We are planning a trip next year. We enjoyed both Halloween and Christmas time in Disney so we are looking at those two times again. For Halloween we were there in October, Christmas in early December so we sort of know what to expect for crowds and weather(although both can change). We were thinking more about Halloween but heard about Star Wars land opening next year and they say Fall. We aren't sure if we should take the risk of going right around when that opens, or just go in December and plan a Halloween trip another year. We don't have much interest in Star Wars land, but would probably go to HS for Toy Story land and Rock n'Roller Coaster so we would still see the crowds if it opens around when we go and are also worried about how much it would impact the crowds at the other parks if it's open.

Anyway, I just wanted some opinions and if you say do Halloween(don't worry about the star wars land), should we stick to October or try September out?

Thanks.

We've gone at least six different years in September(usually the last week). It was always so hot and extremely humid. With the daily storms and the rules about lightening strikes, we only got to use the pool two out of seven days during our last trip. It was soooo hot. Be prepared. Friends have told us that the weather improves in October. Enjoy it whenever you decide to go.

If you really don’t care about Star Wars I would probably go with October.

I think it is going to be crazy when the new land opens.

I would choose December because it's much cooler and I love Christmas.

However, we went the last week of September on our last trip, and will then go again on our next on in 2019. But that's because our kids have a fall break during that week. On our trip, we got to the park around 9:00, had an ADR at lunch (which helped cool us off), went on a few more rides, and then left the park around 2:00 or 3:00. During the hottest parts of the day I planned inside attractions so we were going from AC to AC. We were staying at AKL that trip, so, by the time we got to the hotel, watched the animals, swam, and did a few activities, it was dinner time. Then we'd watch the animals some more and go to bed at 8:00 (because our kids were young). On our next trip I am hoping we will do a similar plan but stay closer to the parks and go back at night. And we'll just plan to sweat, bring fans, drink water, etc. We also live in TX and are used to the heat, so I'm sure that helps.

I'm worried about how crazy it will be when the new land opens too. Like I said we won't be at HS much, but i'm sure it will impact the crowds everywhere. That's why i'm wondering if we should push the trip out two months until December next year, it will still be busy for the new land, but it won't be right as it opens. We really wanted to do Halloween and Food and Wine again next year. Our last trip was during Christmas so we wanted to change it up, but are worried both Sept/Oct will be crazy since they could be opening the new land during that time. If we stay away from HS do you think we'd still be able to tell it's a lot more crowded?

Thanks for all the replies guys!

They are saying late fall for Star Wars opening, which is predicted to be around end of November or early December. So if you go in December it will be just after Star Wars opened, while in October it will be before so HS shouldn't be so crowded.

Oh really? I only heard fall so figured that would be September or October. If it's November or December that would be perfect we could miss it. I really hope that's the case. I will keep my fingers crossed. Thanks for mentioning this, I haven't heard about that, just "Fall" which can be a lot of dates lol. Thanks.

We are going in early September only because my kid's sport commitments. Even though Touring plans has a 1/10 for 7 of 9 days we are going I would much rather go in October if we had the choice. Probably the last week of October. Less oppressive heat and half decent crowds.

You might also benefit from people holding off going until Star Wars opens.

I agree with this. You are more likely for avoid Star Wars in Oct than December. Once it opens I don’t think two months is going to make much of a difference on crowds. From what I have heard opening weekend is more likely to be Dec than Oct but that is speculation at this point.

i know they said late fall for SWL but when do you think they will have an actual date? i forgot how far out we knew toy story land was opening on Jun30th. we also plan on going next Fall most likely in Oct

I just went online to book a hotel at WDW the weekend of OCT 11-14 2019 and nearly every hotel is sold out, or outrageously priced. Then I looked at the nearby hotels and they are sold out as well. Could this be insider intelligence that this is the unofficial opening of Star Wars Land? No other weekends are booked like that one. It is very very unusual. That time of year is typically a slow time (which is why we go then, since we are FL residents).

Columbus Day is late next year - Monday, October 14th. Maybe that's why that weekend is so booked?
