September 12, 2009 ~ Last Call for Tortola! Thread 3

Hi everyone!
Just wanted to check in and say what a wonderful (OK, Magical!) cruise we had! Thanks so much for all those amazing, creative FE gifts which were fab to receive...

And did I mention that we had the absolute best tablemates one could wish for??? Table 28 and 29, you know who you are!!! Thank you one and all for making our vacation so special... :cloud9: If we don't get to sail with you guys at some point in the future, I'm going to have a Disney meltdown!!!

Anyway, Richard is now immersed in the wicked world of WORK whilst I'm whiling away another week in Wilderness Lodge - poor man definitely got the short straw there... ;)

So bye for now and thanks once again...

you're welcome :lmao::lmao::lmao: I know it wasn't me, it was deb, john, cheri, kathe, sukie, ian, monica & crew...but I had to get some limelight again, no one at home laughs at me :sad1:

YES
the lights on the steps going from deck 9 to deck 10 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

very good one !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

strange how things just jump up at you at 4 am !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

gaRRy

Garry, I'm not going to ask what you were doing up there at 4am, but I congratulate you for figuring this out!!! Yes, only people who were up there when dark would have noticed them. There are orange looking ones on the walls of Topsiders on the buffet line. I'll post a picture when I sort all of my pictures out so you guys can get a visual.
Is it ok that my wife was frustrated yesterday because she was so overwhelmed with so much stuff to do around the house? It's like you build up to the cruise and after that, reality kinda hits you on the face. Especially, since I'm going to Virginia for work for the next 3 days... *sigh*

Hello everyone! We got back home safely and had a wonderful time. Our tables at dinner were a hoot and I don't think I've had that much fun in a long time.

We rebooked 2 dummy dates on the cruise and are now booked on a B2B the repo from LA to Vancouver and the cruise from Vancouver to Alaska. We're doing steerage again, but we always do.

The funny thing is that we are nearly in the same cabin. Actually, we swapped with Cheri (notsolittlemermaid) she's got the cabin we had (6011) for the 2 cruises and we have the one she had (6015)!

You know, I only got a tiny peek in those sideways cat 11's. How did you kids like them compared to the regular 11's?

.

Are you sure??? Not even behind your back or up a sleeve or something??? :lmao: :rotfl: :lmao:

And we are booked on the La to Vanc repo too!!! Can't manage the B2B  so are also booked on the last Alaska cruise of the season - it's a hard knock life...

I preferred the sideways cat 11. I understand the floorspace is the same, but it seemed to me that the layout was far better. Also the sideways cat 11 has the "trunk" and the regular one does not.

I think the layout feels roomier because the bed is off to the side, so you when you enter, you have the sitting area in front of you, the bed off to one side and the closet and bathroom off to the other. I also think that you recoup a bit of floor space by not having the tiny hallway, in a normal cat 11. Normally you enter, and there is a tiny hall with the bath to one side, the closet to the other, the sitting area ahead of you with the bed beyond that.

It just seemed like a more comfortable and less cramped layout.

I guess I was sold on it, because I made sure that I got it again.

How wonderful that we'll be on the same cruise for at least one leg of our journey. You know, there could be an opportunity to catch our floor show again.

I'm beginning to fret a bit. I've only got a little over 500 days to create a new look for us.

I'm counting on it! And of course Nan's One Woman Retrospective... ;)

You're right to fret - though I do have a suggestion. Maybe, as we're travelling to North, you could develop a Canadian theme. Mounties and/or lumberjack outfits spring to mind. I think Sukie would look fab as a Mountie and I know you could really work the logging lumberjack look - imagine a plaid dress suit...

Very spooky my dear. As soon as I saw the word 'Canadian' my mind sprung to something in plaid and the words, "lumberjack formal" came to mind.

I'm not quite sure what exactly 'lumberjack formal' would look like, but I've got a time to figure it out. Another concept that springs to mind is 'wilderness chic." Again, I don't know what 'wilderness chic" might be, but it has a nice ring to to.

Let's just lobby DCL for a Lumberjack Formal Night and have done with it!!! That sounds too much fun not to join in...

