Sept. 26, 2009 Magic

Good morning, Crystal! Motivation? Think about it this way; each minute work is a minute closer to the cruise. :cheer2:

Wow Jacq...that is totally glass half full kind of comment. I love it though. Much better outlook than I had.

Good mornin' DISers,

First of all, VERY CUTE Pic of Bailey, How Adorable :lovestruc.

Well friends, I have been called for Jury Duty Sept 9/10th :scared1:. Very close to cruise. Thank You God it is early!

Have to go, big head trauma coming to our ER!

Agree...Bailey is adorable!!! And as for jury duty, can't you get out if it because hmmm...it would be difficult to find childcare for your daughter? I got DH out of jury duty this past January (because I had a surprise cruise planned and couldn't tell him), by writing that I work out of state and he is responsible for day time childcare x days per week bla bla bla. Anyway, they asked for a copy of our youngest child's birth certificate and they won't call him again until she is 12 years or older. Anyway, hope it's short lived for you.

Welcome to all newbies. Jump right in. And learn quickly, FAT CAT is :joker:

Sailing on the 26th with my family of three! Looking to meet some families that will also be cruising!
:welcome: Do you have kids that are traveling with you? How old?

I made my FE out of material from my old boxer shorts.

:scared1::rotfl:

We're ready to meet the Mouse!!! My parents just got back from WDW and got Bailey his first set of ears with his name on the back. Not to mention he got a whole Disney wardrobe.

Bailey is adorable! Love the ears!:earsboy:

Good morning everyone! It's such a great day. I got on that terrible scale but this morning it gave me a good number. 2 more pounds and I'll be at pre-pg weight!!! :cool1: Of course I want to lose a few more pounds and trying to get my stomach back to normal but I'm still so proud. Of course my main reason for losing is so I don't feel as bad when I gain 5 or so lbs on the cruise!!

Congratulations! I've lost almost 40 lbs since the beginning of the year. I am so worried :worried:that I'll be gaining some back on the cruise. Actually, I'm sure that I'll gain some back on the cruise...I love to eat and the food is so good! I need to make sure I work out extra hard before the cruise and then when I get back.:cheer2:

90+ cabins??? :confused3

I thought the same thing! I was like WHAT?!!! How did I miss that many people? Thank goodness it was a typo!!!!

Good morning, everyone!! Well, we met Ansley's Kindergarten teacher yesterday and we're very excited because Ansley is assigned to the teacher we were hoping for (I really can't believe our luck - - everyone wants this particular teacher because she's so amazing). YAY!! :yay: :woohoo:

However, apparently, our school district has changed its policy on absences to be even more strict, and, unfortunately, we aren't going to be able to pull her out of school on Friday so we can attend MNSSHP. :guilty: (We are going to be in enough hot water for pulling her out for 5 days for the cruise.) So, to everyone who we were supposed to meet at MNSSHP, I'm so sorry that we won't be there to party with you, but I know that you guys will be having a rockin' time anyway!! :cheer2:

Nah, more a kind of "I'm obsessed about my trip, so any answer I can turn around that way will come out of my mouth". :rolleyes1

Reading the first paragraph, I was thinking 'teacher that loves Disney', but apparently not. Such a shame you guys wont be able to do MNSSHP. :headache:

Well, I haven't yet broken *the news* to either her teacher or the school yet BUT I have decided on a plan of attack. Since I'm off Mondays and Tuesdays, I'm hoping that I can volunteer for the school and her teacher consistently for the next month or so before making the "BIG" announcement that we are taking her out for 5 days. I hope that if I do volunteer a lot, that the school and her teacher will see how seriously we take Ansley's education and not think ill of us for taking her out. I am literally shocked at how seriously our district takes absences. After missing these 5 days, Ansley cannot participate in any extra-curricular activities and we can be subject to fines. Crazy, right? :scared1:

Hmm, I can understand both sides of it (although not the punishing Ansley by no longer letting her participate). But than again, I live in a place that has to do mass checks and hand out serious fines because plane loads (serious; PLANE loads) of parents try to pull kids out of school days before a 2 or 6 weeks holiday starts.

I think your strategy sounds good. :thumbsup2 If you still have any doubt; when you break the news, offer to have Ansley do some kind of make up work. Heck, in kindergarten it should be a whole big deal if she talked to the class after getting back and explaining where the Caribbean are on the world map. ;)

YUP - I'm hoping that they will understand, but if they don't then I'm not losing sleep (much) over it. DH actually asked me last night if we wanted to cancel the cruise, and I think I must have given him the look of death in response. Our compromise was to not attend MNSSHP and just pull her out for 5 days. We will probably do some sort of scrapbook or something (naturally - LOLOLOLOL) for Ansley to bring to class when she gets back. If the school or her teacher holds a grudge, so be it. But, again, in a perfect world, her teacher is as much a Disney lover as I am, and she will be supportive. :thumbsup2

Crystal~~ You might want to find out what time they take attendance. At our school it's at 9:30 in the morning and if you leave after that you are considered present for the entire day!! We will be pulling our kids at about 10:00 on the 25th so that we can make a noon-ish flight and they will not be counted absent on Friday.

