September 12, 2009 ~ Last Call for Tortola! Thread 3

Hi everyone

I just booked this cruise for myself and my two children. I am new to posting on message boards, though I have read them before in the past for info.

But I couldn't resist joining in and posting with a group of people that will all be on this cruise!

I was going to wait and surprise my kids, but I realized that since I will be out of town up until the 11th, if I waited to tell them after I get home from that it would be "hey, we cruise tomorrow"

So I thought it would be fun to get ready together, so I told them today. They are ages 6 and 10 and are super excited.

This is going to be a wonderful (or should I say MAGICal) cruise!

Hi and welcome.:)

Ok I'm confused.. :confused3

Is the 3pm Promenade Lounge Dis Meet & Greet on Saturday the 12??
cause I could of sworn someone posted a HUGE post it was set for Sunday but the Champagne Girls is on Sunday right in Diversions?

:upsidedow

My understanding is:

Sat 3pm Dis meet in the promenade lounge
Sun 2pm Champagne Girls
Sun 9.30-10pm ish Shots Around the Ship (starting in the promenade lounge, maybe moving on, or may stay there)

Geezers of all ages - casual evening/night time get togethers in Cove Cafe (no specific times planned)

Please correct me if I am wrong - I don't want to be sitting alone in various lounges while you are all having fun somewhere else:laughing:

Michelle made a reference to where was the "squirrel" in this pic I posted on another thread last night. My pic was taken at Lake Louise on my trip to the Rockies this past week. Now I understand :rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2:

On the Westbound Panama Canal cruise in May 2008 several couples got together some evenings for cookies at Cove cafe and called themselves Geezers since they chose that over going to the clubs.

Early in our planning for this cruise it was suggested that we establish that as a scheduled event since many people on that cruise and also on this one wished they had known about it. The coffee making lady was pleased to have the group each night they came.

But, Geezers Of All Ages do not want their vacations to be "scheduled" they want to relax, so no one wants to set a time or volunteer as coordinator.

If you or anyone else has any suggestions and wants to chime in--have at it :)

The geezer thing sounds great to me - scheduled or not. I'm not really into clubs and I don't drink at all, so it looks just my speed.

Thanks for the info.

Just phoned DCL and they have the following movies listed as being shown on our cruise.

Bolt 3D
Confessions of a Shopaholic
Race to Witch Mountain
Hannah Montana the Movie
Disneynature: Earth
Up 3D
The Proposal
G-Force 3D
Ponyo

ok - sounds great - we will be there - had to pay in one shot on the day of booking since it was last minute - so it's a done deal

I looked at the activity list and the cove cafe meetings sound great, but there is no coordinator listed - so I'll just stay posted for that.
And the walking sounds great too - so now i just have to get "qualified" to PM the coordinator for that one. ;)

I was originally supposed to be in charge of the geezer meet but haven't been on the thread regularly. DH and I love the adult entertainment in Rockin Bar D after late dinner so that is where we head. I would suggest having an impromptu meet every evening after late dinner and whoever wants to come later after the show can join in. If no one is there it really doesn't matter since we won't have traveled far to get there. Cove Cafe is our favorite place to relax any time of day, especially the comfy chairs outside.

Welcome to the newbies!

:thanks: Kay for posting this. I was going to call DCL today to check on the movies but you've already done it for me. :flower3: There are several movies I'm sure someone in my family will see while onboard the Magic. The only one on the list that I've seen is Up 3D which is wonderful. Looking forward to seeing The Proposal and Earth.

You are welcome!

I have been waiting to find out what was on as the kids and I wanted to see Up and G-Force. Didn't want to spend $$ on going to the movies when we could see them for free! May also check out The Proposal.

Ponyo is on my "I am not sure about" list. There is a lot of hype about the movie / Disney involvement with it, but I am not convinced on that one.

Disney Earth is stunning, but if you have seen the BBC's Planet Earth series, you have basically seen the movie.

I know all of us will watch G-Force as none of us has seen it. My husband watched Bolt On Demand through our cable carrier Comcast but neither Kellie nor I have seen it. Seeing it in 3D should be fun!. Kellie I'm sure will want to see Ponyo and I did watch Planet Earth but I think I'll still enjoy seeing Earth. :flower3:

Now I get seasick real easy. What do you guys recommend to help that.I heard peppermints work.

.
Somebody said green apples.
,

Green apples, ginger, ginger ale are natural remedies. I always take a Bonine the morining of the cruise, as crossing the Gulf Stream that evening affects me a bit. I'll be sure to bring enough with me for every day however. Bonine doesn't make me drowsy like dramamine can.

Yep, this is correct! :thumbsup2 It's possible one of my post about the DIS meet may have said Sunday in error...but I think somebody would have jumped on that! :rolleyes1

Deb will be (has already been?) in contact with DCL about the time and location for Champagne Girls. This is what we are requesting, but they will verify what's available and Deb will let us know if it is different. EVERYONE PLEASE be sure she has you on her list so you get notified if there is a change.

Geezers will be hanging out in Cove Cafe most any night, just pop in and see who's around.

I've only seen Shopaholic and The Proposal, glad to see I'll have some movie choices. Definately want to see Up ::yes::

I've been sleeping and reading for about the past 24 hours. I need to go out in a bit and pick up some supplies and think about what else I need to do for trip prep. So many things need to wait till next weekend, but I can do some FE related stuff today.

Well, time to decide if I'll take another nap before heading out! :rotfl:

went to the dollar store for a pop up hamper and potentially some pirate stuff...nothing!
anyone have any other ideas for cheap pirate stuff?

Ok thanks and I'm only 18 so I don't think the alcohol will be possible.

Ok thanks I'll check out the main board.I'm also thinking about trying those patches you put behind your ear.I hear they are really helpful.

Green apples really help if you're sick and you can find anything to eat. They won't do anything for the seasickness itself, trust me. You'll still need the patches or seasickness tablets.

Thanks Kay for doing this!!!! I've been wondering what would be showing.

There's definitely quite a few on our to see list. The Proposal, G-Force 3-D and Ponyo are ones we want to see that we haven't seen yet and we'd like to see Bolt 3-D and Up 3-D again.

Kay,

Thanks for doing this. I'd quite like to see Bolt 3D.

I looked on Rotten Tomatoes at some others. G-Force only got 29% fresh, whereas, and to my surprise, Ponyo got a staggering 93% fresh rating!

Now I wonder what movies will be playing on deck at night. We have had some great times laying out on deck for a late night movie.
