We went to Key West in October 2003 with the Cruisetoberfest II crew and several of us did a scavenger hunt put on by someone on Key West. Most of us rented the little cars and had a blast looking for all the clues. This time, because we have 2 little ones now, we are probably going to do the Trolley tour (booked on our own) and DH wants to make sure that he goes to the top of the lighthouse after seeing your pictures. He wants to see the view. He also mention a couple of other things that he wanted to do, but I don't remember and he's working today.
Amy--
I'll be interested to learn more about what you are planning to do with your 2 little ones in Key West since we'll have two little ones with us as well and we've never been, so I definitely want to do some exploring! This will be our first cruise with the girls, as I was pregnant with my first DD on the last member cruise, so I'm in for quite an adventure I'm sure!!

Diana Lyn -

How old are your little ones again? Mine will be almost 4 and 16 months. I think that we are probably going to do the trolley tour so that we can get off at a few places to look around. When we went in 2003 and did the scavenger hunt, we saw a lot of places, but we only saw them for a brief moment before we were looking for the next clue. Maybe we can do some research and find some things to do that are family-friendly, even though Key West definitely isn't known for those types of activities.

There is going to be so much to do and decide on, I will probably forget all of it. Need help from others as we get closer. LOL
:earseek:

Never been to Key West, so looking forward to it.

Steve, did you know that they have a Margaritaville store at Universal Studios in Orlando? We always go there and eat a cheeseburger in paradise and pick up a few things from the store. They also have great margaritas, as you would expect!!

I have been checking into taking a side trip from Key West to Dry Tortugas island. There is a lighthouse and a fort, which was turned into a prison. Dr. Samuel Mudd, who treated John Wilkes Booth after he shot Pres Lincoln, was imprisoned there. They also have great snorkeling there. Anyway, I would love to go there, but don't know how long we're docked at KW. A trip to the island by boat would take too long, but a helicopter trip might just work. Does DCL let you know what time we arrive and depart KW before the cruise?

DH wants to see the Lighthouse and we're hoping to get a hold of a few friends who moved to Key West and take in some of the local sights.

You do have the ships schedule before you leave. DH and I did the boat trip to Dry Torgugas NP a few years ago, and you're right about the snorkeling and the history of the place is so interesting. Lots of birds nest on neighboring islands.

Good luck! A helicopter just may do it for you!

My favorite side trip for history is the Truman White House and for beauty it's Fort Zachary Taylor State Park. You can tour the fort, and there's a swimming beach. It's a nice beach, but small, and I think you do have to wear swimming shoes because I there's coral or maybe they are just rocks on the floor. CC it isn't, but there are also picnic benches in mangrove tree bunches, it's quite lovely. The walk to the park isn't long and it's sort of going through an industrial area, not particularly pretty, but we think the walk is worth it.

Bobbi :flower:

PS. DH says there are float plane excursions, he's not sure about helicopters.

Happy Sunday. Nice to see the Key West discussion take off. I was trying to think of something to get things going and that seemed to work.

Not sure what we are going to do this time. Mark had talked about doing the electric cars last time but we didn't have time (we had a vow renewal we had to get to).

alikat - what can you tell us about those cars?

Those cars are a blast. You can get either 2-seaters or 4-seaters and they run on a battery. We were able to use ours for several hours. I don't remember the cost, but I'll see if I can find out about it as soon as possible.

I'm off to a birthday party that my DD was invited to, so I'll check when I get back.

Amy

We have been in Key West twice. First time we rented bikes and rode around the island. Had a blast until I discovered my arms were quite sunburned! Second trip we went to Ernest Hemingway's home (he wasn't there :D ) then went to the lighthouse. I also enjoy shopping along the "main drag."

Yeah!!!!!!!!! 34 WEEKS!!!!!!!!!

Im very excited and I really havent told the boys yet!!

MrsMork....Sending PD your way and hope you can join us!

Hey, all you DVC member cruisers! Send in your photos. I keep checking the photo link, but there hasn't been any photos added for a long time. It's always exciting to see a new photo!

Thanks for the PSA Mona - you're right we don't have photos from everyone yet.

Mark and many others said they found the photos really helped in getting to know people before the cruise so come on and send them in.

One Major Request Please - Put Member Cruise In the Subject Line!

I'm also doing a page for our 5/27/06 group and don't want to get them put in the wrong gallery.

Thanks!

The little cars sound like fun and we probably will go to the lighthouse. Hoping we get to see the wonderful sunset we have heard about.

Have to admit we haven't put much thought into what we are wanting to do, since we have a cruise we are leaving on in 7 weeks. Since it's not a Disney cruise, I have had to do alot of research on a new ship and ports that we have never been to. It's been fun, but planning a Disney cruise is so much easier - I just check with Mark & Mary to get the scoop on what to do!!!!!!

I noticed some of you posted yesterday - am I the only one who couldn't get logged onto the Dis boards this weekend?

Gail

Gail - there was problems getting on the DIS over the weekend - something with the DNS or servers - computer jargon like that.

It's nice to be able to continue our planning here -

There were many times over the weekend where I couldn't get on. Guess I was just stubborn and kept trying. :D

Mary - were you able to get into the DVC Chat last night - both Robin and I couldn't get in - it's fixed for me today tho.

I will send a picture when and if I ever find one I like of John and myself.

for the person that asked about the castaway club:

when they made your reservation they should have asked if you have cruised before if you said yes, you should be all set

If you want to doublecheck, you can call member services, they can double check that you are tied to your castaway card #.

Mary - yes Mark and I were both able to get in chat last night. Doc was there. We missed you guys. It was a fairly low key chat - I think a number of people could not get in.

:wizard: Has the final itinerary for the Members Cruise been posted? We are scheduled for Key West, Castaway Cay and a day at sea. Is Nassau definitely on the agenda? What day?