Here in Texas school funding is based on how many kids are at school each day at 'attendance time'. At $40.00 per kid, per day it adds up (or doesn't if there is a truancy problem).

I am not sure how long of a trip it is, but maybe you can pull here at the magic hour and head on down the road.

Grin, the "perfect husband" did a BAD BAD thing. Tell him yet that this mistake will have cost him the admiration he had on the DIS? :lmao::rotfl:

I was just going to say the same thing, Crystal. I read on the main board this is what some people do. Hopefully the teacher will understand that the cruise really will be an educational thing for your DD. Also, something else I read on the main board that people do is keep their children out of school until after the cruise and homeschool them for the first few weeks. Although, in your case, that would be quite a few weeks. Just thinking out load here to help you....

AngolaHeartsDisney Welcome!!!

Good Morning everyone! Just jumping on here this morning to see what I might have missed. Met with the florist at the church last night to make sure we had everything we want and need. Only made slight changes which saved me a few dollars. Only 3 weeks from tomorrow and then I can hopefully turn all my time and energy towards the cruise. Right now I cant even stop to think what I still need for the cruise. Usually by now I have it all wrote down in lists....packing list, to buy list, to do list....:rotfl:.....so I am hoping that I can get it all together in the 3 weeks between wedding and cruise!!

Have a great day....time to get to work....or at least act like it!!! :lmao:

Grin, daughters getting married sure is a very succesfull way of not getting too serious OCD too far out for cruising, I guess. ;)

:goodvibes I guess so, but now I will go from being stressed about wedding to being stressed about cruise!!!

I just checked the FE list on page 9 and the one on page 114. There are 39 cabins doing FE. The list on page 114 list 1 fish extender for cabin 7120 for a total of 38 FE, but if I understand, there will be 2 FE for cabin 7120 for a total of 39. The list on page 9 separates them for a total of 39. Please correct me if I am wrong Juli (Fire14).

OK...back to work I go......

So happy she got a great teacher! We have our meet-the-teacher next Friday, the 21st. So excited!

That sucks about the attendance policy though and that you have to miss MNSSHP. We're pulling DD out for 6 days. Actually, we are pulling her out on Thursday at noon b/c then she's not considered absent for that day. Then she'll miss Friday and the week after. We're spending a couple days at the Nick Hotel before the cruise.

I'm feeling bad cause I haven't been on here enough to keep up with everyone. I don't know if I can go back and read all those pages I've missed. It's good to see an active bunch though.

I do have a question about the FE. I told my wife about it and she made some cargo shorts with each pocket being for a different person in the fam and decorated it all disney like. Then I saw somewhere that it can't be more than 8 inches wide. The only reason I could find is that it would be wider than that section of the wall. I haven't measured the shorts, but I doubt it's only 8 or even 9 inches wide. Is this really a problem? In looking at the pictures I woudn't think it would be, but I don't know. Do you?

Thanks,
Adam

I have seen some FE that are wider than the 9 inches. It will just hang over a bit.

It's been a busy week in Lake Wobegon
  • Swamp boats have been replaced
  • Bailey got his first Mickey ears and needs a Disney themed Halloween Costume
  • Sonia has apparently been lured to the dark side by FatCat and has been posting drink recipes, bigferrell also joined the fun
  • There is a getting to know you questionnaire on FB
  • FatCat likes cake, specifically vanilla cake with raspberry goo. He doesn't like fresh water lobster (and for the record neither do I)
  • Intlmanofmystery showed up and then disappeared again
  • Hookedoncruises and FatCat have started their respective packing lists, lots of clothes for the former and liquor for the latter.
  • We welcomed CLB, AngolaheasrtsDisney and Julesharrison to our fine little group
  • kpadalik's DH lost his swim trunks (she is buying more)
  • Disney Sweetie's DD's wedding is coming along, no major snags so far
  • No FL rates, doesn't look promising
  • FatCat has a cool new dishwasher, he didn't like opening the old one with a screw driver
  • Kaleb is home from the hospital and doing well
  • FE's pics were posted, but not FatCat's. We will have to wait until we get to the ship see the button fly pouches!
  • Don't forget about the DIS ATV ride in St. Maarten
  • fourgonefishing and Fires Grumpy also like cake
  • We like Ansley's Kindergarten teacher, but found out that the district has gotten more strict about absences. So, they might have to skip MNSSHP.
