Hi everyone! I just got back last night from my twelfth trip to Disney. I stayed at Pop Century this time, from Sunday September 11th until Friday September 16th. I did not have a dining plan this time.

Overall I thought the food was good this trip, but nothing remarkable for the most part, though there were a few highlights. I do have pictures, but I don't have access to my laptop yet, or my camera cord, so it may be a few days before I get any pictures, but I will come back and add them when I can.

I ate mainly vegetarian this trip, sometimes vegan, and one meal with fish.

It seems our trips always just miss overlapping. Maybe someday they will, and we could meet!

You know I'm in! I cannot wait to see your pics from The Wave breakfast

The first meal of my trip was at Mama Melrose's with the Fantasmic dinner package. I was a little worried about not making it, since you just never know about delays and stuff when you fly, but I had a very early morning flight, which actually landed early, and I was checked in at Pop, and at the Studios by noon. My ADR wasn't until 2:15, so I had plenty of time to spare. Crowds were low that day, and I actually managed to get quite a few attractions in before my meal, including Toy Story Midway Mania with only a half an hour wait.

When I arrived at Mama Melrose's, there were a few tables full, but it was by no means busy. This was actually a common occurence throught my trip, most restaurants were not busy at all, and this was in the middle of free dining, so that suprised me. I was seated about two minutes after I checked in.

I had originally intended to try and eat entirely vegan this trip. Yeah, that didn't happen. The next two days I was pretty good about it, but that day, when I had been up since 3:00 AM, and had eaten nothing but a granola bar at the airport, I really just wanted to eat, and didn't want to spend time having to explain my dietary choices and figuring out what I could and couldn't have, so I just didn't mention it, nor was I asked, and I just ordered off the regular menu.

Service here was kind of scattered. They seemed to have many people working, and it looked like the servers only had one or two tables each, but it was still very off. My server inparticular just seemed to be very odd. It started off being a bit confusing when I mentioned something about being on the Fantasmic dinner package, and he had to go and ask someone about that, whether he was checking if I was actually on it, or what the package was, I'm not sure, but he did seem very confused. Between my appetizer and entree he was polite and effecient, but by the time I got to dessert, I felt rushed and felt like he was being kind of rude. When I ordered dessert, he walked up to take my order, and said "go ahead." Which I guess doesn't sound that rude typing it out like that, but the tone he used made me feel like he was doing me a favor by gracing me with his prescence and taking my order. He also had a bad habit of just dropping my food off without even stopping. He would literally continue walking by as he put the food down. And I don't think he ever asked how anything was, except he did manage to refill my drink at some point, and he was fine before dessert, but then I just seemed to be an annoyance to him.

Anyway, on to the food, which is what you're all really here to find out about. On the Fantasmic dinner package I was entitled to an appetizer, entree, and dessert. And a non-alcoholic non-speciality beverage, which was either diet Coke or iced tea, not sure what I had t each meal, but those were always my drinks of choice.

For my appetizer I had the mixed greens salad.

It was a nice plate full of spring mix, no iceburg lettuce here, with candied walnuts, pear slices, and blue cheese, with cherry vinaigrette. The lettuce was fresh, but I felt like it didn't have enough dressing. The pear was hard, and could've been more then a bit more ripe. The candied walnuts were tasty, but there wasn't enough of them, literally maybe four or five walnut pieces on the entire plate. The dressing was tasty, but like I said, it could've used more. The blue cheese, aside from the lettuce, was the only thing I liked that I thought there was enough of. Overall it's a decent salad, but I wouldn't make a point of having it again. Maybe if I were on a plan that included an appetizer anyway, but not something I'd pay for.

For my entree I had the wild mushroom and arugula flatbread, with balsamic onions, and goat cheese pesto.

Aside from the pile of arugula on top, which just kind of wilted as it sat in front of me, extremely unappetizing, lettuce just does not need to be on pizza, this was fantastic! It was so rich and decadant. Usually I'm not a huge fan of mushrooms, and maybe it was the pesto just completely overpowered them, in which case, more power to the pesto, but I really liked this. The onions were noticeable, but kind of tasteless, or like the mushrooms, maybe overpowered by the pesto. Really all I could taste was garlic and the cheese, but that's okay by me! The crust was good, a little burnt on one side inparticular, and had way too much flour on the bottom, as I was constantly brushing it off, but it was very tasty.

For dessert I had the tiramisu panna cotta.

It's described on the menu as coming with lady fingers and a coffee-flavored sauce. The sauce was the same consitency as water, and not at all pleasant, and the lady fingers, though it seemed to be just one slab of some kind of cake, was completely soaked through, and had no texture whatsoever. The panna cotta by itself was all right, but the rest of the dessert was so dissapointing.

Overall I like Mama Melrose's. For me it's worth going to just for the flatbreads, but I'd rather have a light lunch here of just a flatbread, and forgo the rest of the meal.

I really like Pop Century. I think it's much better then the All Star resorts. Though the rooms are the same size and basic layout, I think it has a better, more central, location, it has it's own buses, unlike the All Stars, which usually share between the three resorts, and I think it has a better food court.

