Hi everyone,

To me, Disney is all about "Making dreams come true". Tonight, I just had my biggest dream come true. I can't believe that I just got home from the Barbra Streisand Concert. Wow. Philadelphia is the start of her tour. It truly is a dream come true. Words cannot possibly describe how fantastic she is. I could sit there for another 3 hours just listening to her. I can't believe that I actually saw her perform. For me, this was a once in a lifetime dream.

Back to reality, I have to go to work (my first day back) in 5 hours.

Take care,

Bev :sunny:

This sounds really kind of cool....

... I've always enjoied live performances by great classic performers and Barbara Streisand would certainly qualify as one of them. Next weekend I'm taking my family to the Catalina Jazz Festival - same as I have for several years and we get 5 concerts of paired sets. In effect 10 performances. The venue is very intimate - and even so our seats are row one. SO - I do enjoy the performing arts (in varied forms). I'll have to look into Streisands' schedule to see when she will be in my region and maybe I'll try and catch one of her shows! Of course, my weekend will not feature anyone with Streisands' fame... but it will do for us as another pleasant diversion.

And here is an interesting article I found on her return to the concert circuit which was just published yesterday!

The reading on this is kind of interesting.... so I posted it whole here but in reduced point size to minimize the space consumed....

Babra Streisand
Updated: [October 4, 2006 ] :: 11:16:10 [view 255]
Barbra Streisand returns to stage after 6 years
L.A. - After 6 years of having said good bye to the stage. Babra returns to the stage today to launch her first proper concert tour in well over a decade, and the biggest of her career.

After six years of declaration that she was giving up live performances. This will be only the second national tour by Streisand, launched a Grammy-winning recording career and won her first Oscar in the 1968 musical "Funny Girl."

She has confirmed that she was able to over come the stage fright that made her a virtual stranger to the concert circuit for years, Streisand, 64, says her returned was motivated mainly by her desire to raise money for her favorite charities. The money will be distributed through her own philanthropic foundation. "That‘s the main reason I‘m going back on the road now," she said.

A source revealed that Streisand plans to hand out $10 million from this tour donating to environmental research, education and health issues. The former President Bill Clinton‘s Climate Change Initiative would be the first to receive $ 1 million.

She is expecting on profit that could gross up to $90 million at the box office for this latest performance. Hoping to sell out 16,000 seats on the opening night at Wachovia Center in Philadelphia. Ticket is selling at an average of $275, with individual seats ranging from $100 to $750, said tour‘s promoters.

Live performances by Streisand are rare, and she has many devoted fans, most of whom came of age at the height of her popularity in the 1960s and ‘70s, when songs like "The Way We Were," "People" and "Evergreen" were hits. Sources said that " we don‘t get a lot of chances of see Barbra Streisand live.

She doesn‘t tour very frequently at all, and when she does, it‘s a limited engagement." Streisand is America‘s biggest-selling female recording star of all time, with a U.S. sales tally of 71 million albums. Her latest release, last year‘s "Guilty Pleasures," became her 50th gold-certified album.Winning an Academy Award for her 1968 film debut as Fanny Brice in the musical "Funny Girl" (she tied the Oscar vote for best actress that year with Katharine Hepburn in "The Lion in Winter"), Streisand also has a raft of Tony, Emmy and Grammy awards to her credit.

Yet her career as a live performer to date spans only about 70 concerts. Her last real tour in 1993-94 sold out 22 dates with ticket prices as high as $350. It grossed nearly $60 million and was widely credited with shattering the glass ceiling on concert prices, according to Billboard. In September 2000 she held 4 concerts as her farewell to live performing.

She said then that she wanted to spend more time with her actor-husband James Brolin, whom she married in 1998. Streisand will be joined on her comeback tour by the classical-pop vocal quartet Il Divo, who will perform separately as well as provide backing vocals on some numbers, though Streisand has stressed she will open the shows herself.

She also has said the upcoming concerts, while being held in arena-size venues, would feature less elaborate staging than in the past. She will be accompanied by a 58-piece orchestra for shows that blend her best-known hits with songs she has never performed in public.

And in a second article released by Reuters....

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Six years after declaring she was giving up live performances, Barbra Streisand returns to the stage on Wednesday to launch her first proper concert tour in well over a decade, and the biggest of her career.

