Uh, oh.....you shouldn't have asked about the pin debacle :sad2:

okay...here goes...REPO Cruise....a repositioning cruise in which the ship changes home ports...in our case DCL sailed out of California for the summer of 2005.....and the pin debacle....Disney in their wisdom did not order enough of the special port pins for the first repo cruise in May...which resulted in long lines and a lot of complaints at the beginning of our cruise. Disney decided to hand out all the pin vouchers one morning at 8 am...by 10 pm the night before the line had already started to form....so some of us joined the line and stayed up all night on the ship in the halls waiting for our pin vouchers. Some of us made the best of it and had a blast and others that it was the worst thing. Disney got smarter and ordered more than enough pins for the August repo cruise. There you have it in a nutshell.

…do you know what the appx rates are for a family of 5, cat 4 room? I’ve read where some have been able to get the price down and was wondering how to go about doing that.

thanks!!

I was wondering if anyone had feedback on this? Any Category 4 (5 people) cruisers out there and appx how much did you pay? Just trying to get an idea as to what to expect?

Elaine, thanks for the info!

I camped out for Star Wars Episode I in Hollywood Mann's Chinese Theatre and raised money for the Starlight Foundation so that would have been noooo problem for me :-)

:rotfl2: Some people just can't let the little pin mistake go :rotfl2:

is that cruise only or does that include airfare?

ahhhhh..hmmm ok well that's what I was seeing on the website. I was just wondering if others had ways of getting discounts as i had seen various comments about renegotiating or somehow lowering the price once on board.

Also booking in advance, i was wondering if the price had been lower if booked long ago and if it were better to wait for any 2007 dates?

Another concern.....since its in the middle of hurricane season...is anyone concerned that they will be spending all this money and not get to see any ports? I had read some posts about this and its a huge chunk of change but considering its the only sailing for the southern caribbean trip i guess there is not much choice. Anyone know how many trips were affected by the hurricanes this past year?

guess i'm being a bit cautious but thought maybe some veterans out there could help with these questions....

WOW!! Peter, I never knew that! The Mickey Slide would have been FUN... especially since we didn't have a lot of children on our cruise.

Okay, now that I am caught up! Wow- you guys have been busy! We just returned from our short trip to WDW- last Thurs night through yesterday afternoon. I will recap for those who don't know...
I was going to do the half marathon at WDW in celebration for my 32 birthday last week- but sustained a knee injury during the year. Thus- I had decided not to do it. However- a few events happened on the day before the race that made me decide to try it. I thought I would get picked up early for not making time- as I had not trained. To make a long story short- I finished! We also had a great dinner with Andy and Char who are going on this cruise and Eric and Renea from the May repo cruise.

Here is a picture of Pluto as I ran by him- taken with my cell phone.

Tracy- the newsletter was great! Hope you have a great time on your cruise. You too Peter!
There was also a "Carribean deck party" hosted by DCL at the 3 mile mark....too funny! But it was nice to hear the ships horn, see some pirates, and grab some water.

I see in the newsletter that there was a request for a CD burner to transfer pictures to CD. I was planning on bringing my portable burner and am willing to burn for other people. I can bring a bunch of blanks but can not gurantee enough for everyone. I also have a card reader that handles most of the types of cards that are out there.

I too will probably have my computer- I can burn CD and/or DVD. I have a memory stick port on my computer if anyone else uses such devices. I know Linda used my computer last cruise and she was able to burn stuff. Just an FYI.....I always have my comptuer as I need it for grad school.

OOPS - sorry -didn't mean to offend anyone with regard to the pins. We didn't have any issue with the pins ourselves. :earsboy: We just thought it a bit interesting how it became such an issue on that cruise.

I personally am not too concerned abiut the hurricanes. We encountered Hurricane Hillary on the Aug repo - we missed Cabo San Lucas but DCL quickly rescheduled a new port of call complete with excursions..I was disappointed to miss Cabo but we had fun nonetheless.

I think the one port that may cause some concern is Castaway Cay due to the logistics - I know some sailings have had to miss that last stop.

Re: booking and getting a lower price. It's been my experience that the price is the same regardless of time of booking - but that may be because of cabin category. Since this is a special sailing - it may be even more difficult to get a better price.

Peter is very good at helping people out....aka me. Thanks again for the Palo reservations! ;)

IMONSO - your best bet to get a quote is to go to the actual DCL website. You might find a travel agent who can quote a lower rate because they book a group of cabins, but for a ballpark figure just go there.

I can only tell you what I am paying for only two adults in a Cat 9. I have no idea what anything else costs.