My room at Pop Century, 7124, in the 80's section, ground floor, right by the elevator.

Though I was fine with the actual room, and even liked that I had a poster with Ariel on it, I really did not like the location. It was quite far from the main building, and being right next to the elevator on the ground floor, I think everyone else who stayed in the same building passed my room at some point during the day.

Anyway, my first night, after getting back from the Studios, it had been about seven or so hours since I'd eaten, and I was strating to get hungry again. It was just before 10:00 PM, and I was glad, because that meant all the food stations were still open. Most close at 10:00 PM, and I think only the burger station stays open later for hot food.

I decided to get something I had learned on the DIS was vegan, the vegetable lo mein.

I also bought my refillable mug this night, if anyone cares.

The lo mein was fine. It was a very generous portion, and I could barely finish it, but I thought the sauce could be a little more flavorful. And there could of been more veggies. I actually think it's almost kind of a bait and switch, cause the big bowl they have sitting behind the counter has mounds of fresh veggies on top, but when they serve they dig under and pull out mostly noodles. It also had a very heavy pepper taste to it.

I wouldn't go out of my way to have it again, but if I stay at Pop again, and want a quick and filling dinner, this would be an option.

Signing in - we go to MM for the first time this trip - have to admit I was tempted by the pannacotta until I saw your pic and it doesn't rock my boats :( Loving the reviews though

So glad you reviewed Mama Melrose but now I'm even more torn about eating there! :confused3

That dessert is probably the worst thing I ate during the whole trip.

I'd go. I believe in trying everything at least once for myself. I would just warn you to stay away from that dessert, cause I really didn't like it that much at all. The flatbreads have always been really good there.

I'm in! Great job so far! :goodvibes
Welcome!

No veggies in a veggie lo mein??? Thats heinous! :lmao:

There were veggies. Don't you see the little piece of what I think was bok choy, sticking out in the bottom corner? And I think there was a pea somewhere in there too. My other meal at Pop I liked much better, it came with veggies I could see.

I spent my first full day at the Magic Kingdom. I didn't have an AP or a hopper pass this trip, and with only four full days, I spent one day at each park, plus my first evening at the Studios, and my last morning at the Magic Kingdom again, though looking back, I wish I'd gone to Epcot my first night, as I really feel I didn't have enough time there. I also will never go without a hopper pass or AP again. I didn't like being stuck to one park each day, and by the next day, which I spent at AK, by that night I was wishing I had the hopper option, though by then my trip was already half over, and I was too cheap to spend the extra $50 for it for a few days. Next year I'm getting an AP again.

Anyway, I skipped breakfast my first morning. I meant to get something to eat, but by the time I was dressed and ready to go, it was already going on 8:30, and I did not want to miss rope drop. Though I don't care about the opening shows at the other parks, I really like the one at MK, and try and make a point of seeing it.

I started my morning in Frontierland, then Liberty Square, and Fantasyland, before deciding I was very hungry. I had a lunch ADR in about an hour at Liberty Tree Tavern, but didn't feel like I could wait that long to eat, so I decided to find a snack.

Pecos Bill's was already open, so I decided to get some fries or something. When I got in the restaurant, I saw they had onion rings on their menu, which I don't remember them having before this trip, though I don't think I ate there last year, so maybe they've had them awhile, and I just haven't noticed before now. But it does seem like a lot of menus changed right before, during, and after my trip.

Of course I had to get the onion rings, I'll pick them over fries any day.

These were good, but they were a little over-fried, and pretty greasy. They were still pretty filling though.

Unfortunatly, they filled me up too much, and I ended up cancelling Liberty Tree Taver, cause I couldn't imagine eating a whole sit down meal less then an hour later.

Peco Bills has onion rings now???? OMG I am soooo getting those, they are my weakness

I spent a few more hours at MK after my snack at Pecos Bill's. Pirates of the Caribbean was down, so I didn't spend much time in that area, and instead headed over to Tomorrowland, and rode the Tomorrowland Transit Authority, hoping to see some of the construction of Fantasyland from there. Aside from when it passes the Speedway, you really can't. I had much better luck when I rode Dumbo a few days later, but I was really hoping to see more of what was going on behind the walls.

Around 1:00 I started to get a little tired, and decided to take a break. I already had done most of my must-dos, and I knew I'd be able to get in more later that evening, and that I had another morning at MK later in my trip, and that I'd feel better if I didn't spend the afternoon in the park. My one semi-regret of taking a break was that I would miss the afternoon parade, but I'd seen it many times before, and crowds at the parades always annoy me with the way people will act. So I headed back to Pop.

I decided to get something to snack on since I figured the onion rings I'd had at Pecos Bill's a few hours before wouldn't be enough to hold me over until dinner, so I picked up a side of hummus.

Sorry no picture.

It was all right as far as hummus goes, but it wasn't very smooth and creamy. I'm pretty partial to certain brands of hummus at home, Sabra being my favorite, and this just didn't compare to that. Still, it gave me some protein, which I didn't have a lot of this trip, and held me over until dinner, which is what I needed it to do.
