Hello i am new here and I have some questions about camping in FL. First of all has anyone tent camped in FL in Spetember before? Is that a good time to go? And also my main concern is trying to protect us from the one word that tent campers hate "RAIN" i have seen pictures on hgere that people have put canopies over there tenst but i am on tight budget adn I am trying to figure out the cheapest weay to build my own canopy. ANybody has any ideas it would be greatly appreciated. ALso How may tents can you fit on a tent site? WSe have 6 people going with us and just trying to get an idea. Thnak agoan and probably many more wuestions to come:confused3

I'm not a tent camper, so I can't really address your questions, only that we were there the 27th of September, and the weather was quite lovely. Although, I've read it can still be pretty warm.
Other than that, I just wanted to say welcome to the camping forum.

:welcome:

Someone on this board has been told two tents maximum on a site, or 1 Camper and 1 tent. However, I have had 3 tents set up on a site for 2 weeks and not one word was said to me.

Waterproof your tent with some type of spray sealant such as Scotch Guard, get a ground cloth for underneath your tent, and a ground cloth for inside your tent. I used 6 mil roll plastic cut to fit.

To me a shelter besides your tent is worth it's weight in gold. If you don't have one and it is raining, you don't want to be stuck in your tent.

Welcome to the Disboards!

If you are just in the planning stages of your trip, I would suggest that you look at maybe Nov-March for tent camping at the Fort. It is still hurricane season in September, and it is still very hot and humid.

If it has to be September, make sure to bring a fan, and possibly a window air conditioner. It does not cool off much (if at all) at night in September, and it will not be pleasant trying to sleep without something to cool you off.

First week of October was beautiful, but we still did have downpours every day. We tent camped, without a tarp overtop, just our tent and rainfly - ground cover and inside floor cover (plastic sheet) and stayed pretty dry - we Scotchgarded ahead of time, ran our fan at night, and had no problem despite the rain every day. I was afraid as we were in the parks and it was pouring, that we would come "home" to a giant mess at night, but it never happened. I know in September it can still get pretty hot and humid so be prepared for that.
