meant to be married to him and asked for a divorce. It took me a couple of months to convince him to go out with me (there's a 13 year age difference for one thing) but I finally talked him into it! Most people have antagonistic relationships with exes...but I figure she did me a big favor!

It's official! Our vacation is not our own anymore!! :scared1:

My FIL, SIL, BIL, and nephew will be joining us for part of our vacation. They are staying at the Poly and I think we have actually figured out ADRs.

We were trying to figure out a few before I realized that I didn't cancel some of the ADRs that I had booked for us before my FIL decided to join us, so we are just keeping those for DH's sister and her family and we'll try to get seated close together.

DH and I have decided that we will give them our basic itinerary for the time that they are there and if they want to join us, great! If not, they can do what they prefer to do. DSIL and DBIL are first time parents and they are very concerned about taking their little one. They kept saying that they weren't going to take him until he is 5 (he will be about 20 months when we go). We keep telling them that we are there to help. We've taken DD2 three times already! We've got it down! Nothing to worry about! :lmao:

If you happen to be at Via Napoli on Wed, 9/21, look out for our ginormous group of 13 trying to get seated fairly close. We had to split it to 8 and 5 with our fingers crossed. I'm expecting a madhouse! lol

I checked my dining reservations today and it lists a reservation I never even heard of, let alone made!

I had made a reservation at Kouzzina and it says I have a reservation for Chef's Menu at CoraNation for $60 pp. Ever hear of it? I am cancelling it, I just don't know how it switched from a kouzzina res to that.

QUOTE]

That happened to me too... I think it's a computer glitch. The Cora Nation dinners are later in the evening. I had a 5pm Kouzzina reservation that said Kouzzina every time...... suddenly it says Cora Nation etc... I canceled it and rebooked it online... Online it says I booked Kouzzina. When I pull up the reservation, it says Cora Nation. Disney's web site is a mess sometimes.

Our reservation is at 5:15 and when I went to cancel it, it confirms as Kouzzina, so I haven't cancelled it yet. I figure I'll give Disney a call and see if I actually have a reservation at Kouzzina or CoraNation.
.

After reading this I checked mine, and the same thing shows up. I'm calling to confirm it today. Because I don't want to cancel and rebook! I worked hard to get that ADR!!

We are going to Six Flags Great America...and I have NO plan!!! We have been there before, but our girls have not.... I have no clue what kind of kids rides there are, etc! They have ride descriptions on their website, but its isn't really much...

I am sure we will have fun...but it is pretty weird to go in blind! Unlike how we go to Disney! :rolleyes1 Ha! :lmao:

I wish we had! :rotfl:

We had some fun moments at Six Flags, but it wasn't as fun as we expected.
There were signs everywhere that said it was the cleanest park in the world...I'm assuming WDW wasn't on the list to vote for because there is NO WAY it is cleaner than Disney! And they load and unload the rides SO slowly! It was CRAZY!

They say they have a family atmosphere, however, the shows had a lot of adult humor. Nothing terribly crude, and it all went over my kids head...but it still shocked me a bit. I was most shocked though by how people were dressed! Girls were walking around with their shorts unbuttoned and unzipped! I saw this more than a few times! There were SO many shirts with inappropriate sayings as well...one that stuck in my mind a high school age boy... "My better half (with an arrow pointing down)" My 6 year old can of course read and was asking what that means. :scared1: Ugh... I don't really think of myself as prudish or anything I just think there are certain things that aren't appropriate in a "family setting"

I know it isn't Disney World, and it isn't fair to compare the two...but it just reaffirmed to me how much I love WDW! Ha! :earsgirl:

We go to Six Flags Great America every year because my boyfriend's uncle lives near Gurnee and so he can get his roller coaster fix in. I get excited about going but once I get there it fades fast-due to the dirty park, crowds (rude, and as you mentioned ridiculously dressed), overpriced bad food, etc. I try to be positive about it and use it as practice for Disney as far as the walking and line waiting! Haven't ever bought the flash pass, but we may next time we go because we got our tickets really cheap...its just hard to justify though if we have other family or friends along with to ask them to do the same, since it is so expensive!

It has been a crazy hot summer all over the country. We always taught the girls at camp if their pee is yellow, they are not drinking enough water. (Good tip for everyone, really). Most kids just don't remember to stop to drink.

Good advice. They say half the time you're hungry, you're really just thirsty,,,so that if you drink a glass of water and wait,,,it will curb your hunger and help with over eating!

WOW! Had to catch up on almost 20 pages worth! Busy busy summer! Next 2 months are all about prepping for Disney though!! I want to start packing so badly! But don't want to put aside certain clothes that i may use in the meantime!
