September 11th - Thank you America !

I do not write as eloquently as the other posters, but in my heart I feel the same. I didn't personally know anyone who gave their life that day, but this is still a very hard day for me. My DH is a police officer, and his department got wristbands to wear (sort of like the old POW/MIA bands), each with the name of a missing police officer. It became a quest for us to find out about the name on his band, Donald Foreman with the PAPD. After searching the internet I found an email contact for the PAPD and sent a message. It ended up being forwarded to an officer who worked with Officer Foreman, who was able to tell us a bit about him. We sent a card and a letter to him and he forwarded it on to his wife. We received a lovely note from his wife, and an email from his stepdaughter. The interesting thing was how much he had in common with my DH, down to number of years of service, age, personality traits, etc. In fact, the only difference was skin color (and is that really a difference?). I am thinking of the Foreman family today, and praying for them and everyone else who lost loved ones on that day. God bless them all. We will never forget.

A beautiful and timely post. Captain. I will never forget!

Words cannot express what most of us feel in our hearts.
We will never forget the the sacrifices that were made that day.
With Gods blessing, generations that follow ours will never understand the pain we felt (and will continue to feel) on 9/11/01.
But it's hard to comprehend that some day this will just be another part of our countrys history that they will learn in school.
I guess now we know how our parents and grandparents felt when they faced a tragedy like Pearl Harbor.
What a lesson to learn. :(
God bless Tom.
Hug your fellow New Yorkers for me!

As I sat here and read each post on this thread my eyes began to fill with tears. I feel honored Tom, that you have written and responded back on this thread to others.
As a fellow upstate New Yorker, I too have a relative that belongs to the NYPD. I also volunteered awhile back for 8 years as a female firefighter in my town. I understand the brotherhood and bond that each firefighter has with one another. And the passion of Firefighting. As I am no longer a volunteer due to a conflict in work schedule I certainly do miss it for several different reasons. There is not a day that goes by that I don't remember what happened on 9/11. I continously say prayers for all the families that were affected that day and for those who risked their lives to save others. Everytime I hear a siren from an engine going by I get the chills and just say a prayer that everything will be alright for them. You are the WORLD'S BRAVEST!!! And I personally Thank you and your fellow Firefighters,Policemen and all others who protect us for what you all do everyday.

God Bless all of you and your Families

Thank-you to everyone, from the Hero's on the PA Flight to the Hero's that ran into the burning bulidings, and finally, to the hero's that ran the bulldozers to help clean up. Thank-you to the counselors that went and debriefed all the fireman and police needed the help. Thank you to everyone that helped the school kids understand the horrible events and yes..Thank you the the NYPD, NYFD, DCFD, and the DCFP! It was truly the most beautiful nation after one of the most horrid events!

Now does anyone else agree that this should be a national holiday?

To Tom,
I would like to say thank you for the kind words that you have said today. I am a fellew brother on the job in Seminole County, FL, and it touches me to see the response that one thread can create. I totally agree with you, those 343 that gave the ultimate sacrifice are truely heros, and those members of the NYPD and PAPD are as well. We are just men and women doing a job that we love more than anything.

I would like to say thank you to those that have responded with such kind words. It makes me proud to be an American to hear such support for those of us on the job.

God Bless America!

Dear Tom,
I was honored to read your post this evening. Thank you and all firefighters, policeman, paramedics for keeping us safe everyday. I came out of a school today and all the church bells were ringing at 8:46am I had my own moment of silence and cried.
I pray that you and your family are happy and healthy.
Love from Pittsburgh, God Bless America Julie

Dear delswife ,
Thank you for your kind words and please tell your son that he has our FULL support and thanks as well (as do all our men and women in the armed forces ). The sacrifices they make to protect and secure our freedom have been taken for granted for too long . Is he deployed overseas or is he home ?

GOD BLESS AMERICA !
GOD SPEED TO OUR MEN AND WOMEN IN UNIFORM

Firefighter Tom Maloney - LADDER COMPANY 61 - BRONX , N.Y.

You will never know how much this will mean to him. He joined the military because of 9/11. He signed up when he was 17. I was crying so hard when I signed the permission papers, but he wanted and needed to do this. When the nightmare was unfolding on the news, he kept saying "I have to do something"
There was a drawing of the firemen reaching up from the rubble with the american flag, and handing to the soliders. Above it, it read "We will take it from here." Thats my son. I have never been prouder of him. He has a 4 foot photograph of the firemen raising the flag, and he reminds me, he is there for them. He has your back, beacuse you have always had his. For now he is still here, but tells me he is ready, when he is needed.
Take care of yourself and know you and all the others are in our thoughts and prayers.
Love and peace.

We will never forget. This is such a wonderful thread. It has me choked up, but we need to remember.

Thank you Tom for your wonderful words. Thank YOU for doing your job. Communities across the US depend on people like you and we are very grateful for your service and committement. The dedication that our community servicepeople and military show is truly inspirational. A BIG THANK YOU to you all!

God Bless.
