September 2011 - The Planning Continues! (2nd Thread)

I would love to be a SAHM; we managed for a while when the girls were very small, but it was impossible for us to pay what needed to be paid with just DH working. We both are very active in our parenting, and we spend as much time being a family as possible. We're one of those weird couples that never takes a weekend alone, or an overnight trip, because we like our kids' company!:rotfl: That's the biggest part of this trip for Chris and I; full and unmitigated time with our ladies.
And it definitely is getting close to time, thank goodness! My printer is giving me attitude with some of the iron on transfers for our shirts; they keep coming out like a yellow greenish tint! I want to figure out what's causing it so I can finish those, and get them all packed away! 74 days to go here, why can't it be tomorrow??:cool1::cool1::cool1::cool1:

Thought I would share too....
I was a SAHM who opened a home business 21 years ago, so I could be with my kids and make an income. My DH quit his day job 13 years ago and came home to work with me. (which is why it is okay to take a vacation without him - we are together ALL the time ) It has been a lot of work, money a bit tight at times, but very rewarding. While not feasible for many people, it has been worth the sacrifice for us. BTW, I do find women who can bring home the bacon, fry it up and still etc. etc. etc. incredible. You go girls! :cheer2:

Yay! Other homeschooling families! I know full time working parents as well as single parents who homeschool. It can be done :) I imagine it is alot of work, but it is possible. PS since I can not post links google me "molding minds homeschool". I blog and give away alot of cool stuff.

On being a SAHM, I can tell you that I was making good money, then I had kids. By the time I added in child care, cost to and from work, lunches, wardrobe and so on, I would have been bringing home a whopping -$5!!!! I would have actually be LOOSING money! I am not saying you all haven't but I wonder how many moms, if they took the time to figure it all out, would find out they really aren't making enough to make it worth working?

On a Disney note, I am buying the kids all new clothing and was considering starting to pack. I won't let them wear the new stuff anyways and I feel like things are getting closer if I start to pack. How far in advance will you pack?

Ticker check!

It's been a busy weekend again...please indulge me for one proud mama moment :goodvibes...DD's elementary class sang the National Anthem at the White Sox vs Minnesota Twins game on Sunday, it was such a great experience for the kids, the parents, and our school :cool1: I'm so proud of her!:lovestruc

As far as working, I'm mostly a SAHM and have been since my oldest was born. I do, however, work per diem, so I work a minimum of 1 weekend day a month and then I can also pick up extra hours when needed(ie to fill in for staff vacations, etc) So, I kind of get the best of both worlds...I stay home with the kids and can make some extra money on the side with no huge time commitment but the flexibility to earn more if I want to and I also keep my skills up :goodvibes DH works nights so we spend a ton of family time together during the day...he just doesn't get much sleep though.

Love seeing the slider on my ticker 3/4 the way to the end :yay:

well you convinced me! I starting packing yesterday. just shy of the 2 month mark :rotfl: I put together some door/Window decorations and little extras.
I dunno what I'm more excited for the new star tours 3D ride or TSM! Either way our first stop is Hollywood Studios.

Dbf will not allow me to decorate:sad2:, but I think I will anyway!!:thumbsup2

We are most excited for the new Star Tours ride!! :woohoo:

58 days!!! I haven't started packing yet, however I have our stuff and outfits planned out and new stuff (shoes & purses/bags) bought.

That's awesome. I unfortunately have no marketable skills besides watching kids and cooking/baking so I am limited in my career choices lol

If I worked and needed daycare I would lose money too.

I started packing stuff awhile ago :rolleyes1 and have been adding the clothes I won't let the kids wear anyway.

I am a SAHM too, and homeschool both kids. At times it's a huge sacrifice since I'm giving up a pharmacist's salary to stay at home and homeschooling is very time consuming. At other times it's such a blessing, school is portable so we can take it anywhere we go. Which means we can head to Disney anytime and schedule the school work around it!
That is awesome. A lady at my church homeschools and said to me one day after I told her she's amazing--she said" I get the best of my kids days...you get them back after school has took all their good of the day" Now I am jealous..she's right...their best is in school and then they come home to me just spent and so I get their worst. So glad for you to be able to do this!!
I am another SAHM. It wasn't worth if for me to go back to work after I had my second dd. I would be working to pay daycare cost.

Everyone have a great day. :)
We decided when we had our first that I would stay home. We make sacrafices...only one car, we don't have fabulous landscaping, etc. But we do have a mom home when they need me, I work in the summers taking advantage of the tourists and I earn money for vacations, trampolines, pools, etc. My kids have everything they need especially ME!!!

TSM definately!!! We love that ride!!!! I see myself hitting HS twice just so the girls can hit that!:yay:

:scared1:Are you saying you haven't started packing yet? :rotfl:

I dont feel quite so crazy now :rotfl2: Today I am going to start going through what I have purchased to see whatelse they need and I may, start putting it into the suitcases. Are beach towels at Walmart starting to go on sale yet? My son needs a Disney towel.

We have 2 cars but no car payments. That is about to change dh truck is a 1999 and so he is going truck shoping this week. Nothing new hopefully around a 2008 or so. I have a 2006 dodge caravan. We only keep 1 car payment at a time. I should say I'm a WAHM I do have a couple of kids I watch full time. But nothing big.

Too funny....I was just thinking this past weekend that I really need to get the suitcases out to get stuff packed!!! My DH thinks I am crazy :scared1: but without me, where would he be?:love: I do ALL of the planning:surfweb: :thumbsup2 Happy packing to the rest of our September group!!:thumbsup2
67 more days!!!!:cool1::cool1:

Same here. I am a SAHM and DH works, and is now back in school full time as well. I am thinking of getting a part time job just because Long Island is so expensive and we are hoping to move at the end of next year.. it would be nice to have some extra emergency money for the move. Plus once we move I would not be able to work bc I dont feel comfortable leaving my child with someone I dont know in a state that I really dont know.
So would you be moving out-of-state? If so, what state are you considering (if you don't mind sharing)? NY is expensive, especially Long Island!

That's how I am. :) I'm sure DH wouldn't mind a couples-only vacation every once in awhile. But I have a hard time leaving them. It's just more fun with the whole gang!

You have such an adorable blog! I love it! I just started following you, I'm Mrs. Bee. DH and I have been contemplating homeschooling since before we even got pregnant with our first. Now that our oldest is 4, we really need to decide soon. He went to a cooperative preschool last year and will go to the same school this year. I cannot believe that he will be in K next year. :( I really need to lay out the pros and cons for our family.

It all depends on where DH can secure a job. We are mostly focusing on Texas, as there seems to be a lot of employment oppertunities as well as low cost of housing. We also were looking at North Carolina, Arizona, and Illinois just because of the job outlook for accountants in these areas. If we stay here we will NEVER own our own house and be able to travel and do things as a family. It is way to expensive here!!

I love it already!

Wow, that's big time! Congratulations!

We moved from DC, where home ownership would have been a huge money drain, to North Carolina. We love it. My DH is from Texas. I'm attached at the hip to New England and the East Coast. For us, North Carolina won in terms of location and affordability. Plus, it's within driving distance of Disney!! Best wishes with whatever you choose!

you can also use Disney's Photopass and upload your vacation photos and make a photobook on the website. It takes like 2 weeks to get it after completion. Its like $75.00 or something. We did one 2 years ago-we are definitely doing it again this year. its awesome.
