September 12, 2009 ~ Last Call for Tortola! Thread 3

We got them yesterday. We are southwest of you, approx 90 miles. We are straight west of Joliet on I 80 and straight south of DeKalb on Il 23. Hope you get your docs today! It makes it more real.

Something about Il must make people dream of Disney, as you, me, & Ian are all DVC members. :cutie:

Another DVC member here!!!! My parents own at SSR, VWL and BLT, so I'm DVC by association. We're making our first trip home to BLT in Nov. and I can't wait.

Does anyone else have DirecTV? Since we'll be gone for two and a half weeks at the beginning of the Fall season with all the new shows starting.....I'm thinking about using a feature that DirecTV offers.....you can go online and schedule your DVR to record shows. I have never used this before. I'm thinking about trying it out. Has anyone ever done this?

We do and I have. It works great. I also have a DirectTV app on my iPhone. I schedule shows while I'm on the bus and train.

:cool1::cool1:GOT CRUISE DOC'S TODAY - THANK YOU UPS MAN!!!!:cool1::cool1:

Still trying for Palo brunch - no luck again...... I'll keep trying. Where is that pixie dust when you need it? It's all good though.

I think you are right. My mom cooked everthing from scratch (canning was big at our house), catered weddings, sewed (made a liitle for a stay at home mom) and now she makes stuff for craft shows. She's the crafty one in my family. I could only wish I had 1/4 of her ability.

My mom over-cooked everything from cans. But she was an incredible seamstress and made a lot of our school costumes from scratch using sheets of crepe paper. Never used a pattern. Designed them and then did the drape, cut and stitch method, ala a couture house.

My sister once had to be Brazil in a school pageant and she made a complete Carmen Miranda outfit, skirt, blouse with ruffled sleeves and the headdress all out of crepe paper. No pattern.

Ian, I heard (don't remember where) that they have a 5k (walk or run) on Castaway Cay. You get a certificate for completing it. It also said if you particiapte you are the first to be allowed on the island. Do any of y'all know if this is true?
thanks,
Kim

Someone else mentioned this, and I thought it was a 5K run. I also didn't know that they let you start earlier. I don't know anything about it because I had thought besides being running, it would interfere with our day.

IF I could do this before the day starts, I'd be extremely interested.

They are allocating the private dining room in Palo today....so keep checking for brunch and dinner reservations!

Whew! I've got two loads of laundry folded and packed with the last load in the dryer now. One blouse has to be hand washed, but I need more Woolite. It's still way too much stuff.

I'm going to have to make a list and take only what is necessary. I always bring things that I don't wear, even after I try to eliminate some things.

At least I was productive today. Now I'm exhausted and will need a nap...haha.:lmao:
Whew - you wore me out just reading this! :rotfl: My work gal pal and I headed over to Kierland Anthropology and guess what? I found some new tops on sail (yes I meant to say that)!!!!! Flirty little things that will just make me POP!

:rolleyes1:eek: And I thought I was passionate about my shows!

Here you go! :wizard:pixiedust:

I resemble that remark!

Actually, I will be taking over pet sitting at Peg's when I return from the cruise, so they'll have a few days with Aunt Jackie before mom and dad get home. :thumbsup2

.

Just teasing you ... and THANK God you'll be there before we get home, I can just hear Hope now... crying and squealing...:confused3

I really don't quite know how to interpret this.

If I press the refresh button every 5 seconds, how long before my hand spasms in the shape of a (non Mickey) mouse?

OK, I couldn't resist.!

Went to the Jelly Belly Factory today for a tour. Came back with a small bag of Jelly Belly beans in various shades of lime green. One of which is Margarita flavored. I plan to bring them to the Dis meet to share. A little taste of California.

Also went to the Anheiser Busch factory tour as it was just around the corner, but that wasn't as much fun as Jelly Belly, even with free beer samples! :drinking1

-Kay

p.s. I was good. I drank non alcoholic stuff as I had a hour and half drive home. Ate lots of jelly belly beans though. :dance3:

Kay I want to go on factory tours with you. You think maybe there's a Grey Goose distillery next to Little Debbie's joint?