I was thinking of dressing Richard and myself in outfits that celebrated The Carpenters (seeing as how we've been outed as incestuous pop partners) but now I'm leaning towards honouring a different dueting duo every night. My top 3 so far are Newton-John and Travolta, Parton and Rogers, Cher and Meatloaf... I haven't fine-tuned the details but like you say there's circa 500 days to go. Maybe we'll do requests..?

ok, sooooo... We looked up the wine we really liked on DCL that we paid $46 a bottle for.. and found out it sells for about $17 a bottle!!! :headache:

The server at Palo also told us it was rare and you have to ask the owner of the Vineyard permission to buy it.. but I guess they Lied cause I can order it right now online with no restrictions :sad2:

Love the idea of doing a tribute to a different duet each night. Lots of room for creativity, either by doing it literally, or an interpretive reimagining of the duet.

Not that I've managed to slog my way through the 17 billion photos that were taken on the cruise, but I thought I post one from our semi-formal night. I didn't think I could convince Mickey to pose so we would get the rear (so to speak) of the fezzes.

Glad everyone arrived home safe and sound. We've been home since Saturday night and I finally unpacked yesterday. I miss the ship a lot! No one to put my napkin on my lap, make the bed, serve us food etc.....lol. We really enjoyed our first cruise and I especially enjoyed meeting some of you while onboard the Magic. We booked a dummy date for Dec. 2010 but we want to do an Alaskan Cruise in June 2011 for our 30th Anniversary. Have to wait until the 28th to book so hopefully we'll be successful. Just have to figure out how to payoff the bill for this cruise and pay for the next one :rolleyes1 but I'm sure I'll find a way.

We're finallyback home after a wonderful cruise and 3 days at WDW. It was wonderful meeting you all. Wish we could have spent more time visiting with you. The green lanyards were a wonderful icebreaker and great conversation starter. Kept running into them all over the ship. DH and I are in "discussions" on whether to take another cruise (me) or buy more DVC points (him). I know we should have done it on ship for either of these but neither of us would give way. Oh well. I hope to see some of you on any future cruises we may take. My kids absolutely adored the kids clubs. My DD even made a friend (kimlovesdisney's DD) that she wants to keep in contact with.

On the next cruise I want to hang out with you guys in whatever lounge you guys were in. Sounds like you guys had fun, oh and I would do late seating for dinner too, it seemed like we missed out on some inboard activities because of our early sitting.

Hopefully we'll be seeing some of you on a future cruise:love:

Wow, you got caught in a tourist trap right on the ship! I'm not surprised that you payed a premium for the wine ($17 a bottle that you lug on yourself + corking fee = close to $46 and saves you hassle). BUT I would be pissed that the waiter lied, there is just no need for that.

Wanted to say....

THANK YOU!!

to all of you for making this a great cruise!! I loved spending time w/ my existing friends & loved meeting new ones. Starting with the meet that Nan & I were so fashionably late for :rotfl::lmao: (I would gladly NOT have had that ordeal to deal with!).

Some of us came home sick - hope everyone is feeling better now (I finally am - still a little nasley but have a strong voice).

Here's to cruising together again in the future :wizard:

we came home sick also. well, DS was sick starting on Tortola day, and he is finally just starting to come out of it. I was fighting it off for the last 3 days or so, but looks like it won. we can never manage to go on vacation without someone ending up ill!

Monica, loved meeting you & Nan too and running into you guys all over the ship. I definetly want to cruise again. Would love to do a reunion cruise with you all and this time maybe spend a little more time socializing.

We came back with colds too. Too much in and out of air conditioning I guess. Hope to see some f you on future cruises. And THANK YOU all for the wonderful FE gifts. My kids were really excited to see what was left every time we came back to the room. :lovestruc

Stacy, which wine is it?

Woody

We are Not wine drinkers at all so we had no idea what to pick. We told him we wanted something sweet so he brought out a bottle.. We tasted it and decided Yes, it was good.. So we were told that in order to buy it in the USA you have to ASK the owner for it and beg to get some. Maybe even bargain a trade for it..

Moscato Giallo Trentino

Guess we did fall Hook Line and Sinker.. who knew.. on a Disney Ship..
