Sept airfare seems high?

I have been looking for airfare threw anyone for our sept cruise. The prices are over 300 even with southwest. Any thoughts why sept is running so high this year? We just flew a few weeks ago 90/person cheaper. All I am thinking, that was spring break. Why so high for off season..

IMO...I think that Southwest is no longer a great option...years ago when they had "fixed price" fuel deal...they could afford to under-cut the big boys...NOW that deal has expired and they are paying the same price as others for their fuel...along with fewer direct flights I've not flown them in almost 3 years...I can get better price/times from Delta or United...and PRICE wins my business 95% of the time!

I bought my October SW flights to MCO the day they came out, and got great prices each way, even on a Saturday. They have gone up quite a bit since then. Your Sept rates may go down when they have a sale, but that is very hard to predict. Whether SW is a good option from your airport probably depends n the competition also.

Their last sale ended a few days ago. New one should be out either this week or next week. They're also very picky about what days of the week they discount to/from Florida.

I was going to start a thread asking about late August (8/26 or 8/27 to 9/2 or so -I'm flexible). The round trip prices - excluding bare bones Spirit - are over $400pp (BOS to MCO). I'm used to getting around $260rt. I know its 4 months out, but the prices are very high and haven't changed in the 2 months I've been watching. (I watch Southwest as well as the major airlines via google flights.)

My dates this year are 9/16-9/21, last year I went a week earlier, and the cost this year is about $90 more than last year. I booked with Southwest because I am using my reward points. But cost wise Southwest had the best price. I don't mind paying a bit more for the times I want. I like to get to Orlando early afternoon and leave in the late afternoon. I am hoping the cost will go down a bit more as it gets closer to September

We are finding airfare to almost anywhere we are looking is about 20-25% higher than the same time last year.
Time is my #1 factor, then price. Flying SW would mean leaving via Magical Express at 3:30 AM, no thanks. The leaves Delta as our only direct option. We have Allegiant, no thanks.

We are actually considering driving this October if the prices don't drop.

We should have booked our flight for September the day it came out but held out for a lower price. Wrong move. Southwest was the cheapest and even then it wasn't cheap. They have very few direct flights anymore from PHL. We booked with them because they were cheaper than American. I want to take a trip to Las Vegas and then on to Disneyland which we did last year but the air fare is just to high. We keep checking but it doesn't look like Disneyland is going to happen.

We are planning a trip from Sept 23 - Oct 8 from Vancouver Canada and airfare is atrocious this year. We usually pay around $360 CAD each and this year prices are averaging around $600 CAD. We are still holding out to see if they go down, but it's not seeming likely at this point. Looks like we are paying quite a bit more this year. Coupled with that, this is the first trip down that we have to buy tickets for both kids as DS is 4 now. o_O

Southwest is consistently lower than the others at my airport. I'll go with price most times as well. I'll pay slightly higher if there is a non-stop vs connection or maybe a better schedule.

After flying SW exclusively the past 2 1/2 years(minus one flight from an airport SW doesn't serve), I flew Delta in March, Delta last week, have a Delta flight scheduled for June, and if we fly, it will be Delta in October. Delta is beating SW in price, and in most cases, by over $100 per ticket. I was excited to see SW in Cincinnati, but outside of flying to MDW or BWI, the prices are steep.

I got 2 SW credit cards this year to qualify for a companion pass, so not only do I have over 100,000 miles, I can take someone almost free every time I fly SW until the end of 2018, so I will be going with them for all my domestic travel for a while! I love SW. I have always loved them for their ease of changing flights and using points to book, but now I love them more.

REALLY good prices right now, at least to/from Denver. I've got $258 RT flying in on the 1st and flying out on the 7th.

Use to be I could fly SW roundtrip from BWI to MCO for $250. or less. This year SW has been extremely high at the moment it would cost me almost $400. So I started checking around and know a lot of people do not like Spirit airline, but I got roundtrip for $200. with all the add on's. So going to give them a try this year.

I've noticed this for October as well. I take my extended family that lives in Indy to WDW every other year . The last 5 trips I've paid from $179 to $255 for their round trip tickets on SW/Airtran. This year it's looking at over $500 for Indy-MCO r/t. Southwest's afternoon non-stop return on the 22nd was $249 at 5am the day they opened the schedule. When I got to work ready to book it was $328. I waited a day to see what happens and only shows $404 anytime fare. I can't believe all wanna get away's are gone already. They'd rather fly Southwest....but as I pay for all the kids tickets...I'm a bit over my budget at the moment :badpc:

A bit off topic, but is there anyway to tell how full a Southwest flight actually is? Most airlines you can get a decent idea via a seat map. But as SW has no seat map...i used to assume low fares = not very full. But this year my IND-MCO flights showed virtually no wanna get a way fares at a reasonable price within a week of schedule release. I even tried calling and gently trying to get the info from the super nice agent, but she was having none of that :)