Sitting in a room in the Comfort Inn, in Bolivar, MO, here for business and not to take the waters.

I just looked at my desktop DVC countdown and it says there are 14 days until I and the intrepid little band I'm travelling with arrive in WDW, for a full frontal beach head attack Dole Whips.

For some reason, today's countdown increased my sense of urgency.

This coming weekend is going to be the festival of electronics at Eastwood Manor. I need to start collecting and staging all the gadgets.

I keep thinking of this weekend as my last full weekend, because next weekend, the one before we actually depart, I have to get my friend who is dog sitting, ready and prepped. He's moving in on Wednesday the 2nd, so he can go through one full morning with the dogs before we leave.

He's a bit nervous about the whole thing, and wants to be throughly prepared, so I need to take quite a bit of time doing that.

Anyone else have pets, and what are you doing with them?

In the past we have boarded them, but at $95 a night when we're away for 15 nights, is a bit costly. And that's WITH a multiple dog discount! Somehow $1,425 is just a bit much to part with for boarding.

I just saw that WDW is having an annual pass holder special. I can book the Pop Century for $69 a night. Maybe I should have gotten the dogs a room at the Pop Century since that would only cost $1,035 for the length of stay.

I'm very grateful that this friend is going to stay with them. Partly because he's a very gentle soul and was very attached to his little dog who he had for 17 years. We had not had a good experience with dog sitters. One friend (no longer a friend) who we paid to stay with them while we were on the Panama Canal cruise was not very good to them.

We heard from our upstairs neighbors/tenant who have two dogs of their own, that he had mistreated them.

Our best ever dog sister can't do this time. She's proving to just be greedy and selfish by going on this cruise with us, rather than allowing my to fly her to Chicago to take care of Tallulah and Truman. When we came back from vacation they enjoyed being with her so much, they really couldn't have cared less that we were home.

I sometimes wonder where people's priorities are.

So, what are you folks doing with your pets during the cruise?

We have 2 miniature long-haired dachshunds, Katie and Allie--they were littermates. They are going to be 11 years old in a couple of days, but don't act like it at all. I wish SO MUCH that we had someone to come stay at home with them, but we lost our sitter when she selfishly decided to have children of the 2 legged variety. We have taken our girls to a B & B Kennel for many years, and are happy with the people- fortunately our girls love everyone, so they get lots of attention.:goodvibes We get an excellant rate of 36.00/day because they stay together. They seem happy when they go, and are well cared for.
Our problem is that Katie has developed some kind of lung problems and get pneumonia or some kind of consolidation in her lungs 3 or 4 times a year and gets VERY sick VERY quickly. She is on antibiotics year round, so when she gets sick, it is harder to treat her, and when you have an infection, it is a little risky to give her prednisone, because it can make an infection worse. She is so pitiful when she gets sick. We know her so well, we can jump on it and get treatment immed. She also has problems with her calcium, but that is controlled. When she is well, she is playful and does great-just the few times a year she is sick. She is a sweet girl. Allie is just the perfect pet, so far.:goodvibes
I am very concerned about leaving them for 3 weeks, but we have talked to the owner who assures us she will e-mail and send pictures, and that any animal who stays with them for an extended time, gets a daily check from head to tail. They are very familiar with her meds. The kennel always gets very high ratings and is recommended by our vet. Both girls will get a visit to the vet before we go just to address any problems starting up.
Sorry this is so long, but it hit a very worried spot. I know we have to live our life, but I will be worried about how my girls are doing.:sad2: I'll try not to go on like this anymore.:sad1: I will try to be happy on the cruise. Vicki

Don't know about Grey Goose, but there is a Hanger One Vodka about an hour from here (makes a change from all the wineries!) I think there is also a sake tasting place somewhere around.

I understand completely. It's great that you have a kennel you trust that is also so reasonable. Don't get me wrong, the kennel we use is excellent, and their prices are comparable to other places in the city. Just so expensive for a 2-week stay. Also I trust my friend who wi be taking care of them, otherwise they'd be going to the doggie spa for 2 weeks.