It will be only the second national tour by Streisand in the four decades since she became the toast of Broadway, launched a Grammy-winning recording career and won her first Oscar in the 1968 musical "Funny Girl."

Insisting she has conquered the stage fright that made her a virtual stranger to the concert circuit for years, Streisand, 64, says her comeback tour was sparked mostly by her desire to raise money for her favorite charities. The money will be distributed through her own philanthropic foundation.

"That's the main reason I'm going back on the road now," she told Oprah Winfrey's O magazine.

According to one source close to the performer, Streisand plans to give around $10 million in proceeds from her 20-date, 16-city tour to such causes as environmental research, education and health issues.

Last month, she announced that former President Bill Clinton's Climate Change Initiative would be the first recipient, pledging a donation of $1 million.

Streisand also has proven a potent Democratic Party fund-raiser in recent years, helping generate millions through benefit appearances for the White House bids of former Vice President Al Gore and Massachusetts Sen. John Kerry.

Still, her latest tour remains a for-profit venture that could gross up to $90 million at the box office, based on the sellout of her opening night at the 16,000-seat Wachovia Center in Philadelphia.

Ticket prices average $275, with individual seats ranging from $100 to $750, said Fran Curtis, a spokeswoman for the tour's promoters.

Live performances by Streisand are rare, and she has many devoted fans, most of whom came of age at the height of her popularity in the 1960s and '70s, when songs like "The Way We Were," "People" and "Evergreen" were hits.

"She's an icon," said Ray Waddell of Billboard magazine. "It's kind of like the Super Bowl of concerts, particularly for her fans. You don't get a lot of chances of see Barbra Streisand live. She doesn't tour very frequently at all, and when she does, it's a limited engagement."

Streisand is America's biggest-selling female recording star of all time, with a U.S. sales tally of 71 million albums, according to the Recording Industry Association of America. Her latest release, last year's "Guilty Pleasures," became her 50th gold-certified album.

Winning an Academy Award for her 1968 film debut as Fanny Brice in the musical "Funny Girl" (she tied the Oscar vote for best actress that year with Katharine Hepburn in "The Lion in Winter"), Streisand also has a raft of Tony, Emmy and Grammy awards to her credit. Yet her career as a live performer to date spans only about 70 concerts.

Her last real tour in 1993-94 sold out 22 dates with ticket prices as high as $350. It grossed nearly $60 million and was widely credited with shattering the glass ceiling on concert prices, according to Billboard.

A set of four concerts in September 2000, billed as her farewell to live performing, grossed $27 million. She said then that she wanted to spend more time with her actor-husband James Brolin, whom she married in 1998.

Curtis said promoters were happy with sales for Streisand's latest tour and a number of venues had sold out.

But Gary Bongiovanni, editor of concert trade publication Pollstar, said sales were not at the fever pitch they had been in the past.

"It could be that her core fans who looked at her tour in '94 and again in 2000 as ... the chance of a lifetime to see her have opened their wallets and done it once and aren't as ready to do it again," he said.

Now the only thing is I not very excited about is inadvertantly linking my entertainment to political agendas or benefiting causes I am not clear on - as to who benefits and how it is being managed does matter a bit to me.

Thank You, for forming you own opinion!
I attended most meets even if I just watched or said hi to meet people!

We had a blast!

Peter & Jenn

:rotfl2: :lmao: In my defense, it was the talk of thongs for men and something vs. nothing under grass skirts and fraternities and drinks that got me seriously wondering. Then, add the talk of pajamas at breakfast (OK, my in-laws used to be hard core Harley bikers, and their pajama Christmas parties were beyond X-rated -- knew I never wanted to go to one of those and weren't sure how many might throw caution to the wind here). :lmao: :lmao: Just wondered if it was going to be more than I wanted my young'uns exposed to. But again, you all laid most of my fears to rest. A couple of y'all, though, still make me wonder ... :rotfl2: :rotfl2: JUST KIDDING!!!!!

Again, thank you.

I know, I need to finish it- but I have been SUPER busy, with loading this truck, trying to get my house clean (maid is MIA) and keeping my nephew. In a few days life will go back to normal (I hope) and I can get on with the show. Wait patiently.... I still haven't got to the good parts yet, like how my nutty husband decided on a whim to join DVC. OOOOH........ AAAAAH..........
